      The Avs2 series carbs are excellent. I agree with you. Before I LS swapped my 82 Gmc shortbed Squarebody. I bought a new avs2 1906 to put on the 355 5spd that was in it and Loved it. If I ever buy another carb it will be an ATM carb. Best on the market imo.

    Hey, Luke! WHAT?? What do you mean, no one cares about "the old '65 Galaxie!?" I CARE! I LOVE that car! I ad a '65 Hard Top. Man, do I miss it! My first car is one my Dad bought when I was 7 in '66. It was a '65 Country Sedan wagon (not the Squire). It had a 289 originally. Dropped in a '70 302 out of a friend's wrecked Mustang. When I was done, it looked VERY similar to the engine in your F100. Raced it weekly! Anyway, I WISH I had that wagon to this day! Hang onto that Galaxie! She's a beauty! Thanks for another AWESOME video and for letting me rant. God bless.

    15:00 A bit of advice regarding the shear pin on the flywheel: attain a half dozen or more of the actual shear pins and place them in the onboard toolbox along with the tools to facilitate the repair. Having grown up on a farm, I can't overstate how nice it is to have spares & tools at the ready when you need them! Especially so when you're on the acreage somewhere far from the house, the shop or the barn. I think someone else mentioned this previously but I will restate it. When it comes to shear pins, don't install some crappy substitute that doesn't really fit nor is an actual shear pin. Why? Because a crappy substitute more often than not will damage the mounting surfaces which only compounds the problem. Trust me when I say that the last thing you want to have to deal with is elongated or otherwise mangled bores or shafts where things such as a woodruff key or shear pins are installed. Proper repairs get expensive really quickly. Down time to facilitate those repairs can really burn you when it comes to getting things done on time such as a crop being harvested.

    You already know this but if you don’t want to totally trash that classic baler a guy is best to clean out a plug completely.
    If you don’t run the proper shear bolts it will prematurely were the hole in fly wheel and the shaft it bolts to. Newer baler have a replacement bushings in shaft side not sure about the older ones.

    My first truck was a '77 F-100 with the original 302/3otT combo. And I agree, a Windsor block in that huge engine bay does look relatively competitive with the likes of a hamster wheel. Nice when it's raining and you have to get some engine work done outdoors, though. Room on each fender deck for a small toolbox and a medium derriere at the same time, and room between the fender and block on each side to get an arm or a leg down in there without too much concern. Ah, memories. 😊

    • @possumwerx
      @possumwerx 3 місяці тому +5

      With my truck (300 I-6), I can literally stand on the concrete next to the engine - inside the engine bay! No, there isn't that much room to maneuver around but I can still do it. There's a lot of room under the hood of these trucks.

    Hey Luke, you need to find a tractor with a "live" pto or a tractor with a hand and foot clutch. When you come up on a large windrow, you can slip the hand clutch while letting the PTO run at full speed. We had Allis Chalmers D17 with hand clutches and and Oliver 77 with a "live" PTO. With a "live" PTO, you can push the clutch in and the PTO still drives. My dad kept that tractor around for just that feature. Love the channel!!!

    You are a lucky Dude Luke, in many ways. Yes broke shear pins on wet Clover. Dad always had the wrench and a bolt in the tractor box. We would grease it up and check the twine feeder. By the end of the day all you could hear was that constant pounding thump thump thump thump. My first out bailing I wore shorts, oh Dad asked if I wanted to do that, I said its gonna be hot. Ok Oh hell, My fore arms and thighs were shredded that night. Your wife is a hoot, Just like us, my Maggie don't want to be in my videos either. Thanks for sharing i miss that part of my growing up. Stacking hay notes: get a row of pallets so the bales don't sit on the barn dirt then stack them on edge with cut side up. That way the bales keep a better shape from walking on them and look a whole lot better to buyers and less likely to hook a toe under a string for a trip or break.

    That's the beauty of a Ford N tractor though! You buy a couple of them as lawn ornaments from various locals, replace the silly toilet with a real seat and get the things running. then you make an AG one and an industrial one, welding on all the things to make them...more acceptable for their tasks. great on a small acreage property for, well everything. Common parts and bone dead simple.

    It was almost 50 years ago, I was "misdiagnosed" with autism. Yes, I had the "classic" symptoms and persona. I failed in school, but it was because of a questionable school system at the time, and I didn't fare well socially. I did have some of those "Rainman" things going on. Teachers were baffled. Austism and Aspergers wasn't know much then, where I grew up. I couldn't add 2 plus 2, but could divide 3 by 3 numbers. I knew penny was one cent, but thought a candy bar costed 25 dollars, that kinda thing.
    I excelled 1000% in education, when there were no distractions of any sort. As years went by, I grew out of that weird part of my life. Went from some Special Ed F student to 3.8 GPA in college, courtesy of the military. I work in IT, electronics, computers, and am a hardcore gearhead.
    Weird how the mind works, eh?

      I bought a brand new 89 F150 2WD XLT Lariat for about $10k. Had a 300 six, 5-speed and 3.55 gears. Regular cab, long bed. It was a great truck, but I moved to SoCal for a spell and the 300 got pretty winded in the mountains. Only other problem was the paint wasn’t great. Ford had some factory adhesion problems. Nevertheless, those were some great years for Ford trucks.

      @@sombra6153small world, cause I also live in SoCal, in the (San Diego county) mountains. Mine also has 3.55 gears, it does ok up hill, my tires don't help that however 😅 Mine is a super cab short bed tho.
      And yes, the paint absolutely sucks. Been coming off the truck since day one! I'd say 70% of it is still there lol
      Where I live, in a town of about 1500 people, I not required to pass smog, so it has a straight pipe from the manifold to the cherry bomb cause California wants $1,400 for a catalytic converter 😮

      @@ThunderHead289As you were saying, those old Fords were great little tractors. Too bad they weren't good at anything. The transmissions are geared so weird. Never the right gear for what you're doing. And absolutely zero torque in high.

    • @possumwerx
      @possumwerx 3 місяці тому

      For the time period that they were manufactured... those tractors kicked ass! Especially when you compare them to what else was available to your average farmer. In order to be realistic and fair, you have to put them in the time period and match them up with what farmers used. Comparing them to tractors that are decades newer or to modern equipment is a serious miscarriage of justice. They were built to go slow and at a steady pace thus getting the job done.

    • @johndeerekid167
      @johndeerekid167 3 місяці тому

      @@possumwerx I'm sorry, but no. They were geared bad back then. That's why you can find hundreds of Ford N's still in amazing shape. They are all low hours because they didn't get used for real farming. Farmall, John Deere, and just about everyone else were running circles around Ford.

    With alfalfa, if you are not busting shear pins you are not baling. Your John Deere dealer will be happy to sell you a box of what you need for next time. Generally, when you bust a shear pin the first thing you do is replace the pin, and then clean the entire chamber out by backing up the feed mechanism and cleaning out the "slug" of hay that had broken the shear pin. Then you can start the baler and gradually feed the slug of hay into the baler. Then you get back on the tractor, reminding yourself to slow down and, if you have "live" PTO, pause the forward motion of the tractor as you approach a big quantity in the windrow so you can slowly feed it in. A good windrow operator will indeed try to even out the windrow so that you don't get the big quantity of hay that can shear a pin, but due to the vagaries of soil, weather, and edible legumes this is not always possible. You are learning, Luke, my friend, you are getting there.
