      Same. Ran against our squad in NorCal, and saw him run at Cerritos and Arcadia in the mid 90s. Young beast.

    I was here with my school and remember this event like yesterday. Obea Moore from John Muir and St Jagos was so amazing I'll never forget.

    I coached Jets runners when obea was an 8th grader. He was a joy to watch...especially at practice at Jackie Robinson stadium!

    Met him in person. He was a genuinely nice young man. Wish him all the best. But there was sooo much more to be accomplished

    I wish there was footage of William Reed’s preliminary (the trials) anchor leg in 1986. He was only a sophomore that year, but that leg was astonishing. Cold and rainy conditions and he ran 45.10!

      @@bjornragnarsson8692 I think youre a year and a half late. But actually, his junior year he ran the 400m at the Brooks PR Invitational, and started maining the 100m as a senior I think. He was always gifted in the 200m too

    Sultan McCullough was a stud for USC in track and football. That Muir track team was loaded. Obea Moore just didn't have the grades coming out of high school. That's usually what dooms high school track phenoms. Ask William Read, Clinton Daniels, Casey Combest, etc.

      Take a look at the recent documentary on Obea Moore, there's more to it than grades but it definitely was a big part

    • @mstrunn
      @mstrunn 3 роки тому +1

      @Darryl Nelson Yes grades can ruin a potential great career, however, I've been involved in T&F for 60 years and I see it every year, if a HS coach has a phenom they use them up as Obea so articulately stated, they want points they want to win, so they have this point getter and enter them in every event they can, when you have an indoor and outdoor campaign that is a lot of running a lot of toll on the body, and if they go to college many of these athletes are toast and never reach their true potential, you see it all the time, this was a great documentary and a lot of lessons to think about.

    Obea's problem was everyone was up his bum. We went to Houston for Junior Olympics in 96. He got drummed.
    I was over it after i saw his teammates carrying his spikes and gear. They treated him like he was the absolute best. That year was hot. We had 3 46s on our 4x400 and a team from west texas broke the under18 National record that year. His team was no where in it. Never heard much from him again.

      Personal problems (demons) kept him off the track. He attended college for a time, but sadly, he never ran a single collegiate race. I heard years later he attempted to make a comeback to try out for another Olympics, but the magic was gone.

      He gave up‼️.... There's a new phenom in town, and his name is Quincy Wilson💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 just turned 16.... Running 400m in grown man times of 44.3 .. they say he's better than Obea Moore. He's 16 and just made the Olympics
