Grab thousands of dollars of drills and tools. Then leave and someone else would come back with that cart full of stuff and return it for 1000$. The store would never call the police because under 1200$ in Cali is a misdemeanor. So if we call the cops they take the cart and send them on their way. Not even the cops can help there

@@russs7574I am of the utmost importance to media in Oregon because they seem to drop everything they do to record around me or turn off the camera when I am around. I am an obsession these old white camera men that have been around since segregation who seem to look for white heroes
Oregon media have gone out of they way during riots & protest to not include me on television, don't believe the media when they play victim

Jail is too expensive and there aren't enough cells. Cane them, remove a finger, brand them as warning to others, something immediate, unpleasant, and low cost. Plus half these people want to be locked up and do the crimes on purpose to be locked up. In jail they have heat, and are fed. Often they have TV, beds and blankets. My father used to give homeless people jobs, and they would tell him how they would get drunk and disorderly on purpose every winter to get locked up.

At my local Fred Meyer here in Seattle the same thing was happening and the same measures have been instituted. Talking with one of the security guys one day he said that shoplifting had dropped by 90%. He added that the homeless (who were heavily encamped around the store and the main perpetrators) liked "easy" and just went elsewhere. It's a shame for sure all around and I know that I don't have the answer.

I've worked in a grocery store for almost 11 years and this is something we are not allowed to get involved with. When we were 24 hours we would sometimes see people stealing. It's worse during regular hours(I'm on the backshift). We close now at ten. No customers but I do recall seeing other employees chasing thieves around the store and towards the doors. Security guard pal of mine told me it can be a sticky thing dealing with this crime. He has to follow a very strict process before approaching any shoplifter. I have no answers for this.

This narrative assumes there's more shoplifting than when 45 was in office. Corporations love this story so they can close stores, and gouge their customers: their profits are 40% higher than pre-pandemic.

The problem is that grocery stores do not have the authority to check receipts at the exit.
They can stop and detain you if they believe you are trying to steel from them. You can refuse to show your receipt.

The fact is that you don’t have to show receipt if you not a part of any club. Before you say it’s for your safety they are treating you like a criminal by checking your receipts. If you paid for something it’s legally your property don’t give up your freedom for a little security.

just close the store. cut all loses. it'll only get worse. its how humans work. any attempt to stop it will be met with violence like usual. and people will riot and pilfer the store like they have in other states. get out while ya can. or keep losing.

Worked for freds for 12 years. I never blamed people stealing as the reason I never got past $15 a hour. Kroger is a multi-billion dollar company that has seen record profits for years. I blame corporate greed for that company giving me nothing. I don't blame people stealing in a society where half of their monthly pay goes to rent if they are lucky, inflation is insane, and just getting by is a struggle. Stealing is literally a sure thing sociologically when people can no longer afford basic comforts. If anyone would bother picking up a history book, this is a story as old as time, where the rich horde the wealth, driving everyone to poverty, and to fight amongst themselves for the scraps, instead of working together to being down the common enemy.
