Autism and ADHD are not "chronic diseases", but neurodevelopmental disorders/conditions, which people are born, grow up, and die with and which form a large part of our personality. Neurodevelopmental disorders are not diseases, for the same reason blindness, deafness, and paraplegia are not. They are disabilities. Furthermore, the term "Asperger Syndrome" is outdated and increasingly rejected by autistic community. The current term for it is "autism spectrum disorder with support level 1", or simply "level 1 autism".
And for some of us, autism is not even disabling, and yet, it is still classified as a disability, which makes it frustrating to try and get a proper diagnosis!
@@ChelleLlewes Autism spectrum is disabling in some way for every autistic people, since impairments such as struggling to socialize among non-autistic people and understand nonverbal communication are mandatory for the diagnosis of autism to be possible. Furthermore, autism is a disability not only biologically speaking, but also socially, since all autistic people has their impairments aggravated when faced with social barriers and ableism and when they do not have access to inclusive support. The classification of ASD as a disability cannot prevent autistics from getting a diagnosis, since the diagnosis is essential to improve the autistic's quality of life and enable their access to specialized therapies and disability rights.
