ALL-NEW space ship model kit: Scale-modeling is a great hobby that provides a great looking display that you build yourself. This 1/32 scale Galileo shuttle plastic assembly kit presents the shuttlecraft featured in STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES. This precision-molded kit is based on the set and miniature model used in the show!
Precision fit: This model is created from all-new tooling for excellent fit and presents a fun building experience. The model is 11” long when completed and rests on detailed landing gear. It also features an open equipment hatch and other details.
Star Trek is an American science-fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that follows the adventures of the starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) and its crew. It later acquired the retronym of Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) to distinguish the show within the media franchise that it began.
The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy, roughly during the 2260s. The ship and crew are led by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), First Officer and Science Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and Chief Medical Officer Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley). Shatner's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose:
Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
The series was produced from September 1966 to December 1967 by Norway Productions and Desilu Productions, and by Paramount Television from January 1968 to June 1969. Star Trek aired on NBC from September 8, 1966, to June 3, 1969,[6] and was actually seen first on September 6, 1966, on Canada's CTV network.[7] Star Trek's Nielsen ratings while on NBC were low, and the network cancelled it after three seasons and 79 episodes. Several years later, the series became a hit in broadcast syndication, remaining so throughout the 1970s, achieving cult classic status and a developing influence on popular culture. Star Trek eventually spawned a franchise, consisting of eight television series, 13 feature films, and numerous books, games, and toys, and is now widely considered one of the most popular and influential television series of all time.[8] The series contains significant elements of Space Western, as described by Roddenberry and the general audience.
Galileo is a fictional spacecraft that appeared in the 1960s American science-fiction television series Star Trek. It was a shuttlecraft assigned to the USS Enterprise, and was the first of its type to be seen on screen in the franchise, appearing in the episode "The Galileo Seven". It appeared an additional four times in the series before being replaced by the Galileo II, a repaint of the full-size exterior model.
Requests for building the props required to allow a shuttle to appear in episodes were initially turned down by Desilu Productions due to the cost. When Aluminum Model Toys became interested in building model kits of the Enterprise, a deal was struck in which they built the props in exchange for the licence. In addition to a miniature, two full-size props were built. After the end of the series, the full-scale exterior model was donated to a school for the blind. It then passed through a series of owners before being sold at auction in 2012. It was then restored and donated to the Johnson Space Center.
The first appearance of the Galileo was in the season 1 episode "The Galileo Seven". In this episode, an away team is led by Spock (Leonard Nimoy) to investigate an anomaly while the Enterprise heads on to the planet Makus III to lend medical aid. The shuttle is pulled off course and crashes on the planet Taurus II. The away team attempts to find a way to return the damaged Galileo to orbit, while being attacked by the natives of the planet. The crew refuel the shuttle from the battery packs of their collective phasers, and once in orbit, Spock dumps and ignites the remaining fuel to produce a giant flare that allows the Enterprise to find them. The crew are transported to safety as the Galileo burns up in the atmosphere. During the course of the episode, a second shuttle, named Columbus, is seen. This is a re-use of the miniature model of the Galileo. All future appearances of the miniature in the series were re-uses of the footage from this episode.[16]
Despite its destruction,[16] the Galileo is seen a further four times during the second season. In "Metamorphosis", the Galileo is forced to land on an unknown planet. Unable to discern a cause of the shuttle's malfunction, Spock meets with Zephram Cochrane (Glenn Corbett), who explains that a dampening field on the planet is preventing the shuttle from working.
I'm 57yo and grew up as a kid watching TOS on a 12" B&W TV back in the early '70s. I built all the AMT kits, like most kids I knew, and I took my modeling very seriously. By the time I was 11yo, I was adding miniature light bulbs and fiber optics to all my ships. I had the Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica models. Always wanted a Jupiter 2 but couldn't find a kit back then so I made my first one out of molded paper plates and cardboard with a detailed interior and windows. Anyway, I built my Galileo out of an AMT kit. The hull was two complete shells so I left the top shell as a removable part so you could see the lighted and detailed interior that I built for it. It came with some plastic chairs and a simple dashboard piece so that was a start. I installed some engine bulbs and a blinking LED to the dashboard. I had to cut out the front windows and modify the engine parts to light up. I used a 555 timer chip on a PCB that I etched and soldered myself. All from components from Radio Shack and a little help from a Forrest Mimms book. I'm sure that a few people will remember doing the same thing. I thought it was pretty creative work for a little kid who had no help and no computer and no internet. I've spent the last 35 years as an electronics eng' designing, building, and programming complex PCBs... obviously now using a computer, and an added bonus, also 3D modeling the assembled PCB projects and modeling custom enclosures too, and 3D printing them. I guess I'm lucky that Star Trek inspired me to get started in a field that I would follow my whole life.
Cool!
I agree with your philosophy on model building. Paint and build it how you like. There's never been a perfect model, and if someone said they made one, well they're full of it. Awesome build. I can't see how anyone could criticize this or any of your builds. Thanks again Chris for bringing so much enjoyment to all of your loyal viewers 👍👍
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Not a Star Trek person but I love all the Sci Fi stuff that comes from Star Trek and Star Wars. I will absolutely be building this kit.
Enjoy it!
Look how clean that carpet is!
It's nice to watch someone who really enjoys model building. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
FYI: the guy who designed this shuttle was the same guy who was on the design team
that did the Studebaker Avanti. His name was Thomas Kellogg. He worked for Raymond
Lowey the big 20th century industrial designer. The design is mostly his but there were
changes to fit the series' requirement. Kellogg's design was gray originally.
That is true. I loved the Avanti it was such a great looking car and when I found out why I loved it so much, it all fell into place. I called it the Star Trek connection.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
BUT GENE WINFIELD BUILT THE ACTUAL 1:1 SHUTTLE FOR THE SHOW AND IF IM CORRECT GENE IS ON VIDEO STATING HE DESIGNED THIS SHUTTLE........
Kellogg's design was the basic Galileo box, a little sleeker and without the nacelles. The entire glacis (front sloped part) was transparent, as was a little bit of the roof behind it. There's a good visualization of it at the Sci-Fi Air Show site.
From what I reading is that there was back and forth between Kellogg, Winfield and Jeffrey. Winfield fabricated it. The basic design was Kellogg.
Great build! She looks perfect. Nice to see some more sci fi builds in the mix. Stay safe!
More to come!
Chris+ I love this shuttle craft this will go nicely with my 1/350 scale TOS Enterprise I had the old amt kit back in 1975 as a kid I am definitely getting this kit to make my tos display thank you thank you I grew up in the early 1970s watching star trek in reruns love it thanks for this review
Enjoy it man!
Reading the comments, I see I am not alone remembering the interior of this model. Still on the sane side of senile, lol! I wonder if COVID-19 put limitations on production, and they already have an interior planned.
The model is beautiful. Now you need 1/25 guys for the kit, to put in the foregroud, because I remember the kit was like 75% scale on planet, lol! Great job!
Thanks Stu!
Looks great. The "Galileo Seven" was one of the better episodes.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I think your build is perfect; This is how modelling should be, FUN. Can't wait to see if they issue a light kit.
Spot on David, it's suppose to be FUN
Totally agree!
Thanks David!
I do agree that they need an interior kit and a lighting and maybe the figures from that episode
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
If you can find the _AMT_ kit from the 70's, it comes molded in white with interior pieces. The control panel, seating for seven and the back door/bulkhead...but no lighting kit.
@Lloyd Robert Evans I was thinking it would make a cool lunch box too.
Oh... my...gosh. I was just thinking back to my old collection of Star Trek kits. Looking forward to getting this one.
Hope you enjoy it!
Great build and looks awesome. Thank you for sharing your builds and tips. Everyone keep yourself, family, and friends safe and healthy. Remember to smile and have FUN
Thanks for coming along for the fun Teddy!
I pre-ordered mine. Can't wait until it arrives.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I like your laid back style of building. Too many times I watch videos of guys that are so obsessed with perfection (seam filling, lights in everything, every little dot of paint correct, etc.) that they forget to enjoy the build and the hobby. I get that they want to get a good boy ribbon at the local model show but it makes for an environment that if you don't do it as good as they do, it's not worth building and you shouldn't bother and that's not the attitude we need to inspire people (especially young people who are more obsessed with technology instead of hands on craftsmanship) to get into the hobby. I like that you stress that people should build their models the way they want to and not have to worry about the criticism of perfectionists that feel the need to belittle people that don't build it to their standards. Thank you for inspiring people to either stay in the hobby or get into it for the first time and enjoy the build and be proud of their achievement. That's what it's all about!
You bet man! I'm all about the FUN side of modeling.
If folks love stressing over their vision of perfection that's cool, but I don't like when they insist that everyone else enjoy the hobby the way they choose too.
There is room for all of us to like what we make and enjoy ourselves in our own ways. :)
@@hpiguy So true and well said! Thank you for the sneak peek at this kit!
5th time watching this, I got 3d printed interior consoles and chairs. I love the idea of building a really nice looking kit in a short period of time! Great job!
Thanks for stopping by!
I got my kit it looks great , I pre ordered it after watching this video. Im gonna build it after I finish my mobius Jupiter 2.
Your video was awesome.
Hope you enjoy it!
Nice,thanks for showing kit,and build.😎
You bet!
Awesome kit and outstanding build as always. Thanks
Glad you like it!
Best thing about this kit is they got the surprisingly complex shape of the studio models correct. And yes I can see an interior kit coming either from Round2 or one in resin from the aftermarket.
The original Shuttle craft model from AMT was my first model I ever built.
I need to get this as an homage
Enjoy!
Very different , but cool , cool build . Mike Espo..
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Fascinating!
(Sorry. I just could not resist!)
Nice looking build despite no interior. The craft itself looks to an ample size. Thanks for sharing Chris
Thanks for watching!
Very nice unbox, build and explained! Very important what you’d said: you build the kit for yourself and the way that you want (that’s the number 1 rule of the hobby) 👍
I agree, unless you're building an exact replica of an actual vehicle, have fun paint it,detail it however you want! One of the things I really like about hpiguy's builds! Do it how you want it
Thanks! 👍
Well this video ...... beamed me up ;)
*takes a bow*
😛 ha ha
Boo...hiss...😎😎😎
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Got one on preorder! Can’t wait
Enjoy!
Yes it would be nice to see this with a full interior given its size.
Yes!
That's a VERY cool kit!!!!!
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Always loved the Galileo shuttle, and once it’s available I will be getting one! Just need the interior and a set of crew figures to complete! Love the way you build kits, no fuss all fun!
Thanks Andy!
My galileo was black and white didn't have a colour telly😀👍
Then yours was grey!!! Proper color!! Lol!
Haha! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
In figure painting, the is a technique where only black and white paints are used, to create all the shades of 'black and white'. It's quite a cool effect. I have yet to see that technique used on a vehicle, but I bet it would look cool.
@@clubtepes2046 OMGoodness, I have seen that style of painting. On the Galileo, due to the angles and lines, oooohhhhh, that would look incredible!!
Those two holes on the floor inside just behind the windshield makes me think that an interior kit may be in the works; like those are pilot/copilot seat locators.
Great work! I've been a Star Trek fan since high school and I want this model!
That would be cool!
Nice job on the small fine details too!!
A lot of well detailed parts to this kit...
Sweet, Chris! Been MONTHS since you did a Star Trek kit. Rumor has it that a future release of this kit WILL have a full interior. You're definitely right, after-market companies will be all over this with resin and lighting kits to make it look like a real vehicle. Be nice if somebody does figures for it, too. I must have built a dozen of the old AMT Galileos and loved them, but WOW is this puppy accurate! The final reveal looks nice and clean...just like a screen grab from the show. Please do Flight of the Vampire some time in the next 2 weeks!
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Another excellent build Chris! The Galileo came out beautiful. Well done.
Thanks a bunch!
This is the model of the Shuttlecraft we have been waiting on since the 70's...when AMT gave is that box with inaccurate decals. Its about time!
You are a testament to your spray booths durability.
As long as the filters get changed it should last as long as the motor does.
Very nice job. It is so cool that they send you these kits to post. I have been looking at Model Round up kits and your builds are all over the site with a lot of your channel videos. I lose time shopping looking at your videos again, LOL. Looking forward for the next one. Take care and thanks.
Glad you like them!
That’s a really interesting build Chris
Thanks!
Another great looking build!!.. Looks just like the one on Star Trek!!... Keep up the great work Bud!!
Thanks! Will do!
Polar Lights has done a fantastic job with their trek kits, including this one. You would think they could have done an interior kit like the old AMT kit had, especially with the sliding roof feature. Would have been great to light that as well. Good build.
From what I've heard the interior is coming, and hopefully lighting kit.
@@hpiguy That would be great. I may hold off on the build awhile. Thanks...
I'm not into star trek but this one is super cool thanks for showing it!
Thanks for watching!
I gotta get one.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
That's a pretty big kit!
Right!
for the most part it's a nice kit it is a little more accurate to what the shuttle is supposed to be as compared to the original however the original is not a bad kid at all and with the accurizing kit that was made for it several years later it actually builds up into a nice little replicas itself I still have my original from when my friends and I used to make our own basement home Star Trek movies and recently I have gone through and started redoing it I have the decal sheet and everything so I can put it all back the way it was before I stripped all the paint and everything off of it but I got the accurizing kit, and I started making it look more like what it should look like and the nice thing with it is it has an interior.
the problem with the new one is for as expensive as the model is this is a $50 model kit you would think for that kind of money they not only could have given you an interior like the original had but also crew figures to put inside of it so that is one thing that I'm kind of disappointed about with this model kit also they also got the decal sheet wrong they have the Columbus as being number 3 the Columbus is not shuttle craft 3. The Columbus's number shuttle
to the Copernicus which isn't even on the decal sheet was number three which was also mentioned in the original series and they completely left it off but it was the Galileo seven the Columbus two, the Copernicus 3 and the Einstein 6.
and where as this is a really nice kit, for someone who is on a budget like myself for that kind of price I will stick to my original old one as that is a bit much. Which again shocked me when I saw the price tag and was like Sorry can't afford that.
I am a HUGE STAR TREK FAN,but I am what you call an undercover treekie🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
I like it all!
Nice build. To reply to eottoe2001. George Barris built the original shuttle craft for the studio so AMT would bring out the USS Enterprise in kit form. George stated this in a on television interview.
George made up a lot of stuff and took credit for things he had no part in. AMT had Gene Winfield do it.
www.c-we.com/piranha/GeneWinfield.htm
This is suppose to have an interior kit and while I don't recall if they said back during prototyping, knowing polar lights star trek kits, this will probably have a lighting kit as well. Maybe they will combine the 2, dunno.
I'm 100% certain that someone will issue a photo-etch and or resin/3D printed interior. I can't remember if the updated bridge kit is in this scale, but close enough to cast and mold to use those seated or standing figures for a diorama or in flight. These will sell great, no matter the cost and the fit is very good with some thought.
I hope so!
Great job!
Enjoyed watching you build this kit! Looking forward to seeing you build those Chevys and King Chopper!
You and me both!
Great build I love star trek and that looks fantastic. What a bohemith of a model. Hope they come out with a light kit and they should of included figures. Anyways have a great weekend.
I hope so too!
Looks awesome Chris. Perfect.
Thank you! Cheers!
I still have an unbuilt one of these kits that I bought back in the 70's. Not even kidding. Mine will never look like this.
That's the older kit, this one is all new, build it up and have fun!
A different kind of kit. Very cool
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I built the old AMT kit and it's ok but this one looks so much better. Hope someone designs an interior kit!
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Nice work !
Came out great
Thanks!
As a guy that just does Gundam kits. i Enjoy your videos and builds. I do want to build a USS Defiant
Great build and paint. I like they did 1/32
I think so too!
Have fun building this neat Star Trek Galileo Shuttle, leave the agonizing over "accuracy" to the Dental Mirror & Caliper Crowd - this is the best kit now available on this iconic subject.
I for one, can't wait to get my hands on it. This is not a complicated model and should be easy to light - My hope is that someone will do a 3D printed interior w/photo-etch and decals.
Great video! Anybody have a can of Pactra Rebel Grey?
Yeah it's a blast and the super detailers will have fun creating their show perfect replicas too!
Polar lights needs to also, come out with the movie shuttlecraft like in star trek 5!
Or even a 1/48 Runabout or the Delta Flyer!
Beautiful.
Thank you! Cheers!
I NEED THIS!!!! but the last time i ordered something from the US it took 2 months and it got the Ace Ventura treatment. bend photo etch isn''t fun
Awesome build
Glad you think so!
😎 decals with this kit too!!
This could be a big seller for polar lights.
not a model collector by nature, but an exception will be made in this case.
like you said, kit would benefit greatly with an interior and lights.
Sure will!
So happy to see your video up tonight, this is one I will have to get when it appears in the UK, yours looks great
Hope you enjoy it!
Looks great Chris. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
great presentation
Thank you!
Nice!.. thank you👍🇳🇿
Nice shiny paint job...
Awesome job Chris!! this is one my want list now!
Go for it! You'll love it man!
Nice build. Hope they make the light set later on for you to use.
I hope so too!
Excellent awesome superb outstanding work on the model as always keep up the good work I will be watching
Thank you very much!
Hi Chris, thanks for putting this up first out of the new kits. Looks good, never realized there was so much detail on the belly of the shuttle. There was a 3rd party interior listed on Culttvman but it seems to be missing now, pity. I'm sure something will show up eventually though.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I've been trying to find Voyager's Delta Flyer in a model kit in a bit smaller scale than this but no luck, anyone know of any websites that I can find one? Thanks for any help
I remember building one of these growing up (10 - 12), You did a great
job detailing everything. I hope they do produce an interior kit. I vaguely remember the version I built having 6 or 8 Captain chairs.
Seven seats. Would be 8 but one is missing to not block the doorway. Hence the "Galileo Seven". I did build one of these way back in the day, and was disappointed to see this reissue didn't have an interior.
nspo I just didn’t remember how many seats. That was 40 years ago for me. Lol.
nspo I agree, but I’m still happy that it was brought back.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Great video! I think that you build more kits in a month than most of us do in five years.
Haha, average 8 per month, plus bonus videos. ;)
@@hpiguy wow, that's a lot! 👍
Nicely done! Great job.
Thank you very much!
That roof being able to slide in and out just cries out for a detailed interior.
Sure does!
For all those wailing about it, Round 2 addressed the lack of interior when the kit was being contemplated. The old AMT kit was horrible, it was clear a new tool would be needed. However, to do an accurate one with interior would require almost two kits worth of tooling to do it right. There would have to be separate exterior and interior walls, roofs, floors, details. Their budget was limited, and compared to other things they could do, they put the Galileo shuttle on the back burner, and other kits that were felt to be more economically viable, like the 1/1000 Reliant were done instead. Simply put, they did not think it was good plan at the time to sink almost two kits of what few resources they had into the Galileo shuttle. Eventually, this compromise was possible - the shuttle kit got made, but no interior. That’s the better than no kit at all, right?
Thanks for the info!
hpiguys Workshop www.collectormodel.com is a blogspot run mostly by Jamie from Round 2, along with some guests. Currently discussing the upcoming Moonraker Bond shuttle rerelease, but for example the Galileo shuttle project was discussed extensively a couple years back. There was a lot of despair over it then. At least we got something, eventually. Anyway, besides hobby advice, there is frequent discussion of the hows and whys of what happens behind the curtain at Round 2. Or what doesn’t happen, as the case may be here.
very nice build subject.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really good kit. I love it. As you said, some people could make the interior, either to sell to other modelists or for themselves. In 2013, the REAL Galileo was restored. There's video about the restoration easily available on UA-cam. So people could use it as a reference. And I guess it's in TOS show condition, as the people that restored it got into contact with the original builder (Tho, it is not said/shown if he was around for the whole restoration, or if he was only around at the begining to guide them.).
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
This is a Nice Video Build to Watch. You Build Models The way My Father used to build them. I Like Your Style Sir and Thumbs up for Letting it be known to build These Models Your Own Way. I Build Also and I have Scratched built a 2 Foot Shuttle That is Similar to the Galileo Shuttle and my 12 inch Star Trek figures fit comfortably inside with Scratch built seats, Lighting and 4 inch speakers for playing Sound Effects. I would like to send you pictures of my work. I may have to order this kit. As far as the interior goes on this model. You can Always Scratch build one. Vic
You bet, it's all about the FUN and no stress on perfection.
This is cool!
Thanks!
I must have this
You must!
Kirk: "Well, Dr. McCoy, what do you think of the Galileo shuttle craft?"
McCoy: "Damn it Jim, it ain't got no toilet." "Sh@t."
Beautiful job as always..
Thank you so much 😊
Have one on order and have the base ready for a different idea.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Hey you did great on that. Some people are just too picky
Well if it makes them happy to pick things apart so be it, but I'm just into building my models and having fun.
Enjoy!
@@hpiguy good for you. Same here
That was a cool build, Chris! Not so much on classic Trek (I guess it was just before my time, LOL), but everything from TNG on I'm a closet Trekkie myself, I enjoyed watching, my friend, happy weekend to you and yours 😊✌
Glad you enjoyed it!
Its even nicer than i suspected, but it's still in preorder everywhere i look.
Noting the interior, it's just screaming to to modded with chairs, etc.
Yes, it's due in August at most places. Enjoy!
Very good video, Round 2 just missed to include interior parts, but i hope some other party will do.
I hope so too!
I'm on it!! I just need to know the floor dimensions to scale accordly the parts.
@@tonyfz6 hey good news body ! you can ask Steve at cult tv man for the floor . Keep us in touch please !
@@richardb.8467 Thanks!!
I’m sure the after market guys will come out with an interior and lighting.
I hope if R2 doesn't, they do!
@@hpiguy I built the old AMT version back in the "70's", I thought it was a terrible kit even back then. Nice to see this one is soooooo much better!
Beutiful model
That light gray paint you used for the shuttle looks like it might be a nice match for the bridge model kit. Can you tell me the name of that paint manufacturer and where did you get it?
I've pre-ordered my kit thanks for your video , if the make a light and interior kit I'll be getting them as well. Your kit looks
Great
Sounds great!
Nice build chris as usual
Thanks 👍
Looks like a fun one. I may get one for the festive season :)
edit- also, with that removable roof, building an interior will be a great idea. Maybe Polar Lights has plans for a version with the interior? If not, i'm sure third party kits or scratch building are options i'll be looking into.
