    T M Krishna is present day top most singer of Carnatic music. Reetugoula is superb. None can match his caliber .God bless him.

      No doubt he is one of the few renown orthodox carnatic Musician who upholds the true spirit of classical Carnatic music. Nevertheless one cannot forget the invaluable contribution of great legends like Madurai Mani Iyer. GNB, of course needless to mention M.D.RAMANATHAN for their contribution to Carnatic music espto rare Ragam like Reethigowla. ❤

      1. tmk is the opposite of orthodox
      2. gnb, mmi,mdr are not present.
      3. reethigowla is not a rare raga

    Dear Mr. Raghu Vishnubhotla,
    Mr. T. M. Krishna sang it correctly. It is Badalika + Teera (a sandhi) = Badalkadeera. This is perfectly acceptable. Our Telugu people in fact sing those krithis poorly. I very sincerely 'salute" those non-Telugu speaking people singing them beautifully and we MUST appreciate.
    Can Telugu people sing a single Tamil or Kannada or Malayalam or Sanskrit song with such clarity? Many popular artists failed miserably. I salute all those others singing those songs with so much involvement and bringing out the bhavam. Mesmerizing TMK. Honestly.

    • @ragaroopam5420
      @ragaroopam5420 10 років тому +1

      True. It's easy for Telugu singers to sing Sanskrit and Telugu but not as easy to sing in Tamizh or Malayalam. But Tamilians can sing Telugu with ease.
      The purpose of correcting the diction is only to enhance the quality of the song for the Tamizh singers (so meaning doesn't change), hence some Telugu listeners point out some obvious corrections. But in this case, Badalikadeera is not incorrect. :) BMK garu is a great example for near perfect diction.

      Raga Roopam The other primary reason for us to point out any diction and obvious lyrical mistakes is, so that, the next generation of singers do not make the same mistake that somebody of the stature of T. M. Krishna makes, just in case. He did no mistake here. However, any correction that we make in other instances is not intended to hurt them.
      The stars and the gurus are carrying the tradition from one generation to another. They are great ambassadors of the art. There are so many students and artists looking up to them and following these stars and gurus directly or indirectly. So, if a star makes a mistake, their followers would argue that a star sang like so and hence I am singing the same. That is not a good attitude to take. The guideline for the next generation of artists is to sing it correctly rather than make the same mistake that somebody else makes. That is the only reason for pointing out and correcting and it is requested that either the artists or the gurus should not take it personally.

      Our great master M D Ramanathan Sir was an exception. He took lots of efforts to learn the major south Indian languages (Malayalam of course was his mother tongue). The great master had taken utmost care while splitting the words in the lyrics (sahitya) to bring out the meaning correctly, which was not appreciated enough at that time. He has written and composed almost 300 kritis in different languages - Sanskrit, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. Strangely, the lyrics were scripted by him in the respective language. But, it is quite unfortunate and a shame to the Music community that the great master did not receive befitting recognition while he made his kutcheris live.

      On the contraire his devotion towards his music I feel has become 100 folds more. He was excellent here and continues to be excellent even now. Nice to see him reflect on his music and go beyond the boundaries of music. Why should there be any limitation in imagination or concept when our carnatic music is not limited? Perhaps as an audience it might be good to understand his point of view in more recent times? Personally I don't feel his music is adulterated or traditionally less in recent times either.

    This is such a good performance! I for one, actually really enjoy his expressions and gestures coz it really helps to immerse in the total experience. Plus his gestures point to what he's singing too, not in all its entirety as people might except, but just subtly pointing a way. It's really fascinating. I myself have such mannerisms when I sing, it's a normal thing to happen when the artist gets immersed in the music. It even happens to me at home, when I'm practicing, even there's nobody else to see my expressions. It's not a "showing off" or anything, it's what it is - an "expression" of their immersion.
    Just like guitarists, when they play lead guitar solos, make certain expressions on their faces that people call "guitar faces" for fun.
    Or for example, have you seen the great Vikku Vinayakaram playing ghatam, he has his own unique expressions and mannerisms (like the head tilt and hand raise at the end of a tihai of a piece) and all.
    Every artist has some level of that.

    Mesmerised by the lyrics , the bhakti, the bhava and the beautiful Reetigowlai raaga
    I would have tried over 30 to 40 times to approach somewhere near singing this rather difficult kriti in Subaswaras . One of my favourites along with another equally mesmerising and beautiful kriti of Satguru "Nannu Vidaci " in Reetigowlai

    TM Krishna at his height of classicism. I used to listen his kutcheries live those days. One kutcheri is enough to keep you going for another 6 months, such was the richness and content.Unfortunately a good artist lost his focus and i miss that TMK now a days. It may be due to vast improvement in his aesthetic level and my inability to follow it.

    Excellent rendition of Reethigowla. Reethigowla although looks to be simple, yet completely complex and complicated. For, if it slips it will land into Anandabhairavi. I am only reminded of the song "janani Ninnu Vina" sung by the the great legend late M.D Ramanathan Sir sung between 1970s and 1980s. GOOD depth width and take off of Reethigowla by T.M.KRISHNA. Great effort. Hats of to him.🙏

    I completely agree with Murali Mohan garu. Badalika-theera or Badalikadeera are perfectly acceptable. Non telugu singers may not be perfect but the raga bhava is of outmost importance (listen to the 22 min segment). We dont see many telugu singers singing tamil kritis do we? Many composers (including tamil vidwans) have composed in telugu. Telugu is the jeevaadhaaramu for carnatic music. I think I am not wrong to say that people keeping the traditions alive are the " endaro mahanubhavulu" (telugu or not). I bow humbly at their feet.

    A Ragan has its own limited circle to go.If anybody gone out of that circle we will say thre Raga changed.It is very difficult to elabrate that Rage with in the circle.So one can sing little tine to elabrate that Raga.But an artist who is reserching through his perfomance can sing as much as time he need with out repetation in plan.
    That is happening here by TMK

  • @Mahadevan760
    @Mahadevan760 6 років тому +3

    I agree with Sharada, the rendition, of Raga Reetigowla, (Bhavam), lyrics, and some credit to the composer , are essential, but the major chunk of credit should go to whoever is singing, and to hell with his mannerisms, head movements, and such. Just appreciate his performance, that is all. But then , this is an open forum, so, I suppose,, anyone is entitled to his opinions.

    Rest on your downy bed and be free of fatigue,
    erasing my inexhaustible sings, root and branch. Having exerted yourself so much, Lord, you need rest.
    Relenting at the pitiable plight of Brahma, you incarnated in the solar race, all the way down from your celestial abode.

    Why can't the mridangam player restrict his hands from playing/checking the instrument, while other co-artists are playing alapanai? It almost seems like either he is bored of the alapanai, or he is gesturing TMK/TKV to end the alapanai ASAP. It is a bit annoying!!

    Carnatic Sangeetham is just not music.... people who call one of our deepest cultural values as just music don't understand the basics ...the greatest example of our culture not just being music is right on the stage... Ramabadran... 🙏🙏..please listen to what he had said... Jambhavans like Ramabadran are very rarely born even once in a century.. 🙏...and there is a REASON for this which is where the secret of our rich culture lies.

    TM Krishna recently said that there is no difference between "Siva" and a "Skyscraper" in an interview. And that bhakthi tradition has no place in carnatic music. And that words are irrelevant. This hypocrite will gladly sing "Sangeetha gnyaanamu bhakthi vina" and say bhakthi is irrelevant; will happily sing "Nidhi chaala sukhama" while negotiating royalties and what not. A bogus scam artist.

    • @nmuralimohan4377
      @nmuralimohan4377 10 років тому +5

      I don't think he should be classified as hypocrite. As an artist who pursues Music in its art form, he said what he has in his mind. He minces no words. He believes so and hence says so. That he perceives music in its art form only and not along with Bhakti content is acceptable for his age though it is a pity. I would rather sympathize than condemn. The Bhakti or the Atma realization comes with age. That is why elders say Deergha Ayushmaanbhava. He is not like any Baba saying philosophical words and doing wrong karma. I recently read an article where a young lady who learnt Music said she quit it because the Indian Music is so integrated with Hindu religion and the Gods. That is an young artists' perspective.

      @enrichingexchanges 10 років тому +7

      Sri Murali Mohan. You are correct. I stand corrected. I do not think there is any space for name calling, which I did. I think your comment is just about appropriate. I think his comments are sad, and somewhat contradictory, but I need not have stooped so low.

      Enriching Exchanges I highly appreciate the way you corrected yourself. I must praise you from roof tops. It is very difficult to correct yourself and say so. Ego and other human factors play a role.
      I am hoping that Mr. T. M. Krishna too corrects his stance one day. I am looking forward to that day.

    Such a big curse to our Carnatic music. This singer is a shame to our Canatic music and should be banned by all Carnatic music event organisers

    Ok Good rendition. But too many unwanted hand movements I think. There is no coordination between his hand movements and his articulation. This guys sings well, but he is over-rated. If there is a tussle between Balaji Shankar and this guy, Balaji will win hands down for the sweetness of his voice and his skillful articulation. Unfortunately, Balaji had to quit. I don't like this guy's attitude.

      I respect your opinion, but maybe his hand movements help him sink into concentration. His voice is divine. A lot of people do that to help their nervousness. Anyone could look at a video of you or me singing and say that we have a lot of hand movement going on but its what helps us feel relaxed. In the end, he sings with bhakthi and bhavam. Thats what counts. This guys "attitude" is actually very sincere and humble. Looking at a video and judging him like that is not a good thing to do. Its like a judging a book by its cover.

      I agree with you on the 'bhavam', but not sure of TMK's 'bhakti'. TMK is an atheist. :)

      In Carnatic music there is one thing called 'Mano Dharma'. The artist who renders a composition wants to bring out his best. He/She always thinks of the Raga and all the best features of the Raga. He/She brings out the best of the Raga. Such coordination between the mind and rendition results in such mannerisms. The artist is so involved in the rendition that sometimes for the audience it may look ugly and not acceptable,. But these mannerisms are common in both Karnatic and Hindustani style of music. Generally the learned audience do not mind such mannerism
