I was born and raised in Ojai. Even as a child, when driving this stretch of Hwy 33, I wondered how many people have EVER been down there, including the native Chumash. It’s very, very steep. I doubt there’s and water down there, at least not year round. Great video! I would NEVER have attempted that hike. I’m impressed. Thank you!
congratulations Mario for these images of this breathtakingly beautiful landscape and its flora. Allow me this friendly advice: on such a spot you should first use your drone to ensure the exact location of these cars and appreciate the possibility of accessing them in complete safety or not... a special thought for these unfortunate cars subjected to a double punishment: damaged during this infernal descent and crushed by incessant falling rocks!!
I as a teen, with friends, broke a rear axle on that stretch. His dad sent a tow truck to retrieve us and the station wagon . I'm thinking there was some reckless driving involved. Didn't " go off the road though" fortunate for us. I'm thinking there is no skeletons down there.
For you non-Clownifornia viewers ... this is Highway 33 that traverses the mountain area near Ojai. I have traveled it many times and there's a lot more to see than car relics. Beautiful scenery abounds. Another route of greater interest and road challenge is Highway 150 that connects Ojai to Santa Paula, CA. Its history and winding road are astounding. Just South of Ojai we lost one of America's astronauts on his Harley. One day, while cruising on my Harley, I watched two Beechcraft airplanes chasing each other through the canyons, resulting in their simultaneous collision with a mountain. These are just 2 of the area's historical events, of which there are plenty more.
That stretch of Hwy 150 you mention WAS closed down for months near Mupu school because of a massive landslide due to heavy rains. It’s open now though! An excellent, scenic drive. Great hiking. Great, year-round creek.
If you ever go back to Ojai again, how about taking some pictures of the town of Ojai itself. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested. It's a unique place! Thanks for the video.
I am so thankful I got to see these. Good, you chickend out. It is too dangerous. On the other hand, very few people must have been there. I bet most engines just dropped out of the cars during the fall. How many people lost their lives here? It is the most horrific canyon .
@@reverserockettv007 If you return, I suggest to stay overnight at the nearby ranch with bed and breakfast. Take a buddy and hike from below, from the ranch via the lake, or from the other side from the 33. It might be the only two ways. It will be tough but not extremely dangerous compared to the drop from the upper road.
Ya could come with more advanced equipment for your hikes. If I hiked 🚶♂️ these mountains ⛰️, I'd like to go ALL THE WAY DOWN to these cars 🚗. If I had to buy a work harness, and bring EXTRA LONG ropes, I'd secure one to a guard rail 🚈 post, and descend. If you're not doing a full scale visit this time around, I'd like to see ya go down here in a future 😉 video. Long time, no see!! Your friend, Jeff.
Hey Mario...... If there's a lot of bugs around me ... I'll break off a branch that's got some leaves on it but not too many because you can't switch it around fast enough but if you swish that Branch around your head it keeps the bugs away from you. Hey man probably 95% of all men could not do what you do ...don't sell yourself too short... What is really cool about what you're doing is there are people that are bedridden and people that are stuck in life somehow and they can't get out..... and in a way they get to go with you on your hike!!!!!! I hurt my back and it's taking forever to heal up.
From an easy reachable entry point from below, it is from either side a 5km difficult walk without guarantee to make it to the exact canyon. But that would be a 2 houres struggle and 2 houres back.
As a You Tube channel owner ((Views of nature Gr) , filming the Nature also ( Greek Nature) in my video s . My friend i Really Love those Mountains of California! I wish sam day i will manage to visit those mountain’s to walk them !!! Take care !!
Sorry 😞 about bothering ya twice, but I wonder 🤔 if ya can find an alternate way down here in a future video 📹. I REALLY want to see these cars 🚗. That Delta 88 is in a "flow" area. U can tell by the vegetation. A 1 in 25 yr ish rainfall will cause that to turn in to a lil rapids. I can see all the rocks/debris in the engine compartment of that car too! crazy
@@willc5512 I agree. You can definitely see where the water flowed through. At first I thought all of the rocks in the car was from using the cars to reinforce the banks like they did back in the really old days to keep roads from eroding away.
Ride this on my Harley more than 300 hundred times 1 of favorite rides. Just be careful. I do this ride almost everyday. It's a loop I do from el rio to ventura hit old creek road come out in Santa Paula back to ventura then back to El Rio. Nothing like Malibu hills

That hubcap is actually for a Ford Pickup and van 1967-1977. Those were called "Poverty Caps" :)

Those cars must have been washed down . There is no way a car could get enough momentum to stay
airborn long enough get close to that area.
