My heavens, such glory!! Maestro Giulini & especially his brass section are incomparable. The 1st horn player is the greatest of them all. A grand post!!!
Straordinaria tensione e assoluto rispetto per l'autore. Giulini è un modello di etica musicale. Very thrilling, with great devotion to the composer's mind. Giulini is a rare example of being totally and ethically at the service of the music. Mala tempora currunt.
Giulini anticipates the sound here and transcends it by creating a tension, an incredible concentration and a communicative need. Under his baton, Brahms' work is perceived under luminous reperes with deep and clear sounds, blossoming in favor of a musical interpretation and a real experience. Thank you for this video!
Thank you for this posting. This is late Giulini -- Los Angeles Giulini -- at his best: rich, full, moving, but also transparent and rhythmically taut. Given his preference for slow tempos, it is remarkable how exciting the interpretation is, as well. It is true that the DG disc has better sound. But nothing can take the place of seeing this great conductor and his musicians interact.
Just listening two bars, you suddenly can understand that Giulini was a true giant, at the service of the music. We could spend many words to describe in technical terms the worth of this stunning performance. Very sad to think this orchestra is actually in Dudamel's hands.
You are absolutely right. After Giulini left the LAPO the emphasis was on glamor not musicianship. The Los Angeles Phil. is still an outstanding orchestra but mostly because of visiting conductors such as Simone Young and others.

The conductor who conducts from his heart. It was my great honor to attend his last concert in Paris during my studies in Paris.

Wonderful performance.
Giulini is my favorite conductor for this symphony.

It is a privilege to watch and listen to this brilliant conductor interact with the LAPO. Thank you.

Aggiugerei anche la Pastorale e la terza di Schumann
This video is wonderful, BUT for the better sonic experience DG still offers the disc, as does AMAZON of the Brahms 1 with Giulini/LA Phil.
Fabuleous !!!
What a performance!!
Giulini in my opinion was a great Maestro Richard Richard
