I am in the video, I was one of the helicopter maintenance team, I remember some brat managed to turn on the aircraft battery and hit the fuel dump switch. Fuel got jettisoned all over the flight deck, Harry Hartshone was watching the aircraft that day and got a rollicking for it. None the less the people o& Aberdeen made me feel special and it was a privilege to be there.
Wow!, just found this video and I was there too and recall coming back onboard after SOTV and the smell of avcat in the harbour. Harry screwed up and I think it was the XO who stopped the jettison. I was the R1 ...
I was the Master at Arms onboard HMS Scylla and appear a couple of times in the video, she was my last ship before I left the RN after 24 years. Aberdeen was a great visit.
This revived my memories of a similar visit to Aberdeen during my time on Scylla in the early seventies. Especially the whiskey q the golf course club which made us very welcome.
I served on H.M.S Scylla ,after the time she completed her sea trials and work-up .on the 6thJuly 1970 when she became my home .During that year we visited Aberdeen for the very first time in her life .before heading to the Med ,and after out to the Far East . I have long lasting memories of those times ,I even managed to have my tot on her ,before it was stopped.on July 31st 1970.
I had a friend whose "nickname" was 'scylla" and he named his fishing boat "Scylla" he was a great guy from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA :) We say K instead of C :)
Brilliant record to discover, I remember this from the time as well as some of the characters in the clips

Great ship served on Scylla 75/76. Remember our visit to Aberdeen well. Wonderful welcome and gear hospitality.

What year was this? I was in Aberdeen on a Scylla freedom of the city visit. I don't recognise the skipper though.
1992
Cdr Mike Booth. The previous visit, the year before, had Cdr Malcolm Williams as our skipper. RIP both officers.
