@PeekaPeep I gotta tellya.. Atreyu got no respect... in another alternate ending, Atreyu arrives at Fantasia, meets the Childlike Empress and says "Hey baby, how about some super sex?" And the Childlike Empress replies "OK, here's a bowl of soup!" NO respect at all!
Atreyu: I just barely got away from the nothing! Princess:You brought him with you... Atreyu: BUT I DIDN.... Princess: Yes you did! Baston: But thats impossible! Princess:....No... LMAO!
@leonelegender Well that is actually the ending of this part of the book - Bastian wishes himself to be in Phantasia and when he appears their after blowing out the candle there is basically no more Phantasia and he has to play "god" after giving the empress a new name (moon child). And that is were the book gets interesting and becomes a novel about growing up life and death! Buzt probably the ending of the first part of the book was too... "ambitious" to the american market.
It's almost like this alternate version of the Childlike Empress is from an Anti-Fantasia....with some slightly psycopathic tendencies. Her only desire in this universe is to see how much crap she could put Atreyu through while HELPING the Nothing destroy her kingdom. Sick... (but funny)
Given the canon logic that this world is created from the innocent imaginations of children....is there an alternate book and dark Fantasia from the dark fantasies and jaded realities that run parallel to Fantasia, by adults and other sick people? Makes ya think does it?
empress-"our world will disappear... and so will I..." Atreyu-"FOH WUT?" empress- *nothing face* Atreyu-"My horse died" Empress-*sarcastic tone* - "of course" - *smiles in creepy way* man she is so creepy in this montage
Well it is a great book and not really made for children - But with the exception of the death of the horse the movie(s) really do not cover the dark aspects of the book very much like Ygramul, Perelin the night forest, Graograman or Xaide getting squashed by her own guards...
@KyndyllHime Thought the same thing. I mean, let's face it, he WAS the real hero of the story. He should have gotten the princess/empress/whatever in the end.
"Falkor," Atreyu asked, "do you suppose the Childlike Empress cares what becomes of Bastian?" "Maybe not," said Falkor. "She draws no distinctions." "Then," said Atreyu, "she is really a. . ." "Don't say it," Falkor broke in. "I know what you mean, but don't say it."
6Jossiel6 I remember seeing this when I was 4 years old and I was so confused about how the Childlike Empress didn’t express emotions like other children I knew, until the last minute scenes. Then the 4th wall breaks and meta-4th wall breaks went completely against what my parents taught me about the veil between real, and fictional stories. To understand this piece of art, story, film, you have to meta-understand and I just couldn’t at age 4. I found her a bit creepy with the forced calm, and her hair slicked back on her scalp. Never saw a girl dressed like that before and it weirded me out. So yeah I found her creepy, but I had to admit it was dang good acting.
Love how the music clips out at points... Just makes the deadpan humor all the better! LOL
This must be the video game version where you make the wrong decision.
My horse died! Of course...
actually tis is somewhat according to the book, where the empress tell atreyu that his quest and suffering was necesary to bring bastian along

I thought this alternate ending was for real going into it. Now, I can't stop laughing.

So true. I read it at the age of 20 and literaly fell in love with it. And yes, it's better to read it as an adult since it's kind of a complex story.
"That was the end of Fantasia..." The End! LOL I loved it!!
How could you lie about this?
this is what you want, the end, fine.
Well, seemed a bit creepy to me in the original too..

To be fair, the second movie was the 2nd half of the novel. It was just a lousy adaptation. Now 3, that was an abomination.
