Back when the Game Commission actually cared about Pennsylvanian animals and inhabitants and didn't put a dollar on everything an outdoorsman can touch. Excellent video, and I truly appreciate every moment of watching this
Pennsylvania has a lot of black bears. They really began expanding their range in the 1990's. What I'm really interested in are mountain lions in Pennsylvania.
Yes. I also am interested to know how many cougars are roaming Pa . I was told they say there isn’t any in Pa. But let me just say. There has been multiple sightings in the Pocono and surrounding areas off the mountain. I do believe they’re around my neck of the woods.
@@MelissaM-lo5hi don’t ever believe people that tell you they “aren’t around” I literally live in a suburban area in Massachusetts and we have bobcat and mountain lion sightings multiple times per year
Your map of bear range needs a slight update. Here in Erie County, they are plentiful. But we didn't make the range map. Nice informative video though :)
I think the video is 30+ years old. It definitely would be very interesting to see the current range of black bears in Pennsylvania and compared to this old map.
Why dont they produce educational films today...they eliminated the manuel....even more of a need. Pa needs an "ask the officer" segment..where game officers answer questions and dismss myths.....other states have done this...it costs nothing...in harrisburg dollars and establishes a repoir with like minded conservationists.
For those who don't know. Gary Alt did a truly fantastic job with the black bears in PA. Not only in his study and correcting may misconceptions but also rebuilding the herd to the size it is today. In my opinion he also did a great job with deer management before he retired.
Great info and production. It be awesome to have documentaries like this on all animals, every time I go in the woods I would be able to understand the signs that the animals leave behind and know that they’re there even though I can’t see them.
I live in Erie county near the Crawford county line. The corner of PA that you say doesn't have black bears. We do have them. Raiding bird feeders, garbage cans and anything else they can find
Look how gorgeous is that beer is oh my God that little baby for teddy bear love black bears that doesn't mean I want them for a pet just too wild and you still got to keep your guards up on them but I prefer black bears over grizzly bears any day
Yes, black bears are very very tasty.. it's nice to know where the bears are at..most all u.s. states have black bears 🐻🐻🐻. Like to eat a grizzly bear now..I seen a Kodiak grizzly bear standing on back feet, his head was way up there at about 9 or 10 feet tall..
I always heard bears taste like what they eat like if you kill a bear in a junk yard it won't taste as good as ones that eat berries and meat and keeping a healthy diet
start telling me when they put mountain lions in pa i saw three cause i found out when they did - but black bears there not around my house for sure once in blue moon we have one or two time in a year - past three yrs nothing found in armstrong county lines
the truth , that its true i see it out in the woods go away i study this stuff over and over everyday i dont see pgc out in the woods- ive see cougars it not very nice without a cage
God says only kill what you're gonna eat. I understand a lot of hunters want licenses but I think it's cruel to kill any wild animal. If it's not for food and it's just for fun. I saw a beautiful black bear coming to our mobile home park. But it was kind, it didn't bother it. Walked right past cats and nobody bothered it. I don't think anybody should shoot a bear if it's not violent, and it's not causing any damage. Or you don't need it for food, then. Leave it alone cause God says. Only kill what you're gonna eat, including deer.
I NOTICE THATHAT WHEN YOU GRAB THE 3 DAY OLD CUBS FROM THEIR DENS, YOU DO NOT USE GLOVES SO THERE IS NO HUMAN SCENT ON THE CUBS. WOULD THE MOTHER THEN KILL HER CUBS WITH HUMAN SCENT???
These people will never answer here.. so stop 🛑 asking questions....I think it is cruel in a way. Because ,what if the bear grows or swells up for some reason, with that tight collar around there neck, they could be choked to death 💀 This is sad..
Great info and video. However I do suggest an updated video would be great. Lots of things have changed in the past 30 hrs since this video was made. It is a very informative video though. I’ve learned a lot . I am a faithful watcher of the.. hdontap.. live cam site. Thanks for bringing that to us . You PGC and the dontap guys do a excellent job in allowing us to view these animals in their habitat. Much joy in watching. So thanks for all you guys do!
I have this and the deer and elk videos on vhs from mid 2000s.... Glad to find this on youtube. Great for my kids with homeschooling.
As stated...time for an updated video. This is useful and I am using it in my PA Nature class for high school students.

They do produce educational films today! They are just buried under all the other content and are done by one person.
excellent job. thanks
Awesome video!

I love this got to go with Dr Alt on a collar change out.
I am not a biologist but you might want to make a hammock to weigh the bear alot of pressure put on paws tendons joints. What you think?
Oh no wee cant feel it

Great video. I love UA-cam and pretty much don't watch regular 📺
Very interesting! Does Dr. Gary Alt need an assistant? I would love a job like that!
Believe he's out west now guiding Grizzly Bear trips but i could be wrong.
Beautiful and majestic creatures I saw a little baby one hit by a car on the side of the rode

I didn't know Pennsylvania had bears until recently.
I can't believe how tiny a new born baby bear is!! Wow!
This is literally the foremost research on black bears ever. Peerless methods.
Coyotes been bad in Perry County, need a video on that
Wow so much information in one video, amazing.
Black bears are smart, too smart for their own good sometimes

My daughter just bought a house in Ligonier pa and the 3rd day this week a black bear came into the yard . Now I’m terrified . Help lol
i wanted to know about the calif bears where i live
I'm pretty sure that cub needs more warmth than a couple of bare hands.

such beautiful animals. As a hunter, I could never bring myself to shoot one unless its for defense.

Actually no, they would Yankees them to a creek and give them a very good bath
science is weird
it is
I know they will be shot ...I can't watch this ...bring a camera -enjoy them -don't kill em'!
stfu, you wouldnt feel the same if they attacked your child or ate your crops which fed your family from the profits.
