If we simply step to the opponent's blindspot (i.e. his side or back), it's easy for them to turn around to defend and get back at us.

Hence, we sometimes need to draw an attack (or any action) from the opponent first to cover our movement to the ideal position.

In this example, a quick attack using the low kick is used to provoke a reaction from the opponent.

Thereafter, a pre-planned positioning is taken and a counterattack is immediately launched.
