  • This is our review of the HHD 48 egg incubator. We look at how it works, and then go on and see if it will hatch chicks.
    This incubator goes by many different names, and is used by many different brands. It may also be known as a Janoel 48.
    Whilst not the best incubator in the world, it did manage to hatch some chicks. Due to its size, we may keep it, and use as an emergency brooder.
    It can be purchased on Amazon here: amzn.to/2VF5x4J

    Great video very helpful. I have had this type of incubator for a year, used to hatch chicken and goose eggs. I think it is important to retain the polystyrene packaging the incubator is designed to sit inside it. This helps to retain the heat. This is not mentioned in the instructions but if you buy one of these use the polystyrene it comes in.

      Great point, and very helpful. Mine didn't come with much polystyrene around it, and just a thin cardboard box :(

      @@AnnoyDad Mine looks as if it should be part of it fits perfectly with a top and bottom. It began to fail to maintain temperature towards the end of a goose egg hatch last week managed to get to the end of the hatch and maintain temperature by putting two hot water bottles on top and a duvet probably not recommended this could be a fire risk but had 6 goslings with a loss of 4 due to temperature issue before the emergency remedy. My partner is an electrician so he took it apart and tested every component everything tested ok but going to replace the heating element and fan easy to do. Noticed two days ago that somebody made an insulating box out of foil backed polystyrene on a Facebook post suspecting it may be a common issue.

    temperature is 37 or 37,5 on the middle of the incubator but near the corner it is lower like 36 or 35.5 ive put 5 thermometer inside so to be sure all eggs can hatch are in the middle about 24 eggs unless i have prob with my incubator

      Sounds like it may be an insulation issue. I put a wrap round my brinsea as it has been in an un heated room. Other reviews on UA-cam with this type of incubator have the reviewer putting the incubator in the bottom polystyrene packing box

    when you put the eggs in on day 18 make them touch so they can feel and hear the other hatching.

    Nice in depth summary, very informative.
    We've used these particular models quite a lot with no issues. Hatching 85 - 95 % per run.
    The factory setting are great. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
    I feel the humility setting you are changing are the issue. Don't compare them to the ambient humidity.
    I suggest you reset all the setting to factory, the run a batch.
    To get accurate comparisons with other incubators, run one alongside with the same source, same age etc.
    Please do share the results.
    Looking forward

    I am on my second setting on day 17. My other batch was 16/20 it took a while to get the temps right and understanding the incubator. I would do a practice hatch before setting the more expensive eggs.

    Hello, I need you to help me sort out a problem with my brooder please. I have exactly the same incubator but the reversal does not work. I took the control panel apart and there were some unplugged wires. can you please disassemble your control panel to take a picture of the connections for me?

    i love that noise.. the lil churp of life... well i bought one of these a couple years ago and had no luck... can not buy any chicks this year due to this virus so im trying to hatch my own giving ebay a chance to see if i get any fertile eggs... not looking foreward to this as i feel i wont get them show up or any fertile but gotta try... thanks for the video..

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  4 роки тому +1

      Good luck with it all :)
      Try and search eBay for nearby sellers, and see if you can collect, or if they would drop off. I've never had much luck with postage eggs, normally getting 2/6 as an average.

      I think alot of places this year are just waiting, and seeing. Personally, I currently have 4 incubators going, and will try and sell the birds via preloved when the time comes, if I can't auction them. If all elese fails, grab some eggs from Sainsburys (see my hatching supermarket eggs vid).

    The humidity in your video is 80 percent and how do you set it to 80 percent? In My incubator humidity is 38%. There is water in incubator, but no eggs. When I set humidity on 50 percent then humidity is 38% and it is very low, what can I do? How to add humidity percent?

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  3 роки тому +1

      These incubators don't control the humidity, you do. Don't worry about the humidity setting on the control panel.
      Buy a smaller humidity reader (hygrometer) from eBay. They can be quite cheap, and use that to read your humidity. Then control the level by adding water via the holes in the side of the incubator.

    • @trevandjom
      @trevandjom 3 роки тому +1

      I've got the same problem. I bought a cheap thermometer/hygrometer on eBay and found out the units temp was way out. I don't think there is a way to calibrate it. I've changed the alarm settings so it stops beeping at me during the night.

    I am having some problems with temperature, how can I calibrate incubator and which termometers are you using

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  5 років тому

      You can calibrate it by doing the +/- on the CA setting in the menu.
      Most thermometers can be used within the unit, but take a general view over 24 hours, rather than what it reads right now. I do find they go up and down, and are not as consistent as other brands.
