To me, Peter the Great, as well as all of the Kirov-Class, are some of the most beautiful ships to ever sail, a close second to the Yamato-class. Could stick a few more guns on there though.
I don't think you could efficiently. I mean you can stick a gun without the ammo load and the whole under deck part but that would be decoration. under the deck they don't have enough space for more weapons or loaders. if they had they'd use it for more refrigirators for more autonomy at sea or fuel for generators/helos or ammo.
well, as we are speaking of russians, i'm sure someone has considerd sticking some tank turrets to the deck, like they did with their river monitors (although i do agree with kirov being second to the yamato, i wouldnt say its in terms of beauty, but in terms of raw destructive power, i think in terms of looks many whips actually beat the yamato, richellieu, dunkerque, scharnhorst, bismarck, or even hood do outshine the yamato, when it comes to aesthetics, but thats just my opinion)

This looks like a really impressive ship. It seems to have everything you would want to win a war. The Russians seem to have made the ultimate battle ship. However, remember the Bismark. All it took was one torpedo from an obsolete wood and canvas aircraft to disable her; and then a fleet of minor destroyers and other ships systematically reduced her to a hulk on the bottom of the sea. Also, remember the Yamoto. So it would seem that the moral of the story is not to put all your eggs into one basket. The cockroaches of the sea will get you.
I could almost see the British Royal Navy wheeling out its WW2 Swordfish torpedo bombers from the museum and redeploying them again on its new carriers as an effective counter against the Russian Kirov class nuclear cruiser.
Bismarck and Yamato did not have on board the s-300, sonar, torpedoes and helicopters against submarines. Your comparison failed. Yet Kirov is protected from all sides, from the air, on the water and under water.
Technically it could: 1 P-700 with a nuclear warhead the deal is done. nothing anyone can do vs a 3.5km radius ball of fire, EM Pulse and nuclear waste (if nothing else, no electronics will be operational after that).
I can't wait to see what Admiral Nakhimov (hopefully I spelt the name right) looks like after extensive modernisation. Then when Pyotr Veliky goes for her turn, she might be equipped even better with the S-500 batteries, although that's just an assumption. In any case, these two warships are already amazing, they should be serving maybe 2 more decades until Russia can roll out out of their shipyards the hefty Lidar class stealth destroyer-cum-cruiser or whatever class of warships they're called. They don't need aircraft carriers. They just need to be bullies in their own turf.
manutdhater, in the fall of last year, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation said that the Admiral Nakhimov would return to service in 2022. According to rumors, he will receive 80 universal cells for cruise missiles including Onyx, Caliber and hypersonic Zircon, and possibly up to 120 cells for the naval version of the S-400 and S-500 air defense / missile defense systems. A powerful ship will turn out. I also want to see this monster :)

The Kalibr and Oniks have already been demonstrated in combat against ground targets in Syria, launched from Russian frigates and corvettes, and submarines.
even the best ships only have 8 anti ship missiles the Velikiy has 20 anything that is less than an anti ship missile can be countered with a gun CIWS (1 can shoot down 8 at a time) but this thing has Kashtans so basically double that number and multiply that from each Kashtan it's invincible you can't even touch the thing
@@ryanflorian2047 Biggest threat to a ship like this, or most ships really, is the possibility of a submarine sneaking through its escort screen and getting a few torpedoes through. The Kirov Class was obsolete the day construction began. They look very impressive with the tremendous number of weapons contained. Now for the rest of the story, borrowing from Paul Harvey, the weapons are far behind the west in ability. Then they have what would best described as marginal damage control equipment, which is critical when you have a vessel this packed with weaponry. One small hit and she goes like a Roman Candle. I like the lines on most more recent Soviet and Russian designs. Even some of their older cruisers, like the Kresta and Kara classes, despite a very busy exterior, don't look too bad. Their destroyers, at least up to the Udaloy class are pretty ugly though.
Maybe in appearance. However, due to Russia's world renowned maintenance of their military equipment, you would have to pay me a significant amount to sail in it for even a day.
As far as brown Water Navy's go I guess! 🤣
I've always found this cruiser most impressive, it's like a modern day Battleship.
A few years ago this ship docked in Cape Town harbour. It had to get a permit from the SA national nuclear regulatory board to come within the metro's limits. It truly is a massive ship you can easily spot from the M3 driving in or out of the city.
Wait when was this?

Nice system I'm Impressed from the USA. The extra plating strap on the hull is used from our old Battleship design for the torpedo strikes. Damn I like the alternative power backup design in the Engineering section.
I love this ship, its design is so cool, this would have been small compared to the old battle ships but compared with todays ships its massive, no country would build them so big today, their to expensive, you could probably have 3 even 4 frigates for the price of 1 kirov class cruiser! Im British and would love this ship in the RN but it will never happen!
The Yamato was cool, but not as pretty as the Iowa, in my opinion. The Iowa was much sleeker and nicer looking. There’s something about that sharply curved and raised bow that I really like.
@@thereyougoagain1280 If sleek, beautiful warships won wars, we'd all be speaking Italian.
c s maybe, but fortunately, warships that actually do their jobs well along with sufficient air cover and competent crews win wars.

actually it doesn´t, only thing it may look like they it´s the size, but it is half the weight and only has 2 130mm "main battery" guns, it has a lot of missiles that´s true, so maybe with the later version of the Iowa
Considering it only has one thing in common with any of them, I will say no.

Seems like this type of ship should follow a carrier.
Nope. It was design to destroy carrier groups like used by USN.
carrier is more so for ground invasion
the Velikiy is a lone wolf interceptor

it also has the most advanced CIWS in the world making it untouchable

Honestly, I never even knew that there were cruisers under way by nuclear power. I thought nuclear was only for subs, so they can run deep for extended periods, and carriers, which are so gigantic they need massive amounts of power. Very cool and informative video.
around 1956 the US navy has a nuclesr cruiser's too, the ship name is USS Long Beach, decommissioned in 1995
Yea our Pioneering Spirit has just conventional engines. But it can come along and just lift up those tiny carriers?
If you have read the schematics of those Ford class reactors? You would know there is no massive amount of power on them.

Because naturally, being only human, they would have no knowledge of Sea Wolf, no access to the internet and/or a formidable education equivalent to yours on UA-cam, and no inclination to adapt. The old mantra "if you build a better mouse, they'll build a better trap" naturally wouldn't apply...because they're only human and would have no basic human ingenuity.

Peter the Great. Damn nice looking ship.
from the uk i love everything about this ship it is incredible well done russia
Thank you very much dear Sentinal )))
This looks like a really impressive ship. It seems to have everything you would want to win a war.
The Russians seem to have made the ultimate battle ship.
However, remember the Bismark.
All it took was one torpedo from an obsolete wood and canvas aircraft to disable her; and then a fleet of minor destroyers and other ships systematically reduced her to a hulk on the bottom of the sea.
Also, remember the Yamoto.
So it would seem that the moral of the story is not to put all your eggs into one basket. The cockroaches of the sea will get you.
Funny and witty comment! I just had to reply good sir!

Pyotr Velikiy: Y E S
I can't wait to see what Admiral Nakhimov (hopefully I spelt the name right) looks like after extensive modernisation. Then when Pyotr Veliky goes for her turn, she might be equipped even better with the S-500 batteries, although that's just an assumption.
In any case, these two warships are already amazing, they should be serving maybe 2 more decades until Russia can roll out out of their shipyards the hefty Lidar class stealth destroyer-cum-cruiser or whatever class of warships they're called. They don't need aircraft carriers. They just need to be bullies in their own turf.
I don't think it will be done. Modernisation is too long, and probably can be kinda eternal.

In fact, the Shipwreck missiles are the only attack weapons. Can the ship use some other missiles against ground targets?
"Fort" (S-300F) missiles are anti-ship capable. They are much cheaper. So, no need to use Shipwreck to destroy low defended targets. It's not a full-time solution, but it was Soviet Navy's requirement to shipbuilders. Might be handy.
One ship is in the process of being refitted with a new VLS system, with up to 80 cells, capable of launching the P-800 «Oniks» (SS-N-26 Strobile), 3M14 and 3M54 «Kalibr» (SS-N-27/
30 Sizzler), P-900 «Alfa», and 3M22 «Zircon». Pyotr is planned to undergo the same upgrade once the Nakhimov is completed. These missiles have a variety of variants and modes of operation, including land attack, possibly ASW, as well as anti-ship. The Kalibr and Oniks have already been demonstrated in combat against ground targets in Syria, launched from Russian frigates and corvettes, and submarines.
even the best ships only have 8 anti ship missiles
the Velikiy has 20
anything that is less than an anti ship missile can be countered with a gun CIWS (1 can shoot down 8 at a time)
but this thing has Kashtans so basically double that number and multiply that from each Kashtan
it's invincible you can't even touch the thing
@@ryanflorian2047 Biggest threat to a ship like this, or most ships really, is the possibility of a submarine sneaking through its escort screen and getting a few torpedoes through. If the flotilla is diligent, and especially if it has submarines in support, it's no easy feat. Massed missile attack from multiple directions, from aircraft might be able to overwhelm defenses, but would likely require attacking aircraft to enter the range of its S-300s

The biggest issue is crew training and experience. They have little or no sea time, little training, and moral is dismal at best. Basically it is one big target.
