Great episode, it was very nice to get an overview of the entire series in one go. I really like the first edition of Defenders and wouldn't want to trade my first edition Meeple Source meeples for the second edition itemeeples :-)
Morten Monrad Pedersen The itemeeples are far cuter. But yes, sometimes you want a nice, solid hefty meeple for your tactile pleasure. The game play is far, far better in 2nd ed. Your loss :).
@@ShelfStories Yeah, to be honest I have been eyeing the 2nd edition multiple times :-) but those Itemeeples don't look appealing to me. I know that shouldn't mean anything, but it does to me in this case for some weird reason.
Morten Monrad Pedersen in your defense, how many heavy Euros have itemeeples? Detracts from the core elegance of gameplay. Good thing I don’t play the Tiny Epics for their elegance!
I thought zombies was one of their more solid solos. It feels it was made to be soloed with multiplayer, having a zombie player, only adds a level of intelligence to determining what card each player gets. But not much of a difference from playing solo. I loved this game and played with my 12 year old and my 7 year old both grasp it good.
Scott Almes is a really fantastic mechanical designer to the point where the mechanics often outshine the theme. That's a negative for a lot of people but I think the result is very clean, satisfying games with a quick playtime. Most of them don't blow you away (though Galaxies + Beyond the Black did for me but my partner is ALWAYS down to play this one) but they're rarely ever worse than decent (it says a lot that you were both saying positive things by 7). I agree that Mechs is at the bottom and the only one I consider bad. I don't know if either of you played Warp's Edge but it's a solo-only game by Almes that's easily one of his best solo experiences since unlike the Epic games it's not designed to be a multiplayer game first. Would love to hear what you think of Pirates since the response to the solo game has been mixed depending on how well people grasp the rondel and don't mind controlling the AI. I think Dungeons is shaping up to be killer both solo and multi.
Ooh, Tiny Epic Quest expansion, what a great idea... Maybe they can, as Steve commented, do something with the magic spells that would provide you some dice mitigation power and then you can go up again some mini-boss or boss monsters... Come on Tiny Epic! We don't need new versions of older games. Just some mini expansions tomround out the rough edges of each game (Beyond the Black was a great idea, Quest needs some love)
I bet any TEQ xpac would work like the Monsters expansion for Roll Player, where it adds a monster at the end. Would probably work just as well here. They expanded the first three Tiny Epics. I bet the plan was for them to expand every title, but then some sales marker told them to do otherwise. If they do expand one, though, it should probably be Quest.
@@ShelfStories Agreed! And I really like the idea of a Monsters and Minions style expansion. Maybe I can create some boss monster cards in the style where reaching certain magic levels helps you divine some of the weaknesses to the boss. Hmmm... does it work that they would be vulnerable to shovels or the lantern or would it be that certain levels on the goblin, quest and magic track would have some effect?
Erik Jordheim would be easy enough to make some itemeeples for the board, some for a boss, like Defenders. We should probably not go too far in our imaginings though. Will make us want something that might not happen :p
Tiny epic dinosaurs was my last to get because the colors looked like Barney. But then got it and liked it a lot. Its better with two to three than the solo, which can be brutal. But played it and got me into like dinosaur island and into looking to buy dinogenics. I did not though I would like dinosaur themed games but this did for me. Low in my list is mechs but still play it quite a bit. I haven’t played western due the whole poker thing. I don’t get poker so that turns me out of it.
I've been backing the TE series since the beginning. I couldn't bring myself to buy TE Defenders a second time after the first time. Everyone says it is better but i already wasted the money.
I think it's better, but doesn't really change the basic core game. Either you like that game and you want a better one, or you don't and you can safely pass on both.
Question what bigger games I can get similar to TE defenders, galaxies, quest, tactics and zombies? I’m fairly new to the hobby and those are my best liked games of the TE series. Oh and a better mech battle game
@@ShelfStories I mostly play solo so your list would be very valuable. Ima solo board and rpg gamer so it would be enlightening. Loving mage knight thoug.
The small size and how much game they include was my selling point. I have this thing about small items. The first one I played was zombies, I liked it. I felt it. The cards can become overwhelming around the map but nothing major. Quest I played with three played and solo. Like it but then I like dungeon crawlers. Down is that dungeons don change and there is no real combat in the dungeons which is not fun. May be perils tokens and mini boss and enemies tokens you can draw will make the dungeon more changeable and versatile. Quest with three players is fun and competitive. All trying to get those flags and kill each others. It can become vindictive, like “ah killed my wizard, screw this imma gonna get you” type of feeling.

“Why does western MEAN poker?”
Haha, I’ve always wondered that too!
Lmao is movies. Western movies always have someone playing cards at some point. That’s like James Bond equals casinos.

Hey, would really help viewers to include a time-stamp per game discussion (for bundles like TE and Pandemic before, at least). Thanks
C'era Una Volta you got it

Can you make, in your opinion, 20 games a beginner in the hobby solo player should have. I value your opinion.
That might make a good list at some point. I fear that my tastes are quite narrow - mostly coop and solo - so i might not make it to 20 :)

You didn't do TE Pirates PnP? 😉
Eager beaver, I am not ;).
