Mass hysteria aside, I thought it kinda normal if someone was nauseated after seeing someone else puked or smell the puke... My friends all act this way, 90% of the time. They don't always feel sick, they're just too grossed out by the puking...
Ok, gross story. My older siblings (3 sisters 1 brother) all got sick around the same time and one morning, brother started throwing up but the walls were so thin that everyone in the house could hear him. He was throwing up in the toilet, sister 1 ran in and threw up in the tub, sister 2 took the kitchen sink and sister 3 just ran to the back yard. Mom was in a frenzy to help them while my dad (also sick/type 2 diabetic) was laughing because he was used to early morning vomit parties alone. Still a fun dinner table story from my parents.
Other people throwing up causes me to gag and of the gag is strong enough it can force up a bit of stomach acid, I usually try to swallow it and drink something fizzy to get rid of the sting but I'm sure at some point I probably have thrown up a bit because of hearing or seeing someone else throw up
My dad had an allergic reaction to Lisinopril to where his lips, tongue and face ended up super swollen. His doctor "prescribed" him sour candy, specifically War Heads. We finally found some and they did the trick. It was a blocked salivary gland.

Mass Hysteria is a near perfect reflection on the consequences of our own social circles. Yeah, laughing and talking is healthy for a community to govern and migrate new ideas, but what exactly happens when those ideas aren't properly thought out and sends the wrong commands your body is trying to expel like waste. Being balanced isn't a suggestion, it's a mandatory life-or-die situation.

That’s so stupid. Why risk them finding out by using sweet candies in a variety of colors when they could have given them a water pill, sugar pill, or even a baby aspirin? At least they look like the legit meds they are. And you tell kids a vague diagnosis and none of them jump to Google it?
Even though its called baby aspirin, aspirin should NEVER be given to ANYONE under the age of 18. It can have life altering and deadly side effects. Honestly, giving them candy is the same thing as a SUGAR pill, which IS a placebo. This whole cure is based on the placebo effect.
During one of the world wars (i forget which) medics ran out of pain killers but wanted to help the soldiers so devised a plan to use sugar pills. And it worked. The brain is an amazing thing if give some "unique" information to work with.
