I cant wait for pokemon gen 10 to be the worst games ever made
It'll make for a fun video
Cant wait the shortbus fans to defend it to death
Gen 10 will be responsible for a video game crash like E.T. was
@@ironoat We can only hope...
I can’t wait until adult children scream “I WANT MY RHEEEEPHUN NAO!!!”
My favourite moment in the game is when nemona shows you the landscape from the lighthouse and tells you how beautiful it is while you're just looking at ps2 textures
lmao
N64, Saturn, and PS1 textures. Comparing it to the PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast, and Gamecube generation is an insult.
As a shiny hunter, I agree with you removing the shiny sound effect was a dumb idea.
Literally saw a shiny hoppip foating by in the wind (cause Lore Haha 😒) as i was battling a Igglybuff, I'm colorblind so didnt at first notice the color difference and cause I was in a battle animation by the time I double checked, it despawned 🐸
Numerous patch fixes and they couldn’t even add one of the coolest things from legends arceus
I bothered completing the Pokedex for some reason. Considering that we got Legends Arceus in the same year as Scarlet and Violet, these games should have had more time in the oven. I hate how Legends Arceus only got one month in the spotlight.
You're my new favorite masochist
Legends Arceus absolutely deserves another chance. Like, give us a dlc that explains some unfinished lore and/or gives us Hisuian Meganium.
Dude saame i completed the dex cause it was the only thing i can do w/o the tower
@@CoralReaper707this probably won’t never happen, because LPA was no more than a tech-demo for the main line series
LA was so good it was on the list of being the best RPG of the year award for 2022.
I play SV but i dont enjoy it.
Laggy, lackluster animations, ugly character desing, stiff overworld.
Even SWSH i replayed the hell out of and had fun....why cant i enjoy this game?! Even the raids are worse now.....
You cannot blame Ilca for BDSP. Ilca just made the games, Masuda the old President of GF directed it. Blame that bastard Masuda!
What's even funnnier is that some idiots say the main reason why the game is bad is because of Nintendo , meanwhile Game Freak was there standing on the side
As long as the zombie consumers keeps purchasing these half baked games, gf wont change and keep up their mediocre work.
This is by far the worst Pokémon game I’ve ever played
As someone who played through Scarlet and Violet, its a game thats fun because of the concept, but after you complete the final battle with Sada you are left thinking what the hell did I just play through and why did I waste my money on this and why our current economic system is so bad, and how the heat death of the universe is in August 12th, 2036.
Pokemon died with the National Dex.
Considering the ridiculously high quality of the other games that the BDSP developers have worked on before and after that game, I would bet that Game Freak's management and restrictions rather than ILCA's abilities are what causes that game's problems.
There is no passion for making games in Gamefreak. I watched a video of a pair of brothers make a Pokémon game from scratch in a week and it looked better than SV. Lack of time is no longer an acceptable excuse for me, if anyone in Gamefreak cared about quality the game would not have been released in that state. Gamefreak literally wrote a rough draft and gave it to us. They are the problem and there is no defense that can make it less true.
I totally agree about Legends Arceus, I think theyre the best games we gotten in such a long time. And your sentiment about the catching mechanics making you “not want to go back to the older titles” is exactly how it should feel. Whereas now, I beat Scarlet and Violet, hate the game, and go back to the older era games to experience “real” pokemon when the new titles are supposed to make me want to keep playing them over the predecessor.
Arven's story felt... decent enough. The cutscene pace is just terrible in every single 3d Pokemon game, but I can't really fault the writing there, mostly the terrible medium its presented in. The OST point is completely fair, 100% agree its weaker than SwSh, but Toby Fox only ever does, like, one song in each game. He only did Tera Battle and Area 0's themes, and a single leitmotif for the soundtrack. The songs are pretty good, but that's about it.
You're literally telling information that not alot of us know about because a majority dropped the game 2 or 3 badges in tbh. You can argue till your blue in the face and I'll still assume you're just stupid for playing this game fully. Almost a year in and I refuse to play these games until they fix the performance and level scale the gyms which they can still do through a patch update. But since that won't happen I stopped playing these horrible games. Worst generation of Pokémon in all my 32 years of being around. And the worst year of Pokémon games ever. Hell I'd rather play let's go eevee than this hot garbage generation. Nothing about these games are fun it's a dumbed down remedial version of PLA PLA is still more fun I even restarted too feel the joy of Pokémon again.
@@brycetheobald5512 I only bothered to beat the Titans (the only new content in the game), and dropped the game immediately after because nothing else was fun. I also think the game sucks and PLA is better in every way.
I only know the facts because I did two minutes of googling. I called the story 'meh' and two songs 'above average'. Somehow you think I love the game because I didn't call every single aspect a crime against humanity.
Yeah, the character designs are really kinda unforgettable, but tbh, apart from the gym leaders, few of the early gen designs are memorable to me either.
i played the game for like a month after it came out, what was funniest to me was that the first few updates they had for the game wasn't to fix the performance, or the camera issues, or the glitches, but it was to remove an item duping glitch, the one thing NO ONE was complaining about except like verlisify (i still don't think they've fixed any of the glitches but I haven't touched the game in a while)
Just goes to show you where their true priorities lie...
@@1992holycrapI mean, when they started shiny locking in Gen 5 I think thats when it started going downhill...
@@suspiciousfigure3096 GameFreak are legitimately stupid for not only doing "shiny locking" in the first place, but prioritizing it over making actually finished & polished games.
@@1992holycrap yep, that and overlooking Pokemon Home. What I don't get is why they made Pokemon bank if you could transfer from Pokemon gen 4 to 5 with a mini game, and now suddenly you have to pay for a bank on the same platform with different graphics? I feel Pokemon bank was a prototype to how the Pokemon model was going to go about sapping the quality of games and holding your Pokemon hostage.
It's a bummer. I specifically bought Pokemon bank to transfer from ds to 3ds FOR FREE and now they're shutting it by April. I don't think I'll ever get another game unless it's of actual high quality in both story and game design, or is a remake of bw and pmd sky. That's it.
The 3D open-world games are awful. They need to stop. We lost more than we gained going 3D. X and Y were the last great Pokemon Games (Shining Pearl was good also imo)
10:06 This is actually untrue, as gamefreak has introduced sandwiches, making shinies so lacking in value to me (and possibly others), I was willing to trade one away. It literally takes more time to get the ingredients than catch the Pokémon, and while shiny Pokémon are cool… I kinda feel like making them so easy to get kinda trivializes them. Just a random small complaint.
Level scaling: Kill me.
Catching mechanics: I actually like the old school mechanics, but still agree here. Catching was getting worse and worse before Legends, and SV was a turn back to worse.
Graphics: Disagree, Legends has a lot of meh graphics but overall is the best looking Pokemon in the switch. The new textures in SV look fine in a vacuum but they all together and inside that ugly world look to me inconsistent and uncanny. Liked the main characters and npcs, femc is cute as always.
Story: It was cute, fine for Pokémon standards. You can't skip it though? That sucks.
Home: I don't know how GF operates, but what looks like a simple data export can go wrong very easily and take a lot of time: bureaucracy, teams locking each other with dependencies, edge cases, or the classic "you were supposed to deliver this a month ago and now you're expected to dedicate your time to do this other thing which is the new priority, but delivering the delayed product is also a priority", sigh, and then everything gets delayed even more.
Yhea I work on the field, 6 months sounds like a horrible yet believable case of corporate dumbness. I make it sound like companies are just dumb and inefficient, and that's half the truth, just keep in mind that there are concerns unique to customer facing environments that 24 hours projects done by college students never face. All of this just makes the next point... poignenter.
Gamefreak: If one person takes 100 days to build a wall, 100 people don't make it in one day. Maybe a pair of extra hands could help, but they need to either increase the development time or downscale the games more, maybe go back to 2d idk. As long as games are released this frequently we are getting no great game ever again unless is a fluke,
I only play retro pokemon games anymore and that’s really sad…
I think I've said it multiple times, some of them to you, BUT I think the game suffers from 3 massive issues.
1°: Being rushed due to TPCi demanding games way too often. I've said it before and I'll say it again, all of the 3 last main pokémon games are broken, it just happened that Scarlet/Violet is more broken, explaining a lot of the bugs and lack of polish, as well as the story feeling half-baked.
2°: GameFreak being awful at coding. They've never been good at making coding on videogames which is shown in gen 1 being incredibly broken. That explains more of the bugs, the bad visuals with lighting who could cause epilepsy and the bad performance. Also, it's likely you did not noticed those glitches because you weren't paying enough attention to them.
3°: GameFreak doesn't understand open world. The land of Paldea would be described at its best as ugly to see, devoid of content, incredibly unbalanced, obnoxious to travel and with tons of pop-offs; you know, the things an open world SHOULD NOT BE. Open world is not a open area, is a world with lots of interesting things to do at your will, which contradicts the level system if not worked properly. This explains the lack of level curve, the wild pokémon being obnoxious when traveling and the lack of content to do.
I really want to love pokémon, but this kind of game is just unacceptable.
For comparison, let's take a look at what a good pokémon game looks like, in BIack. I've been taking notes the last month of my experience with those games.
1°: The music changes in tone depending in a lot of factors, like mucisians, seasons or movement; There's even voice acting in Bridge village. This gives the games a very enveloping atmosphere.
2°: It's visually consistent, where living beings are in 2D and the envoriment is 3D. It's a bit choppy at times but it compensates with amazing landscapes and camera work to showcase their places.
3°: The plot was consistent and well thought. Most actions felt cohesive, the villains for the only time in pokémon felt like they were using actual psychology for them behaving like a cult, and it clearly understood how climaxes should be done with N and Ghechis being the final bosses instead of just the champion. The characters were incredibly likable as well and the non-generic NPCs felt like real people.
4°: The level curve was fine for the most part. A bit too easy between the 6th and 8th gym though before spiking in the league into a moderate difficulty, where the final boss is appropiately the hardest battle. The gyms were tough when not taking their weaknesses and even then it would get complicated at times as shown by Elesa's Emolgas or Lenora's Watchog, and the free lucky egg does not have a huge impact unless you're using a small team.
5°: The design of mons in Unova is a mix bag. I still think Emboar, Watchog, the monkeys, Conkeldurr, Garbodor, Gothita, Vanillite, Klink, Stunfisk and Seismitoad are ugly. That being said, I've also noticed that for each one of them there's something amazing like Serperior, Excadrill, Krookodile, Reuniclus, Haxorus, Volcarona, Galvantula, Eelektross, Chandelure, Golurk, America or Hydreigon. A truly mixed bag.
6°: The game, while linear, had enough motives to go outside the intended route, like a Fossil, a TM, a valuable item or an overpowered cute green dragon.
7°: The cutscenes felt oddly short. Everything was kinda going at the point and definitely helped that N talks very fast. It only got long if you tried to read them which is good but also meant it demanded attention to not lose key moments.
8°: Places seem quite gimmicky... which is great because it gives variety to your gameplay. route 4 has dark sand, relic castle has quicksand, route 7 demands you to move precisely on a small path, you can rotate NPCs in the celestial tower, bikers and ciclists move faster when you run, route 17 has strong tides, you have to slide down the hill in victory road and some places change drastically depending on the season. It doesn't feel like they're using the full potential of them though.
9°: The game is short. It took me 21 hours to beat and that's with a lot of unorganized backtracking, beating every single trainer available and collecting almost everything. If i had to guess why it's because routes are relatively short.
10°: The post game is odd, in a good way. It feels like there's not a lot of things to do and at the same time there's a lot of content, and the very beginning demand a lot of knowledge to surpass but slowly the opponents improve as much as you do, as well as weird challenges like that rich family. Not very well balanced though but it's to be expected and I rather have complications at the beginning than a cakewalk after the middle point.
11°: Lots of staple TMs were realocated into the post game, which had the weird effect in the viability of certain creatures. Most notably, it made Ice types (aka Vannilite) good in the adventure, volt switch users amazing, setup sweepers due to moxie, work up or swords/dragon dance by level great, fast supports quite bad and Water not as amazing as they usually are because of being walled by grass and dragon.
12°: There's a serious issue of a lack of item availability, most notably berries because they though it was a good idea to remove berry trees. While Rangers and sidequests give you the most basic ones of healing health and statuses, there's a serious lack of EV reducing berries or resistance ones. Gems, while available, their obtention is the definition of grind.
13°: The QoL are very appreciated, most notably not having to worry about using TM or having pokémon centers be an all-in-one building which reduced a significant downtime. The economy left a bit to be desired though considering I have nothing to use the 2 million pokedollars i got from postgame through treasures.
14°: Late evolutions are very obnoxious. I can live with some of them like Crustle, Archeops, Jellicent or even Amoonguss, and they're even justifiable on Fraxure, Lampent, Ferrothorn and Darmanitan due to how OP they're in their final form, but some are just ridiculous like Mienshao, Hydreigon, Bisharp, Volcarona, America or Mandibuzz, specially hydreigon who doesn't even evolve to Zweilous up to level 50. Also, there's no Zorua/Zoroark available to you which is a bummer.
All in all, a solid game with easily improvable mistakes and concepts, which is what they did in the sequel, and I unsurprisingly consider those sequels the best pokémon game up until now because of that.
1. How is the story half-baked, it's the best in the franchise and one of the few good ones at that
2. In this case, those things I don't notice don't affect me anyway so it doesn't matter
3. The open world is passable, and still improves the experience by being a passable open world
@@N12015I ain’t taking Seismitoad slander.
@@aubueruser7228I feel like seismotoad shouldve been given a mustache for some extra personality like Whiscash
Whats crazy is games like dragonquest have similiar mechanics, and yet their open worlds are fantastic. GF clearly needs new blood and / or lots of outside help
pokemon games shouldnt have release dates so they can spend time on them, game freak worst company, if any other company owned pokemon i think it probably had a slight chance to be better than tears of the kingdom
The fact that the shinies in the overworld don't play a sound effect is homophobic.
Funniest comment yet lol
I really hope the Pokemon Legends Z-A will have all the successful mechanics from previous games, I mean they are bringing the megas back from the dead, they have to be listening to their fans right? ether way if they screw up, Palworld is my new Pokemon franchise from there on
Tbh I don't think tera should be banned it should be shown. The problem is that we are treating it like an item or one type thing when it's basically a different type. Types are something to be known on a Pokemon.
Imagine how frustrating it would be if we couldn't tell what type Arceus or Rotom are. You could guess but ultimately they are going to get their jobs done without the opponent getting time to plan or counter.
Something like espartha wouldn't be as powerful if you know what terra it has. You wouldn't waste your own teras on a wrong tera prediction and etc. Fighting + psychic or psychic + fairy wouldn't be a guessing game and you can play accordingly.
Reasonable take. I just don't like mudding bans. Granted, given how VGC did it, I wouldn't be too opposed to trying it in singles.
@@Aidenkun64 And if it's still broken then you can justify banning it. It's all about knowing what is truly broken, if it's the lack of knowledge, the mechanic or gen 9 being just incredibly overpowered to the point Garchomp isn't even that good.
Playing Tears of the Kingdom only reinfores my hatred for these games.
i didn't like botw or totk i don't really like open world games unless they are like gta where you can do actually anything you want including driving a car inside the bowling alley and punching people.
Pokemon scarlet and violet is BULLSHIT . I'd rather play nexomon extinction instead of the triple a garbage
I'm fully convinced that the closest we'll ever get to a proper Pokemon home console experience is Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, there's no way Game Freak is ever topping a 20 year old ass Gamecube game
The only hope I have for Pokémon is that the gen 5 remakes to be a revolutionary War "Legends: Kyurem" with deviations from Arceus' dex, being a completely different region after all.
That game will be hype af when it comes out
Every complaint video never talks about Scarlet and Violet lacking the Ikue Ohtani voiceover for Pikachu (something that’s been happening since XY). I know many fans prefer an actual cry instead of Ohtani’s lines but on the contrary, I prefer for it to stick to how it’s been since XY because of Masuda’s words.
Not the worst, because BDSP exist.
They should've kept legends mechanics. Could've added mini games or something for the union circle. Add some puzzles that we need certain Pokemon types to accomplish. Like a flying type to reach something high, a fire type to burn something..etc. its a lot they can do with open world pokemon.
both games developed at the same time no way they could keep what wasn't even done yet
The most tragic thing about these games is that they're SO close to being great.
Better trainer customization (Don't force me to play as a damed 6 year old with clown pants)
Building interiors
Dungeons
Any post game. At all.
All of those things were missing, and it drags the rest of the experience down. And it's a shame because the rest of the game is genuinely good. I had a great time running through the story. Shame it ends so quickly and there's absolutely nothing left for you afterwards.
And side quests too
I like the longer form content and think this is a great video. I hope it preforms well and we can get more. Keep creating. And ill keep watching.
I wasted more hours than I'd like to admit on this awful shite. The new Pokemon designs I do like quite a bit (Kingambit was the perfect continuation to one of my favourites) but that BARELY saves the games. They should have dropped their November release schedule for this one and released it in February or something. But nope, that would never happen, because this company doesn't give a shit about the games' quality anymore. It's all just for the money now.
Also, I cannot believe I ever thought spending real money on Pokemon Home was a good idea. I don't think I'll be giving Game Freak any more of my money. I refuse to support a company that cares this little. If I even bother with future Pokemon games (which will likely only happen if Level-5 doesn't release a new Yo-kai Watch game in the west before that, but hey, at least we got 3 insanely high quality games and don't have to worry about the company fumbling the bag like GF), I'll be getting them second-hand.
I have never actually played a pokemon game, as a kid I watched the show and thought it would be cool but didn't have a nintendo device to play the games on. I just played on battle simulators starting in gen 5.
So how did you get here?
@@notscorchingsands9718 I watch Aides’ videos on competitive and thought that a video from him about one of the actual games would be interesting.
Pretty good video overall. While I did enjoy my time with S/V, I am getting concerned with the future of the series if games keep getting bigger in scope but keep getting scheduled for release at the same breakneck pace, things are not going to get better. I don't know how much voting with your wallet is going to matter in this, since Pokemon is one of the most popular franchises of all time and the games are going to sell well regardless, but if there is a mainline Pokemon game releasing between now and the end of 2024, I'm not going to buy it since I don't like this crunch time that's been going on.
Let's be honest we probobly would still by another rushed out main line game if it came out before 2024 simply because it's pokemon.
yeah its terrible
- empty world, audience gaslit themselves into thinking good cause they can see mons in it ,seeing mons doesn't make it better than the old style but something is lost in that old style that's been gone in modern poke for a long time now
- so many cut corners to any animation, scene, moment in this game (anything requiring movement, cut to black then cut back) game has so many work arounds to processes (tiny pokeball items at doors and spaces to trigger an event than just doing it normally)
- lack of content, no real post game (no online fights don't count even raids as that's possible all throughout despite higher ones later in post game) elite 4 is a joke, champion is a nobody again (diantha), no actual victory road
- the 3 stories is just a non starter ( its the same one story just divided, nothing's changed but the illusion of choice)
and its a technical mess, STOP BUYING BROKEN GAMES - one is not beholden to a brand to buy every one of its shit titles, learn to skip for once, and most importantly if you stream game or make content as a job or such DON"T BUY EVEN THEN, that's how u get change, buy not being a mindless sheep "its still pokemon" isn't true in the slightest, nothing reminds me of it in this game - not gameplay, exp, pacing, structure, mons, design or world would remind one of pokemon, just surface level traits
don't accept less, demand better of the biggest brands in the world
Gen 8 and 9 are trash, Legends Arceus is one of the only modern Pokémon games I enjoy. They should kept that catching mechanic from Legends, the battling before catching just don't fit in a Open World game and takes up to much time when you could of used that time to explore. Level Scaling would of helped to be honest, because what if you wanna start at the 8th gym without getting demolished? So much for freedom Gamefreak.
Wolfie's audience is under the impression that smogon is this fringe metagame that came after VGC, I don't care much for the guy. His views towards singles often come off as him not wanting people to take their eyes away from his being the champion, hence his videos bashing singles in terms of it's difficulty (not very difficult from his pov) and competitiveness. Mind you it's not like he plays.
Sword and shield works much better for me but scarelet and violet is an buggy mess i have floors or the sea just unloaded in general .... my favorite time was in an trainer battle they both turned invisible in me then half the floor vanished too .... next game that comes out i wait for youtube first too see if it works any better ........ wont be bothering with the dlc
Mostly agree with you, but shiny hunting in this game is not bad. You just need to look more carefully. And sandwitches (non shiny odds boosting that is) make it way easier to hunt for a specific pokemon. I do agree that LA was a way better game though, really hope we’ll get another one.
I dunno, I once nearly missed out on a shiny vigoroth if I hadnt realized how odd the "lighting" on it was compared to the others. Theres a lot of pokemon with similar coloring to the original and for some who want a full shiby dex, it can be very taxing to keep a keen eye
Hey man love the video! Love all the detail and I am amazed by how much passion you have for Pokémon shout out to you! but if the script was just a lil more focused it would be pushed to the next level!
What is the song that is playing around the 8 minute mark? I used to listen to it so much as a child and have forgotten it's name :(

Swsh and SVs DLC are only good for people who already enjoy the base games. They don't really fix anything. Just add more of what they think we already love
Isn't that what most dlc is?
@@notscorchingsands9718 probably. Lol. But most DLCs (at least from what I've seen) have way more to offer than what the latest pokemon games usually give us
@@GroundBack Mario never die kart 8 deluxe probably will get another of old tracks. Also emerald and platinum are dlc pretty much but everyone is fine with them.
Ngl some of the stuff from SwSh dlc should’ve been in the game from the start, such as the ability patch and ev resetter
Virgin Pokémon: Releases yearly unfinished garbage everyone buys anyways.
Chad Mario: Releases fewer games that are actually finished that everyone buys.
I think, even with all of this, I still have hope for gamefreak and future pokemon games. BDSP had me worried, because it felt like a regression, but with S/V and moreso Legends Arceus, it shows that Gamefreak still does new things, they haven't lost that special spark of what makes pokemon good.
I do agree that the time limit shouldn't excuse pokemon s/v being a bad game, but I still hold hope for whatever game comes next, because gamefreak hasn't given up trying. Some game companies would stagnate if they where in gamefreaks position, but gamefreak has been changing the games, improvements have been coming.
So, we can only hope that gamefreak can have the time to make something truly great, because they still have it in them.

Thank you bro I’ve been saying this forever I beat the game in 5 days like months ago I tried to get back on and it made me depressed it’s so sad to see what my childhoods favorite franchises quality fall so much and everyone just so content with it
I only made it to 2 or 3 badges months ago, and stopped playing it the Pokémon designs are dogwater, the characters lack different reactions mainly reuse the same interactive styles. The only good thing is the scales, fur etc added to the Pokémon. Pokémon is dead sadly thats the harsh reality that people need to wake up too.

I couldn't bring myself to buy the game new. I didn't wanna reward bad behaviour. I bought the game second hand yesterday and I'm 2 hours in. I'm enjoying it just fine, but it's a significant downgrade from PLA. It's also one of the ugliest games I've ever played, and can't be excused for a 2022 game. I wasn't in a hurry to buy this after Sw/Sh, even though I do enjoy the latter game. I certainly won't be in a hurry to buy the next Pokémon game.
Really entertaining video! Love the mix of the valid criticisms and completely unhinged moments here lol. I never played gen 9 outside of Showdown (which I didn’t really like with tera and all but it’s ok) cause it just didn’t interest me. Glad some people are still able to enjoy the games even if the series has fallen out of my favor lately.
Anyway this is all to say I’m salty all my favorites were DexCut so there wasn’t any reason for me to play the casual game.
I 100% agree with this commentary. I love Pokemon too, but I can't in good faith ignore these issues. I enjoyed Sword and Shield enough but I couldn't even finish Scarlet and Violet. ive always finished pokemon games. I couldn't do it. it was too bad of a game. Gen 10 either rectifies this situation or im done.
Pokemon Scarlet definitely has a lot of flaws.
Legend Arceus was still below average for a Triple A title from a triple a studio. 😅 And the Credits from Legends and S/V are close to identical, so I don't think there are two seperate teams.. and this is more sad.
To be honest I had a alot of fun with Violet. But fun don't mean this game is good in any way.
pokemon home is especially bad because it's a paid subscription. for 6 months, you were paying for a service that you cant even use!
Duh.
Games, for the most part, aren't made to be fun anymore. They are made to sell copies.
There are many ways to sell copies. Being a "good game" is all things considered, a very poor way to accomplish that goal. Because "being good" cannot happen till the copy is already sold. So for a franchise with the clout of Pokemon, making a good game is really the least of their priorities. So long as it isn't so bad that nobody buys from them anymore, it will have accomplished it's purpose
If it helps I could launch a nuke at every single one of pokemon’s Scarlet and Violet’s defenders (well just the toxic ones)
I remember hearing people talk about how it would be cool if Monolith (the developers of the Xenoblade series) should take over Pokemon. My knee-jerk reaction is "no I don't want them getting caught up in Gamefreak's bullshit." But I'll definitely say that Xenoblade X is basically everything I could possibly want from a Pokemon game. And now that I'm thinking on it, I think Xenoblade 3's combat system could genuinely be translated into a Pokemon-style game, even if doing so would horrifically disrupt PvP. All of that's to say, it's a shame that such an iconic series is being handled in such a shit way. It's not just them that could absolutely outclass gamefreak. I'd personally be happy giving the Octopath devs a go at it too. Even if I didn't particularly like Octopath Traveller, the game's still got heart in there. Hell, the majority of fan games outclass gamefreak in terms of competency. I think every fan game that I've played has something that it outclasses Gamefreak on. And I mean no disrespect to any individuals who worked on the games. If anything, I kinda want Pokemon to fall off because it would give room for more passionate monster collection games to have less monolithic competition and perhaps catch on since I think that's healthier and I don't really care for Gamefreak's work on the series.
i read somewhere that monolith even offered to help with SV and GF denied it because they didn't want to split profits or something along those lines
i just think pkmn has always had these kind of problems, the only thing is that the switch games being bigger had those problemas being more in the spotlight
There is some great aspects to SV i like the story and characters Pneumonia and Arven are some of my favourite rivals in the series and the new pokemon are great but the flaws are so insanely huge and it's such a massive downgrade on Legends Arceus that i can't ignore them i genuinely wonder if the people defending SV blindly have played anything other than Pokemon because there are so many games on switch with great graphics, animations and voice acting that absolutely put Pokemon to shame
Mm, Pneumonia. My favorite Pokémon Antagonist.

I don't mind going back from the Legends Arceus Catch mechanic. I liked it, but didn't necessarily need it in the main game. I agree, there should be actual side quests and rewards for side quests.
Just gonna pop this in here, SV story-wise wasn't too bad, but with Gamefreak rushing their shit, they have to give us "DLC" for $30~$40 (this is really just the postgame material that they didn't have time to complete while they were developing the game) making SV and SwSh $90+ dollar games when they look and play like they should be $35. If Gamefreak actually took their time like the Zelda or Mario devs for example (having about a 4-6 year development cycle as opposed to 10-15 MONTHS) I think we'd have way higher quality games. The fact that we were straight up lied to about Dexit, as the models are STILL from the 3DS era killed the franchise for me. I'm not upset that they were reused, don't get me wrong. I'm upset because we were told that the reason we couldn't have all the pokemon available to us in-game when SwSh was being released was due to them needing to remake the models from scratch. Also, all their clips that said "game footage not final" was also a straight up lie, as SwSh looked pretty shit when they came out. Sure there are some areas that look good (and I say good with a grain of salt) but for the most part the games DEFINITELY could look and preform much much MUCH better. How can the switch have games like BotW and TotK, and then you look at what the pokemon company is doing for their "open world" game which has no level scaling, barely any customization (in SV) and somehow WORSE animations than their previous title, pokemon legends Arceus..???? To add insult to injury, there are somehow less customization options in SV than there are in SwSh. Hopefully they'll learn that games need an actual development cycle, and to take their time so pokemon games can feel like pokemon games again. IMO the last great games were HGSS and ORAS (even tho they got rid of the battle frontier from ORAS, and had the fucking audacity to say "Battle Frontier coming soon" at the battle resort) but I digress. Apparently my criticisms are too much to ask for according to the mindless generation of Pokemon fans. Very disappointing.
And even until now, they don't plan to fix the performance which we so badly needed. They will release the DLC first so they can get more money.
I think the characters, some of the designs, and the openness of the world are absolutely cool things. That being said; there are glitches (even though I luckily have not encountered any glaring ones), the open world doesn't allow us to choose the gym order, and the shinies are atrocious. The top 4 and especially the Champ are underwhelming.
Dude I LOVE pre-patches cyberpunk the game!
I really have no opinions about the game itself, as I don't have a Switch and thus can't play it. However that doesn't mean I have no opinions, though most of them are the basic opinions of the community. The glitches tho, they're hilarious. Completely unacceptable, but really funny. SV seems like a game that would have been excellent with just another year or so, but that didn't happen unfortunatly.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm...
Honestly its the community’s fault, had we not shunned the developers during black and white we could’ve had so much better games instead of game freak thinking the only thing we would like is nostalgia bait
what makes me so sad is that the community call it a "fantastic game" because it has some semblance of fun gameplay. YOUR GAME ISN'T GOOD IF IT IS POORLY MADE NO MATTER HOW FUN IT MIGHT BE
Minus story and characters if you payed any attention this is probably the worst in the series, i mean it.
Biggest fumble yet, what were they thinking?
Where do you watch those visual novels/anime?
The only VN I've played is Clannad which I got on Switch. I want to play more like Steins;Gate, but I also want to finish Clannad first
What are those other visual novels/anime?
My exact feeling put into video
It just makes me sad that Pokemon is going to keep getting worse and worse all because of the greed of their slimy overlords at The Pokemon Company...
I have no desire to touch the DLC for Scarlet/Violet, even if they are bringing back my boy Furret.
Paradox and Convergent Pokémon have ruined the series for me. Shit has gotten too fucking gimmicky. And now these useless Pokémon will always be in the Pokédex. It's not like we can get rid of these Pokémon like how we left behind Mega Evolution and Z-Moves. And I hate these names. They're just two words with no stylization to them.
Names like "Seel" are far better than these. Because at least what you see is what you get. But this just feels dumb.
Robot Tyranitar shouldn't be it's own Pokémon. It's more of a Pokéstar studios opponent or a Team Rocket invention.
Also, Gen 1 can DEFINITELY be played without coming across glitches if you're not looking for them. Gen 8 and 9 are the games where they become more common imo.
Also imo Legends Arceus added too many steps to catching and the tutorial never fucking ends. These games get bigger and they ironically feel more limiting. It's too much. I feel like the games were the perfect size from gens 3 to 6.
Well put.
I can’t stand playing more than 5 minutes of scarlet and violet… it’s just so boring and mind-numbingly hand holding. You play the whole story for 10% of the content. Also, don’t get me started on the Pokémon that’s a literal car 😂🤦♂️
0:35 just started the vid but holy shit this brought me back. One of my favorite memories from the Wii
Same. Pokepark 2 is a masterpiece
Honestly at this point there is one personal motto I stick to. New pokemon games aren't bad, many are actually extremely well made, however none of the good ones are made by gamefreak. Pokemon is still a good franchise as long as you don't play the official games.
I can't with this part of the pokemon fandom
scarlet and violet broke me.
i replayed sword and shield countless times, i've even done a nuzlocke on it once!
i loved pokemon through thick and thin, even if the games were... mid at best. but SV? no. i lost it at SV.
even at the series low points i stuck around. but this? i havent even beaten it yet. and i usually finish pokemon games relatively in a week after starting them.
Do you want Pokémon to abandon progress and be like Temtem? A live service game moving forward worked so well with anthem and Redfall
Tbh pokrmon would benefit from scrapping the open world ot just make that the safari zone type place, allowing the exp share to be turned off if you don't want to use it, make arcus a hole separate thing and leave the catching in that game in that game, get rid of the over world pokemon they make the game run like crap and kill the fun. That and maybe just focus on two story lines at most the evil team and your journey. That would make me come back that and give us back the national dex but that dont care at all aboutvthe last one they have shown that time and time again.
Btw for the dexit. They got all pokemon in the 3ds games.
goes without saying STOP BUYING THESE GAMES
- quality improves when people improve their standard, buying only makes them complacent to their mediocrity with no incentive to grow
i played every pokemon game since red and blue i gave up on violate because its just bad there are 0 puzzels i really hate it
I put 15 hours in this game and had it since launch, i doubt i’ll get more then that. Not getting the dlc either, i put 140 hours in pokemon sword which i still think is better.
Its sad that Pokemon Crystal Clear *(a Game Boy Color hack)* is a better open-world Pokemon game than S/V
People who aren't Pokemon fans every generation: Pokemon This/That are the worst games ever made!
Pokemon fans every generation: Pokemon This/That are the best worst games ever made!
Seriously. Literally the only thing holding this game back from being a 10/10 for me is the performance. Every gen, I can tell Game Freak has lots of love for the series, but is now severely limited by corporate overlords expecting strict adherence to a tight release schedule where the new game is on shelves at precisely the moment he old one stops selling so much, all because the level in their money bins is one micron below the line.
I actually really enjoyed playing scarlet, more than any other pokemon game actually, but that was for a very specific set of reasons
1. I was playing on an emulator. This is why I didnt experience any of the performance issues while playing and I could actually upscale the resolution to make the game look sharper, which definitely made the game less frustrating to play
2. I didn't experience any glitches. I don't know if this is because i was using an emulator or not but i simply didn't experience any major or close to major glitches in the game. The closest thing to a glitch that happened to me was when trees in the background randomly popped in and out of existence during cutscenes, which is excusable.
3. My pokemon were all underleveled for all the major battles of the game. This made the game actually difficult and i needed to make actual strategies to beat the major fights of the game.
4. I'm not really the type of guy to catch em' all, so many of the catching and shiny concerns didn't bother me as much as it would for someone else.
Also, i enjoyed how open world the game was, but it definitely needs level scaling for the major fights if it wants to be truly free. I'm not saying the game is perfect, far from it, I'm just saying that you can enjoy any game under the right circumstances, no matter how objectively bad it is.
I can't see the numbers 252, 255, 404, 414, 328, 331. 350, 353, or 383 in public
honestly i've decided to like pokemon games based on how much fun i have while playing them and nothing more than that because i just think none of them are actually that good? they're generally *fun* games but not so much *good* games imo.
and that being said Scarlet was actually one of the games I enjoyed playing through the most even despite all of its issues (and the fact that I got it like two weeks early and dropped it because the performance issues were too much, even for me)
I may be biased bc I live in Spain and I like Pokémon but I found SV fun, pretty much. The new Pokémon designs are to me some of the best in a generation - maybe Gen 9 is the best one in terms of Pokémon designs. And for once, it was a Pokémon game that actually brought characters that I care about.
I do wish there was level scaling and I hope they bring it to the next game since it's clear the structure that SV follows will be the standard for the game. I don't think stuff like shiny hunting is really an issue though... and disregarding the story just because it's Pokémon - or a video game - makes me feel like these games aren't for everyone and that it's completely acceptable to just not play them lol; *even if* none of the stories in these games are actually good! (except Gen 7's)
I feel like PLA's animations aren't as bad as people make them out to be and imo Pokémon are animated better than before in Scarlet and Violet but the moves definitely lost a lot in that regard
Being completely honest I'm not too sure that Competitive Singles should be brought up as a criticism for these games because they aren't made with 6v6 singles in mind. VGC on the other hand has been tiptoeing between very good and very bad this generation so far and if it had been brought up beyond accessibility, I would definitely understand the point.
I disagree on the point of SwSh not being a fundamentally terrible game but I also think IoA and CT were improvements to the games in that they're pretty much the only content I'd call not-bad in those games. I don't think they're a fix per se - being charged $30 for them is egregious - but I personally feel like Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra are the best experiences Sword and Shield have to offer. As for SV's DLC, it will likely be better than the base game but not only will it present the same flaws, but it also won't fix the base game's issues, very much like Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra did for its predecessor.
EDIT: Something that I do think is a genuine objective flaw of these games is how they're like "there's an option to skip cutscenes" but unlike many games you have to turn it on in the settings first and then it only allows you to skip like three things in the entire game. If Kirby of all things can let you press + on any cutscene and dialogue scene to skip them entirely, why not Pokémon??
All in all I think this is a very bleak and overexaggerated viewpoint on the franchise. Game Freak, and the Pokémon series as a whole, has *always* been very volatile. Let's not pretend PLA wasn't one of the best games in the series, let's not pretend Sun and Moon were bad (unless you're a VGC player then you're completely valid in having this opinion tbh), let's not pretend Diamond and Pearl don't exist... Of course, all of that is subjective. But to think one bad game - for some, but I think it's relevant here - that came out in the same year as a very good game - also for some, but again, relevant here - means that every game will be bad from now on, has always, always been so weird to me.
Obviously there's also the folks that are like "there hasn't been a single good pokemon game since HGSS/BW" and I just can't help but feel like the series is not for them and I never understood why people are so bitter about Pokémon games "not being as good as they used to be" bc to me it just screams a really weird kind of brand loyalty
gen 7 story is so underrated.
Bitch about it
I finally got more into this game after a year, I enjoy it as a shiny hunter enough, but when the frames drop the entire game goes to like half speed or worse it's nuts, get used to seeing through ground and walls frequently, my recent shiny was half inside a wall, i was lucky it was out as far as it was.
sun and moon are my favorite games in the franchise because uhhh uhhmmmm uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I like them a lot too. I just can't replay them lol
perhaps, we as a collective should try out new things
I play hand-held, and Lag wasn't that bad, and I enjoyed exploring no matter how janky it was
Yeah same I only played it for the Pokémon I never gived
I never actually had lag and maybe its because I just bought a switch and the game at the same time, hm.
SV is the product of a poorly executed well-developed idea
After playing and enjoying legends Arceus for 120 hours and then gen 9 was announced, I realized legends arceus was supposed to be a sort of tech demo, but then ScaVi came out, and I realized how big of a step down ScaVi is to legends Arceus, and now i don't know what to think of legends Arceus anymore. Gen 9 made me appreciate gen 8 more, but in a very negative way
Am I a brainwashed, boot-licking Wooloo for liking SV?
