    Hey Mike, I thought about my last comment on the push plate and now I have to agree with you. As for over engineering, when you are building for personal use it's better to be much stronger cause you only want to build it once. Great job this far!

    • @WSTMike
      @WSTMike  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Keith! The push plate to wedge distance will always be a matter of preference and a lot is based on the wood you split. Not saying I'm right, just have reasonings I explained. If you like over engineering, you are in the right place. Thanks for watching and commenting! WST

      Hi John! Fabricator is a strong word, but I appreciate it. I have to engineer things a little overboard to make sure it lasts. I don't have 220 in my shop and a powerful welder. Morning Mike, like your philosophy, overbuild- Go big or go home! How close do the big- boys stop their plates from the wedge? Understand your concern, if that’s the case, gotta put governors on your cars so they can’t go over 5 mph , remove all buckets from the yard, could fill with water, a fella could pass out, fall head first into it and drown. See where I’m going, but I do understand your concern. Have a good one

      Hey Other Mike! Hope all is well. As for what the other manufactures do, I do not know. My wedge is completely different and that is what determines this in my eyes. I like your BUCKET analogy. That is spot on! We live in a world of CYA if you know what I mean. I'm having warning stickers made for the splitter. You have to have a IQ about 62.7 and have a masters in physics to run it. I will not be running my own splitter..... what a waste of time! Thanks for watching my friend! WST

    Oh Mike, I think you're gonna regret that decision... Okay, not really. I certainly get the logic behind leaving room for a slip over 4-way. The likelihood of needing a four way seems considerably higher than getting into the world's largest patch of Hickory and Elm. Then again, I'm a lower latitude troll and our forests may contain differing ingredients.
    May I offer a suggestion regarding plug welds? Okay, thanks Mike, I didn't want to seem rude! I try to make the hole somewhat larger to get as much weld penetration as possible. I've had them pop off from the round stock because the heat basically concentrated on the thinner wall of the tubing rather than burning into the bar stock.
    If I understand the concept of what you're building, it should be plenty strong enough.
    When the need for maximum strength is required, I pop the stock through both walls of the tube. With about 1/8" protruding, you can put a lot of heat into the weld and the likelihood of it ever moving is pretty slim.
    I too stayed at a Holiday Inn... However, it's been a while ago. Bless'ns to ya, Tedd

    • @WSTMike
      @WSTMike  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Tedd, I appreciate the honest comment. When you start lying to me, I am going to call you out!!! In regards to the plug welds, you make a very, very good point. I should have went all the way through on those log stop pins. It would have been even better. The welds on the opposite side are decent, so I hope that is enough. I appreciate the lesson. I am a self taught welder that needs more taughting, if you know what I mean. Thanks for the comment and the learnin' WST

      You can use the 30gpm dump valve. It is actually rated for UP TO 30gpm. Common misnomer.
      Are you using the circuit at all? Is that why it won’t return? I want to make sure I understand the question.

      @WSTMike it's a one pump does everything kinda thing.. if I engage the saw the entire system shuts down so nothing moves while operating the saw.. very counter productive..

      @@buckinfirewood that is easily fixed my friend. You need a control valve with a power beyond port. I can run my splitter and the lift table at the same time. That is because of the control valve I have. Prince makes the most affordable power beyond valve. I buy my hydraulics from Surplus Center on line. You can call them, tell them what your issue is and they will sell you the correct control valve. I promise your productivity will go up!

      @@tmooreandcrew If I recall, they are not open on Monday’s? There is no dump valve quite like this one. I do have an extra 30 GPM o could sell you if you don’t mind partially used. The cartridge is new, but the housing is used. I would sell for $150 and that includes shipping. Let me know if you are interested.

      Hi Mike, spoke with James today and he helped me out with a dump valve, nice guy, I really appreciate your help. You might want to hang on to your spare, he said he's 76 and thinking about retiring.

    What color is it gonna be? You gonna get custom knobs for your control handles? Since you say cragers are a no go, have you considered spinner hubcaps? Those are cool. How many awesome episodes of the splitter build do we have to look forward to? A 30 spot next time sounds pretty intense! What you doing next episode? You ever thought about giving a little teaser at the end of the video about the next video? Did you take welding classes? Your very good at welding. Does Mrs Tears weld too? I’ll bet Trey’s a good welder. Do I ask to many questions? Did you ever figure out what it is that I leave at the end of my comments? 🐿🐿📏 #firewoodmidwest

      Dear FM, I am overwhelmed. Let me answer your questions in the order to which they were received. Pop some corn, because this is going to take awhile. I have an idea of the color(s) I have a friend that is going to turn me some custom handles from a rare wood from Indonesia. I need to wrap me head around anything that spins and how I would make that happen. There will be 102 episodes in this Log Splitter Build Series. 30 spots are intense, but great for the abs. I will be working on the log lift prep next episode and a teaser is a good idea. Honestly, I feel that these build videos are boring a good amount of people could care less... I get it. The assembly videos is what people want to see, once I start bolting things on. I am not classically trained in welding. Self taught. Alex is a better welder than I am and the rest of the family has no clue where the ON switch is on the welder. The comment you left is a good example of why I love UA-cam. I read and respond to all. Oh, I also enjoy them. I've wanted to ask what you leave at the end of your comments, but I also wanted to figure it out for myself. I think it is a rolling pin. How wrong am I? #woodsweatandtears
