I don't think that could be less like a Chicago pizza while still technically being a pizza.
True if any REAL Chicago saw that being served, they would shoot the cook, but then again Japan has NO IDEA what a pizza should be.
Not only that. but the Italians do not generally put cheese on a fish dish.
I saw a piece of bacon on the pizza, so I'm assuming it wasn't white pizza. That begs the questions, WHERE IS THE TOMATO SAUCE??!

Like everyone else said. I don't know what that was (maybe a weird Mexican pizza?) But it sure as hell wasn't a Chicago pizza.
I am sorry you had a tough day, but it looks like the food and sake helped with that. The "pizza" isn't really deep dish at all- it does look like a giant tortilla chip. Everything else looked great- thanks for taking us along.

I'm impressed by the mouthwatering food on japanese ferries . One advice , if one day you visit europe , never eat on french ferries 😂

YES, YES I DO VERY MUCH.
What they are calling Chicago Pizza is not even close to real Chicago pizza -- unless they aren't trying for Chicago style. I live about an hour away from Chicago and Chicago pizza has a nice crust (that looked like maybe some sort of tortilla), and, at minimum, it is generally made with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce (the sauce might be plain tomato, or will have various spices like garlic and oregano in it), and various toppings (which ones are up to the person. You choose from a list). I'd say you were more correct in calling it Nachos! 🙂
For real! I'm not from Chicago but I would call it a type of nachos or even maybe something like a taco salad. But definitely not pizza.
Totally agree with you both . I grew up in Chicago and that pizza dish looked like it was inspired by taco bell 😊 . I did truly enjoy the video like I always do ❤
Also being from Chicago, I can say for sure that two things are true:
1.) That is absolutely not Chicago style pizza.
2.) It still looks really interesting and I'd love to try it.
If you ever get to Chicago, STJ, I'm sure there's a bunch of us who would be happy to take you to have the real thing. :)
Chicago Pizza is way overrated. It's not appealing at all, in my opinion. Definitely not the best. Not even on the list.
I always like how you say you're not really hungry so you'll order something small, and then go on to order a full evening meal, with an extra large rice. :D
Not me being surprised you didn't order the curry, instead of noodles. And then curry appears on the table. 😂💙

Very lucky! in Japan you actually being served real food that mostly made from real ingredients. Even the worst still the best in most other country.

The private capsule room was very nice and the price was right. Wasn't surprised you ordered the curry instead of the soba. I also think the broccoli and tomato were miss-plated. Sorry to say, that wasn't Chicago pizza, but as long as you enjoyed it is all that matters. Superb dinner. As always loved the blue sea. Will catch you in the next one. Take care, stay safe.

I absolutely love your channels. I enjoy your quiet humor and long for the day when we all may get a glimpse of you. I have even have looked into learning how to make a decent curry to tempt you if you were ever to come to the States or be able to cook for you if and when I travel to Japan. I have had Thai, Chinese and Indian curries. I will have to have Japanese curry. That pizza, though. Probably good, but more like a Taco Bell Mexican pizza variation. That Yellowtail bowl looked great.

That "Chicago Pizza" looks tastier than an actual Chicago style pizza (thick crust with deep deep sauce layer - like a hot tomato quiche).
you totally turned me on to curry rice, I've been buying japanese curry at the store and making beef curry at home. Definitely something I want to try the authentic version of whenever I make it to Japan!
Actually, the are pretty damn close to what it tastes like in Japan. Most people in Japan use the same blocks when they cook it at home. And yes.... Japanese curry is so good! 😁😁

At first I thought the one broccoli jumped ship. But then when you reunited it with its partner and they married, I realized the cherry tomato only wanted his or her adoptive parents back together and you made that happen. You are a good man, Mr. Solo.

Really good ferry food, but have to take exception to the Chicago Pizza, oh dear nooooooo, and the Western Breakfast. We would never serve the green stuff with breakfast and only cooked tomatoes, along with lots of other yummy meat products, potatoes and eggs. But thank you so much for all your hard work and sacrificing your taste buds for our entertainment. ❤❤👋👋🏴👵
First Meal: Oh, no thank you. tripe is not my favorite. The tuna+yam dish looked delicious! The ryukyu don bowl looked yummy too! Hahaha!! STJ-san you cannot fool us. We already knew it would be curry!! Breakfast: It always amuses me when a "western style" breakfast comes with soup+salad. It almost never does here in the US, not with vegetable salad, but you may get fruit salad. Lunch: I would not call that pizza, I would call it a tostada bowl. It did look yummy though! Dinner: I cannot eat chicken, but the rice looked perfect and delicious! See you on the next adventure!
I am in Scotland. I find the journeys across Japan really relaxing and love seeing Japanese food. When I am feeling ill I always go to a Japanese Restaurant. Sushi and green tea always makes me feel better. I am in Glasgow and a Celtic fan. We have Japanese players Reo Hatate, Dazen Maeda, Kyogo Furihashi and Yuki Kobayashi they are loved by Celtic fans. Keep up brilliant vids please.

I know this is a travel & food channel, but I learn alot about the geography of the places in Japan that you travel to. I can't thank you enough for the thorough descriptions of where to board a ferry or what connects to a certain town. I am SO SURPRISED that you are ready to eat!😊🙄😋 As a Westerner, I would not like to find a nacho instead of a pizza crust on my 'Chicago Pizza.' As an Old Man, I would need an ensuite bathroom. I LIKE this ferry for its sensibility and its cleanliness. I would always choose Japanese dishes on board. PS: I need to remember to order more Japanese eggplant curry!

Agree with others, that is definitely not a Chicago Pizza. It looks like the chef got the recipe by phone from someone in Antarctica during a snow blizzard. The ships name is a French word for Sun.

I am sad to say that was not a Chicago pizza, or even a Tavern style pizza. That was more or less an open faced Quesadilla or an American style Tostada my friend. But so long as you enjoyed it XD

I knew I'd find a bunch of people triggered by the "Chicago" pizza... You guys, every country has their own version of foods. I'm from the USA, and literally we're one of the worst offenders! Our pizza would offend the Italians. We have German chocolate cake that's not at all German. Even our sushi is mostly nothing like Japanese sushi. What I'm saying is, just go with it, it's not that serious and we could find examples like this in all places.
Please tell me what is on top of that pizza besides the cheese. 😂 love your travels!!

THAT is not anywhere near a Chicago pizza and any Chicago native will tell you right off the bat. That is what I call a tostada and doesn't look any better than the last time you had it. Whoever is the chef probably confused it with a Mexican Pizza at a Taco Bell here in the states and was misinformed by some non-native local.
