"I wish I could pause everything in my life and go catch up ... just go spend the next 4-5 months, read this thing nonstop and go catch up". I did the entire series front to back (to the end of volume 9 at the time) in 3 months of nonstop reading last year! It's wild to think that this channel is how I found The Wandering Inn in the first place. Take the plunge! Catch up!
Matt as someone who loves all the same audio book narrators as you do, an easy to fit more of this series into your schedule is the audio books. Andrea Parsneau does an excellent job of narrating / performing this series. It can't be said enough, how amazing of a job she does on voicing all the different species in this series.
Andrea's soothing voice is able to elevate a bad novel to okay Binding words), an okay book to good (azarinth healer), and a good book to great (Gravesong). Great books like Twi are elevated to masterworks.
Please, please more reviews of Wandering Inn... It is my favourite series. If you think this is great, you have no idea how insane things become... no idea.
I began this series BECAUSE of you ... and I'm about to begin THIS book. I'm super-excited to come back to this review when I finish to view your spoiler portion! I TOTALLY agree about your "at peace" perspective. I have absolutely ADORED this series, and I think about it constantly when I'm reading other things - so it's easy to come back to, and I have never felt lost. I thank you SO MUCH for encouraging me to dive into this. It may be my all-time favorite series. I sincerely hope that it continues for years to come!
I thank you for introducing me to this amazing series and boy I love this series especially book 9, im still stuck in volume 6 ive taken a months long break on this series but i do want to get back to it at some point but I was able to get to end of volume 5 ( book 9) and boy what a finale and just its one of the best stories I have read and the themes and characters are so well done and beautiful it impresses me what pirateaba accomplished with this story I cannot wait for you to read it, Its one of the best, if not the best story I've ever read
Wait for The Witch of Webs and then reconsider :P I'm over the 2/3 mark of volume 7 and TWoW was a very good arc. Volume 7 is also full of great arcs! Can't wait for reading the rest of the story :D
Wow what an awesome intro-that’s the best sales job I could’ve imagine for me as someone who does love closure and who’s been put off this one knowing I can’t catch up
I remember back when the Laken chapters were being written, and then the Flos chapters and then the "too many" side character complaints at that time....and all I have to say is that those people felt so lost later on because they were skipping chapters. When things converge and you don't know the importance of these characters or their achievements or their personalities, you don't get to enjoy the convergence as much. Read everything, it's all important, no matter how unimportant it feels or how much you may dislike certain PoV. It's absolutely worth it.
I recently caught up with the webnovel and after taking almost 2 months to be able to really get into any other book (that wasn't ascendance of a bookworm) - this was the mother of all book hangovers lol. Something that really surprised me when I did start reading other authors is just how good Pirate's prose writing has become. Like you I read the early volumes and decided that her writing was serviceable but nothing remarkable. Pirate still isn't a joe abercrombie but they are better at this aspect of writing than many traditionally published authors now. Twelve million word of practice makes you better at your craft - who would have thought !? :)
K cha becomes fun when new povs are explored in these chs. Also chandrar wil only explode qhen all pieces are on the board. You only know one big piece called Flos, just remember, It will take a while before pirate setsup the board Book 7, 8 and 9 are almost written like a triology , suggested reading pace is to read with a gap of one moblnth betwen books After book 9 you can revert back to longer breakes or whatever suits your pace as you will come to understand how the world will function post book 9
Great to see you enjoying the story so far, you are going to enjoy it even more now that what can be called the ''prologue' part of the story is basically over. TWI is only really getting started, you wouldn't believe what lies ahead.
Alright then, I guess I have to give this a shot one day. I am convinced to check it out now. Edit: Holy shit, these books are gigantic no wonder there aren’t physical copies. I don’t think you COULD put these into a book without the spine collapsing. Are the audiobooks good?
The world building is so insane-- it could easily be three times as long and it still wouldn't be long enough. The author just doesn't have time to write all the parts of the story that deserve to be written. And the next incredible thing about TWI is that it somehow keeps escalating and escalating and escalating without jumping the shark, or losing the point, or becoming unrelatable. You've just dipped your toe into the pool. A pool of face eater moths, maybe, but still a pool.
The earth stuff impacting the world did rub me the wrong way at times, but the more I've read the more that it's feeling like it's following in the tradition of Pratchett's Discworld - juxtaposing fantasy and modern traditions or technology to create comedy. It feels inspired but not imitative and I think it really earns it. A lot of the things which annoyed me at first, as the author has committed to them and kept coming back to them, have begun to feel more organic, which is one of the things that impresses me most about the series; committing to risks in the storytelling and putting in the effort and skill to have them pay off.
FYI- Pirateaba announced that starting last month she is only writing one chapter a month for TWI instead of 2 chapters. So maybe that will give all of us a chance to actually catch up one day :)
@@jakepietrzak7552 lol, yeah I know someone told me that. Im not caught up, but I just saw the blog she put out about writing less, so I just assumed she was writing less, but turns out shes not lol. Im still reading it faster then she is writing it so I will catch up someday
It's 1 a week and 1 week off a month. So 3 chapters a month down from 3 a week they did at their height of production. This schedule is healthier for them.
Just as feedback, I haven't read any book in the series and I don't know that will. Regardless , I very much enjoy listening you talk about it and it may eventually get me to pick it up!
Thanks Matt. Do you think these books will ever be published as a series of real books? Would be an awesome collection of books of a series to have. Thanks!
Oh, gosh. If there is ANY part of you that enjoys audiobooks, I *highly* recommend these audiobooks. The narrator is completely out of this world! All of these different species have VERY distinct and interesting ways of speaking that would be difficult to replicate in your mind.
@jessezigg The audiobook is crayzy~ The voice actress is amazing. I often forget that it's voiced by one person. She has a super crazy range of voices. Even the voices that sound somewhat similar have their own distinct style, that quickly makes you aware of who's talking. So good.
@@spyroskampanos7965 The Wandering Inn currently is only available to read online, e-book, and audio books. It is not available in physical book form at the moment.
Unfortunately for you, The King of Destruction never really gets the story you are looking for. He will get some screen time with great moments. He will also get a personality tweek in the later volumes that makes him a little more bearable for those of us who don't like him. Lots of Laken and Flos coming up but no plot advancement just small adventures where you get to know them and their supporting cast better.
Well, if he specifically wants a story about the slow conquest of all of Chandrar, then yeah no he won't. But if what he's enjoying is the politics of it all, which I think is the case, I think he'll have a pretty good time down the line as we learn more and more about all the surrounding countries.

Ascendance of a Bookworm is fantastic - it subverts a lot of the frustrating tropes that many Japanese generic fantasy isekai stories overuse.
I love the chapters like the play chapter the most, It's kinda magical in its own way for me.

The Voice Actress for the audiobooks, Andrea Parsneau, does an AMAZING job.
