Not really.am in the market to buy a used WRX, 2013/2015, most have oil leaks from the head gaskets, broken cv boots, a handful had wheel bearings noise...

@@mazpr2025 I’ve owned 2 wrxs and an sti. My dad has owned 3 bmws and my sister just bought a bmw. My subarus have needed more frequent repairs than the bmws. They really are money pits, at least when you buy them used. I have no experience with how reliable they are if bought new, cause all mine have been 02-04. Oh and I never had any head gaskets go, but my passenger side valve cover gasket went on my old bugeye, and 3 different coolant hose clamps all snapped on different occasions, and of course my cv boots ended up splitting as well all on this one car. That thing has leaked oil, coolant, and grease. No leaks on the other two, however my sti burns oil.

158k on my 2016 wrx 6mt...I agree, Subaru knocked it out of the park. It’s my first import and has been the best car I’ve owned. I was a Ford guy before, and I work for Lincoln, but I am definitely now a Subaru “fan boy”. This car is very well-rounded. Perfect blend of performance and economy with all year drivability. Easy to maintain too. I do all of the work on mine and everything is so easy to get to. The engineers at Subaru really thought of the consumer with this car. The glass and front on mine have seen better days and I unfortunately had to replace my trans due to a throw out bearing exploding and badly damaging the original trans. I don’t blame Subaru for this, I was hard on the car...but damn she’s taken a beating. Great review, hopefully when I hit 200k I can do something similar!

Partly why the 2015+ model has a bump in HP increase from previous gens is due to the equal length headers they put on the car. Although some prefer the hp loss for the official Subie rumble. To each their own.

    • @lecoureurdesbois86
      @lecoureurdesbois86 2 роки тому +1

@@19Herofade92 It's not about the design, it's about restriction.
If you have aftermarket UEL headers it's going to have better air flow than stock EL ones, more power. If you put aftermarket EL on an STI, it's also going to have better airflow than the stock UEL, because better air flow, less restriction.
The EJ having the turbo on the side means UEL makes shorter way to exhaust gasses to the turbo, which means it begins to boost faster than EL. On the FA, the turbo isn't on the side, so it doesn't matter and going UEL isn't going to make it spool faster since the turbo remains in the middle, it's just for the cool sound and you will get some minimal gains from better flow. Putting EL on an STI is the same as putting an UEL on a WRX: you're just making one of the sides have longer header pipes.
The increase of power from the previous generation might be due to the fact that it is a completely new engine with better technology and tuning, and not just going EL, don't you think?

Jesus you must be driving every waking hour lol. I thought I drove a lot at 25,000 mi per year, also mostly highway. I'm currently shopping for a 2020 WRX, so it's good to know they can last for 200,000 trouble free miles if well maintained...and left stock. A lot of the tuner crowd loves to bitch about the reliability of this car, while they're trying to push it to well over 300 hp. Obviously, if you blow a gasket or throw a rod in that case, it's not Subaru's fault.

While you are right, they mostly refer to the STI which is still running on the old EJ platform. WRX are now on FA20 since 2015, which would the newest. So it's nice to see what this engine is capable of doing reliability wise.

This is actually a nice review, thank you. It lets people know that the WRX is like the rest of the Subaru lineup - fairly reliable and does not need a lot of repairs. That is good to know. My last car was a 2006 Saab 9-3 that I sold at 190,000 miles after 12 years - still running today with 225,000 and a second owner. The seat bolster wore out at 175,000 miles and I replaced it at a upholster shop but that was really it. Seats do show signs of wear at 200,000 so that is not a big deal. Thank you for doing this.

Wow plenty of miles on it! I have a 2015 Subaru WRX Premium as well but with 71K miles on it. I live in NY state. However, mine is modded.
    Things to note:
--Car is a 2015 Subaru WRX Premium 6-Speed manual
--As of this writing the car has close to 71K miles on it
    --Her name is Julie :)
--From factory I got front and rear weathertech mats for a good price
--From factory I got a STi short throw shifter
--I've had multiple Blackstone lab results on my motor oil and it proves to hold up very well. I have been constantly using magnetic oil drain plugs for a while to catch any extra metal parts the filter doesn't get to/misses

--Invidia 2015+ WRX J-Pipe/Downpipe (High-flow CAT) coupled with Corsa Catback muffler. I believe it is 3" piping
    --IAG AOS street version
    --COBB intake
    --Perrin Pitch Stop
    --Cobb 3-Port Boost Control Solenoid
    --Process West top mounted Verticooler
--SouthBend Clutch Stage 2 Daily. Stock flywheel. Was resurfaced. Clutch and fork were done by my Tuner along with a Walnut blasting at around 45K miles.
    --Verus Clutch fork and ball
--JR Tuned at PrimeMotoring on Dyno on 93 Octane
--Premium Dimpled & Slotted Brake Rotors (#RB-47032)
--Front Akebono ACT1078 ProACT Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pad Set
--Rear Akebono ACT1114 ProACT Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pad Set
--Bled brakes using Motul (2 Pack) 100950 100% Synthetic Brake Dot 5.1 Brake Fluid 1/2 Liter or 500 ml
    Non-Performance mods:
--Mid range hornblasters. I have a stock Subaru fog light switch going to 40 amp relay from old fog light set for the compressor in trunk. Horns are in bumper. Hooked with a 3 way switch to go from stock horns to train horn. Looks pretty stealthy in the car. Pain to install (neatly) and get working. Horn is triggered by the stock steering wheel horn
--BlackVue front and rear dashcams. Wiring routed neatly. Wired up to the cig plug in center console
--Pioneer AVH-X5600 2-DIN head unit. Was essential since the stock head unit left MUCH to be desired. Sound quality increased immensely and left stereo this way. Only gripe I have is it lacks good noise cancelation when on a phone call but otherwise works great. Would love a quality Android head unit but keeping this one. The stock speakers sounded WAY better afterwards
--All front headlights (high/low) changed over to LED from Subispeed. This was one of the first mods I did since the Stock bulbs were TERRIBLE. Blinkers left on stock bulbs because I could care less about that :)
--Backup alarm that I can switch on and off. Reverse lights work whether I have the alarm enabled or not. Just for fun. Combined with the train horn you can reverse, have reverse alarm enabled, and tap horn twice to sound like a huge 18-wheeler is backing up or something like that :)
--17" BBS wheels with all season Michellin Sports tires. Still have the stock wheels. May get set of summer and winters and switch them seasonally
--Max 360 Escort radar detector. Wired neatly and tapped into switched cig lighter wiring Put the switch for it neatly in console
    --Interior lighting green from LEDGUYS
    Current issue with car:
--Code P2270... Seems to be my rear O2 sensor. I may of resolved issue by ultimately putting new rear downstream sensor in car. Had tried with original sensor using one of those restrictor fittings but that is frowned upon since it is considered a defeat device. I had removed that and put sensor directly in muffler stream as it is designed to be. Have around 310 miles recorded and seems good to me (knock on wood). I knew what I was getting into when modding the car. I tried going the safer route. I've had my headaches with it troubleshooting some things but never left me on side of road (also knock on wood of course :)). Car runs well, sensors report back well, no CEL, etc. The car is how I wanted it. Yes it is not ever going to be perfect for me but as of right now its the closest I can get. Looking to keep it until it does not pay to keep it anymore. Knowing myself if I have it down the road and car is in one piece I'll likely keep maintaining it. Maintenance as with any car is key. Carbon buildup on valves since the car is DI is a bummer/flaw. Wish they also added in port injection but of course that increases development costs and such. I did what I could to reduce buildup but can never seem to stop the soot that builds up over time.

I would consider an Android head unit or something like that but has to be double din. I don't know why I ended up wanting a head unit that can play DVDs because not ONCE did I play one lol. Only tested it.
Yeah, the horn is very loud and can anger people so be careful and the cops would give you a ticket. I have it wired on a 3 way switch so I can toggle stock and that horn. I have a stock Subaru fog light switch and wired that to the compressor with relay. While the horns sound great in winter many times in hot humid weather the horns can sound crappy at times. But for most part I love them.

My 2019 STI is my 11th subaru. Never will buy anything else in the segment other than a subaru. When you see people blowing these up at 50k or whatever miles they tell you, they should stick with gluing tooth picks together for a living. They have a known issue with the 2015 and 2016 compressor clutches. Unfortunately they only cover it with the bumper to bumper warranty. They replace the whole compressor but you can just replace the clutch even though it can be a real pain.
