The Spartans were extremely savage and strong warriors of Sparta, and they got attacked by Persia. It was 300 Spartans vs around 40,000 Persians. Eventually Sparta was overrun, but they put up such a massive fight that they got themselves a nice big spot in the history book. Impressive indeed.
the numbers were varied. 40k is a major lowball. It was anywhere from 35k to 140k (EXTREME highball)
