Hey Matt, we're cave divers and would love to take a look...how can we coordinate?
Half the comments are requesting you so don't worry, it will happen.
Big fan, matt this are your guys!
@@Ammoniummetavanadate I don’t know about that. Matt mentioned they have cave divers coming in so I guess he found other people to come check it out. I’m excited to see what’s underwater and what’s beyond the places that Matt and team have explored.
Amazing
@@DIVETALKWe will definitely push past first rope. Still just an ear dipper. But I'm wondering how much cave can be dry caved.
As a former hazmat tech who did multiple confined space entries, I'm very glad you guys didn't continue to push your luck. Disturbing sediment can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as H2S which is a highly deadly gas. Oxygen levels can also drop when entering different parts of a cavern and you'll have zero notice as hypoxia sets in. When we did confined space entries we always did so with a multigas meter with a PID to measure oxygen levels, VOCs, explosive levels, and various other compounds depending on the environment. We also always entered with an escape air pack and mask to give us 5 mins of fresh air to breath in case of an emergency. We also had an SCBA on standby for rescue if need be.
This is how Matt needs to do it.
Badass

These cave episodes really run my emotions thru a ringer. Extreme anxiety and curiosity all at once probably isn't good for my blood pressure.
Hey Matt,
Next time going in the cave bring a marker or some reflective tape and mark your way like in case no light or low light still it will be easy to navigate back.
If his lights stop working there won't be anything to reflect off the tape, snap lights run out and illuminous stuff needs light to charge. The safest option is have back up lights and a proper Caving guide line, properly tied and secured.
Chalk or something to mark the way
@@IrbyOCDcan’t see chalk in pitch black
Just run wires to install permanent lighting.
@graememckay9972 glow sticks don't run out in 20 minutes though and a bit of reflective tape would be ideal.

unlike some divers? Which divers dont put safety first? Just curious since DiveTalk are the only divers on youtube i realy know of. Are there bad divers on youtube???
@@georgeforeman1097 Adventures with purpose have done some sketchy stuff multiple times but have learned a lot and become more professional about their dives. Their channel has at least 3 videos of them almost drowning in caves due to rising water levels and they have no dive equipment in any one of them. Those are just two I can think of off the top of my head at 5 am xD. Plenty of examples to look at if you do some deep searches on UA-cam!

I love that all these channels I started watching separately several years ago are all coming together... it’s so awesome to watch and view in real-time with these colabs over the years
So many have already mentioned concerns about air quality. As a CSE expert in the sewer industry I can’t agree more. These shenanigans are taken much too lightly. Stirring up silt will release trapped gases that will quickly displace O2. Once that happens you have seconds to evac before going dark. Sewer workers have died of this in an open to the sky chamber. I advise more caution.

Hopefully y’all can do water tests and air tests just to appease the inquiring minds. When y’all open we are coming. Not for cave diving but for the rest of the place.
So good to see you and Meridith together in this one. I have missed her and the interaction between the two of you. Great episode.
Mere has a totally infectious laugh it’s funny. I just love the way y’all interact it’s great.
Glad you're good bro! The guys at Dive Talk (certified cave divers) would shred you for all of the mistakes you guys are making. When I watch Dive Talk, Mr. Ballen or Scarey Interest, it's how many extremely experienced divers that die every year cave diving! I've taken alot of unnecessary risk in my life but cave diving will never be one of them! It's just too dangerous! I never want to end up on one of these channels as a cautionary tale lol! The Cave Diving accidents get the most views too. Don't risk going further Matt. As the Grimm Reaper sign says at some cave entrances: "Stop! Prevent your death! Nothing in this cave is worth dying for!"
I'm honestly surprised the Chaos Coordinator hasn't had a deluge of emails from actual experts reacting in horror to what they've been doing.

I kept thinking why don't they have a rope? Even before they started talking about oxygen I was wondering why anyone would go in a cave with water without even a small air tank and mask. The whole thing is so half-assed for a potentially dangerous situation.
Yo Matt you guys gotta talk to the dudes at Dive Talk. They are UA-camrs and certified cave divers who have done some cave exploring down in Mexico

The one thing that I don't think that Matt needs to worry about getting lost in that cave since he's been traveling a straight line every time.I have a horrible sense of direction and even I couldn't possibly get lost in that cave by just going straight and not taking any turns.

You should 100% drop a pump in there and bring the water level down. It's a fairly cheap way to open it right up. Sunbelt rentals should be able to hook you up or you can hire a service to do all of it.
Definitely could buy a pump for cheap enough, plus then u could clean out the sediment
He will probably need the water to keep the area from becoming a desert resort soon.
@@black_rabbit7445nah, Texas is about to get hammered with rain and snow in places this upcoming week. The water they need is coming in a few days 👍🏻
That would be nice. However, the water is probably the only reason they can go through the cave. because, without the water, all of the jagged edges in the cave would quickly cause damage to anyone going through it.
I was also going to suggest pumping out the cave... Happy exploring!
You really should have air quality monitors exploring caves like that.
I love the cave videos so much. I saw someone mentioning pumping some of the water out. I wonder how long it would take to fill back up if you did that.
I guess noone can say for sure how fast it will fill up, it might be filled with rainwater or an underground source.
But the thought of trying out a pump for a few days is something I thought about aswell and not a bad idea
I love the cave content and thank god this is such a perfect team up!!!!
So glad to see roman on the channel. Seeing him brigs back good vibes from back in the day.
as a diver, who also did some ""light"" cave and cavern activities, i'd be concearned going without:
- a backup flashligt for each person
- a mask ( with that silt and suspension is even worst )
- knowing the air quality that i breath
- a planned rute
- a line, bonus if it has markers (you can see that the firsts explorers put down the so referred as "guiding rope")
- expirience, the most important
Experience is definitely needed. But back-up lights and batteries is a must. If you can keep a lighter dry you can check air quality with a flame.
@Underground_Adventures it's a little difficult bringing an keep a lighter dry in a fully submerged cave/cavern with no aired exit.
the air can still be toxic and have 0² to combine whit the butane and make the flame. as an example the air could contain a solfur-based gas and 0².
but i never explored/discovered new caves (for my good), so my knowledge and experience is limited, if you know more chapeau
@@Eagron all good pionts

These videos give me the willies. All I can think of is that cave suddenly filling with water and everyone drowning.
No doubt. The only reason I don't worry when watch it is the fact that the video was posted. You know at least the gopro made it to the surface.
I can only just bear to watch. It reminds me of when I tried caving and nearly got stuck. And of various horror movies.
Texas and sudden floods in the same sentence, now that’s a funny joke. Here in Texas it’s very obvious when a flood might occur

@jimyeats they use equipment lol what are you talking about
@@devilsadvocate1338 I’m not saying they don’t have *any* equipment, I am saying that whether they have the proper equipment/support or not they are often going to just send it, safe or not (which is fine, it’s certainly entertaining). Yes, they use some very basic equipment for certain climbs or descents, but overall the caves they explore involve just basic spelunking, scrambling, water wading and just having the nerve to push onward, i.e. nothing too technical.
This cave would require actual cave water diving (at least based on what Matt is describing), not just wading and swimming, an incredibly technical set of skills and one of the most dangerous types of exploration. Not to mention any additional variables from this man made structure being there and different added risks due to that.

I'm loving the cave content. Keep em coming
As much as the idea of getting trapped underground scares me, I can definitely understand the exploring appeal of caving and cave diving
Did anyone have the thought to pump out the water in the cave to have more room to explore?
How are they gonna do that when they don't even know how much water is in it and it would take days especially for the parts that you need to go underwater but also they don't even know how big the cave is so it's not really logical to try and pump it out
They could make the hole bigger so they don't have to crawl on their stomachs
Could be risky drying out the cave walls. If there's softer soil the walls might shift and collapse
Cave water level is probably already at a historic low given the lack of river after the dry weather.
if you look floowstones, they seem to be quite exactly level the water, is they only form in the air, not under the water . Was the cave normally filled up mutch more there probably would be less flow stones (shorter )
Regarding high methane and other non breathable gases in closed environments /gas pockets , you dont feel drunk; you just pass out after 2 breaths and will suffocate fast if the methane level is high enough , if someone try to rescue you without usinga eternal air supply they pass out also.
I read about some wreck divers that came uppon a "air pocket" in a wreck ,they thought cool ! Let's go in : they surfaces in the "air bubble " but kept
Using there air supply to breath to be safe . after a short time they felt someting was very wrong!
The unprotected skin on there faces was hurting with a burning sensation. They feelt a powerful stench through the diving masks and the eyes was hurting bad .
it was hydrogen sulfide from the petrufication processes that had collected in the gas pocket. Not air.
They left eminently. To avoid the risk of somone dieing or geting in danger they then
Smashed the porthole so the gases vented out .
After the dive they noticed that the aluminium air tanks had some corrosion on the upper part (hydrogen sulfide is corrosive) . Imagen if they had surfacesed and eminently taken a beep breath or two of that "air" ...
Anoder thing is the fact that methane may creates a "ex environment" , any electric spark ignition source can make it burn explosively. Light and electronics used should be made with / or combined with houses /covers with the proper ex classification . IP class.
I can jump from plane and i love adrenalin & diving. I would never ever ever cave dive... the risks are too high, especially without gas detector! One single failure and its game over... I had has much anxiety as watching free climbing. A friend of a friend was cave diving as a hobby, an expert in diving for 20+years. Chasing the adrenalin of drawing a new map, he met his faith. Dont be dumb, use a drone. I hope everyone will stay safe! 🙃😘
its 2023! use an underwater drone with cable! (yes you need to wait 10min every 5m for the sediment to set down) Whatever the cost of the infos/logistics/footage; Its less expensive than a human life. trust me bruh 😗
For starters. Finding your way out. Secondly we can't breathe water.
To be honest, there are 4major risk.
1: managing oxygen including stress 2: Getting lost / no visibility from sediment / desorientation ( lifeline can fail )
3: getting physically stuck / damage to equipment
4: depth is the most dangerous
Imagine the feeling knowing that you don't manage to get out of the cave and seeing your oxygen getting low, adrenaline, panic, increased oxygen consumption and drowning. You see all of that coming...
So much basic safety issues violated. This gives me mad anxiety every time I watch. There is a robot now that you can use. There is also a concern of actual snakes falling down in the hole

Big enough to call for help in any video for any specific special task, accomplishments 💪
By no means any sort of dive expert, but my understanding is that the concern mostly lies within chambers that are sealed off from the outside air. If you have to dive under water and go to an area that has no way for air to move into, you could potentially hit an chamber full of harmful gasses that have been trapped. You made the right call not going to an area only accessible by fully submerging yourself.
With the water in the cave, anoxic bacteria can produce H2S gas which is heavier than air and will hang around for a long time unless you literally drag an air hose in there and displace it out. The moment you start tromping in the silt, the gas can get released in large volumes which can quickly be fatal. Rarified air also may have no breathable oxygen or be otherwise toxic. I've measured samples in an iron mine which were less than 1% Oxygen, about 1% CO2 and the rest almost completely dry Nitrogen, which is not poisonous but will quickly kill you from hypoxia if you don't have supplemental oxygen. A filter mask will not protect you from low oxygen. Wearing a mask with supplied air is the way to go. Inhaling that air does not create a sense of anything wrong, because our respiratory system is triggered by high CO2 and not low O2.
@@946towguy2 oh I didn’t think about bacteria making gas but that makes total sense
Matt you should invite action adventure twins to come out. They have a UA-cam channel of some insane cave exploring, like repelling down a 300’ waterfall that is 30-60 minutes into a cave

I respect Matt's natural curiosity, but seriously wish he had a pro cave diver with him. Especially after watching Scary Interesting's channel here on YT
As plenty of others have noted, there is a concern for oxygen levels, but another thing to consider is the high potential for respiratory infections. There are creepy crawlies that have been living on the walls and ceilings, and disturbing those areas can stir up any built up excrement and mold/fungi.
sweet video. Thank you for the update on Pearl.
