    I'm struggling to make sense of the summary above. 'They allege' seems to refer to Grace and her husband who are also the accused, but they can't be accusing themselves. This is however Crown Court at its best - a messy moral issue which becomes a legal contest after which we (and the jury) have to make a clear decision.

    The line of questioning of the pathologist by the council for the defense reminds me of an old joke:
    Lawyer: "Could not the victim have been alive when he arrived in your department?"
    Pathologist: "No, certainly not."
    L:" How can you be so sure of that?"
    P: "His brain was in a jar on my desk."
    L: "And are you quite certain that this means he must have been dead?"
    P: "Now, that I come to think of it, he might still have been working as a lawyer somewhere."
