Alex, this isn't an autobiographical song. Lots of Taylor's songs come from inspiration from books or movies or tv shows OR what her friends go through. Part of the inspiration for Death by a Thousand Cuts was a Netflix romantic comedy called "Someone Great", Taylor has talked about it in several interviews and at her NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert which I think you'd enjoy. Even the song "You belong with Me" that references the girl on the bleachers and the football star, was NOT written about Taylor's life or wish to date a football player. Taylor overheard a guy's conversation with his girlfriend who was yelling at him on the phone at her high school - that's what inspired the song, NOT Taylor's actual life or desire for a football player! Fun fact, the author of "Someone Great" was so honored Taylor was inspired to write this song from her script. The author herself was actually inspired to write "Someone's Great" from listening to Taylor's songs!!
The other song from this concert some of us have requested is Daylight. This was great. So glad you got around to this and enjoyed it. There’s actually a Taylor Swift course at Harvard and many other prestigious schools. They study her lyrics, her business savvy, marketing strategies with album and merchandise sales all kinds of stuff. It’s so popular one major school decided to add a Beyonce class at one, but can’t remember which one. I can’t see that doing as well though She’s just not as big as Taylor and isn’t a lyricist Thanks Alex
Sorry about your team, Alex - I have mad respect for your coach and hope he is good for the short term So Taylor said this is a true story, just not HER true story. She was happy in her relationship but had some friends going through it. She was happy she could still write break up songs while she was happy 🫶🏼

It’s ok. I’m used to seeing us lose every year in the playoffs 😂
