I watched a crane company in MD set up a Liebherr 200 ton hydro crane in the 90’s. It was lightly snowing and below freezing temp. The ground was also uneven, so we were using cribbing and mats to bring the low side of the crane up to some semblance of level. As the brother of the owner of the company started leveling the crane up On its outriggers, the whole crane slid @12” and almost came off the cribbing. You heard nothing but the engine of the crane and the snow falling. Nobody screamed and panicked. We just started to slowly let everything down and start over. This time using sand yo add friction between the cribbing stacks and the actual metal plate of the outriggers. It could have been a really bad day. We got away with one that day. The good Lord wanted us to go home to our families that day. I’ll never forget that incident. 😳
The public has to know the difference between union labor and non union labor instead of grouping everybody together as just construction workers. This 3am accident was with a non union outfit. Same yellow crane company, cranes express, involved in a previous crane accident in qns where a steel beam dropped and killed another non union construction worker.
Accidents dont care if ur union or not.. there are idiots on both sides of fence. I work union iron local 75, I've been around non union as well. Bunch good iron workers. Both same
I’ve worked Union and non-union. There is a world of difference with regards to concern for the safety of workers and the public. They’re not the same.
When you put together and take apart cranes you pretty much have to be right on top of everything. It's dangerous work. Construction workers, especially the type who work on or around cranes dont get enough credit for what they do.
@@markjames2909 They were building the crane setting counterweights. One either was rigged poorly or the rigging broke, and the weight fell onto whoever was handling it. So yeah splat. Very sad.
@@Desh727 there's absolutely no reason why anyone needs to be underneath the counterweight while rigging that crane. So why he was under a suspended load is a mystery. Very sad

And when i catch them breaking into my area, i shut down my crane grab the idiots and drag them into the construction management.
Thise counterweight DO NOT say 75 tons. I believe those say 7.5 tonnes
They are 12.5 metric ton counterweights for the big slabs. The smaller square ones are 7.5 tons
I waa comming to say the same thing.

They’re not the same.
That one you referenced on that last sentence, the crane operator was a 15+ year union guy who switched to non union.
You r naive to believe Union and Non Union have the same skills, training and standards. Union labor is far and away better qualified.
Well if that is true, then he was accustomed to making bad choices regarding his job.
cranes a 500t Liebherr slabs weigh 15 tons each
15,000 not ton

Ha ha 75 ton!! More like 7.5T
A 75t ballast weight? I don’t think so.
7.5 tonnes per slab
I was like that don't look like (75) tons.🥺
Anybody knows the address of that incident

75 tons my ass-maybe 7.5 tons. Those counterweights aren't THAT big, you can see for yourself!

Shame for the deceased mans families, this is why we have unions,we pay in, families should have compensation if we die at work 👌👌👍
