Once he was nearly completely deaf, Beethoven used a metal plate to “hear” the vibrations of the keyboard. One end would be attached to the frame of the instrument and one end would be in his mouth, which he bit down on. It worked like those “singing” toothbrushes for kids which allow you to “hear” the music through your teeth when you press down. Same idea. Given his perfect pitch, it probably wasn’t much of a jump for his brain to associate distinct vibrations with distinct notes or chords. Now, would he have been able to hear exactly what was happening in dense textures such as the Moonlight Sonata? My guess would be a solid ‘no’, but during the composing stage he could at least cobble it together piece by piece. His genius mind and incredible inner ear would do the rest as he strung it out into a full composition, allowing him to score even for entire orchestras, let alone the piano. (Also, Moonlight was written in his Middle Period, years before he was almost completely deaf!) Great video! Got a chuckle out of me.

      1. It's not called a "piano song creator", he was a composer
      2. He didn't just lose his hearing one day, but gradually lost his ability to hear. In his early twenties, when he wrote this piece, his hearing loss was in its early stages so he would actually have been able to hear what he was playing
