      Paul listening to the controller on the video it is easier now to understand than in the plane with some background noise. However I was in their backyard so I am the one that has to listen carefully since that is their method of speech. Little tricky but it all worked out.

    A couple cool cats (SkyCats) with a cool plane I do say. Being a pilot myself for many years (1971 onwards) it is refreshing to watch you both interact with fun and professionalism. Of course the final approach and smooth landing at Saint Maarten's puts the icing on the proverbial cake...dang, would love to do the same. The CJ4 must be the loveliest single pilot machine to do it with I am sure. A pleasure to view your videos...

      Grant thanks for the nice comments. Yes have fun but we also pay attention to the important steps in conducting the approach. Weather was perfect so that helped. You ought to watch our last video where we landed in Bar Harbor Maine right after minimums! Thanks for watching.

    What's with the O2? The pilot went to the boy's room?

    • @citation80hbflyer38
      @citation80hbflyer38  6 років тому +2

      Michel Rail No Michael when you are at our altitude which was at 45,000’ then one pilot has to be on oxygen . When single pilot then over 35,000’ oxygen at all times. This is for a sudden decompression event.

    • @michelrail
      @michelrail 6 років тому +3

      Wow. I didn't know that, but it makes sense. Sorry for my ignorance. I can't fly over 10,000 in my 172. ;-) Thanks for the quick answer.

      @citation80hbflyer38  5 років тому +1

      S Jamison You are correct to a point, but I think they had issues way before reaching 35000’ and slowly became incapacitated and just all passed out and the rest is history.

      Larry I have always been crazy because it kept me from going insane! A line from Waylon Jennings. After I landed I went there hoping to get blasted by a large jet taking off but not one showed up and I had to leave. My wife agrees with you. Delta Alpha.

  • @igclapp

    That final approach looked a little low. Or was that on purpose to thrill the crowd on the beach? 😊

    • @citation80hbflyer38
      @citation80hbflyer38  3 роки тому

      No we were following the GPS approach and using the vertical guidance. I think it seems low because the end of the runway is very close to the water.

    • @igclapp
      @igclapp 3 роки тому

      @@citation80hbflyer38 Could also have been the camera focal length. Made me think about Air Canada flight 624 that landed short due to an insidious vertical guidance problem. Maybe not your situation, but this is interesting reading: code7700.com/case_study_air_canada_624.htm
      By the way, curious to know what prevents a passenger from opening the door in mid-flight because the Citation door opens outwards. Is there some kind of pressure-controlled lock that prevents someone from opening the door when the cabin is pressurised?

    Do you guys usually test the oxygen mid-flight?

    • @citation80hbflyer38
      @citation80hbflyer38  6 років тому +4

      Arawak_Celtic No, we Check the bottle before every flight then test the masks prior to every flight by pressing a red test button to make sure there is proper flow. We also have a shut off handle we pull to shut the Oxygen off after every flight since they can leak on their own. The masks are very uncomfortable but lifesavers if you have a rapid decompression at a very high altitude. At 45K feet conscious time is measured in seconds after a sudden decompression which is rare but possible.

    • @citation80hbflyer38
      @citation80hbflyer38  2 роки тому +1

      Above 35000 feet, one pilot must have a mask on at all times. We alternate because it is ver uncomfortable. However flying single pilot, then over 35K a mask is a must.

    • @citation80hbflyer38
      @citation80hbflyer38  6 років тому +2

      Richard we could have but we still have to stop at an airport of entry and for us that is Wilmington NC, since it pretty much on a straight line home. We thought about clearing at San Juan then going direct but stuck with our original plan. The beaches may be clothing optional but I didn't see any Adam or Eves.

      Ok here is the route. KLBE IHD CLB-NDB AR3 NUCAR G446 GTK PJM. They did give us new routes closer to Puerto Rico and routed us over SLUGO intersection if my memory serves me right. I filed for a route that hugs the Bahamas and other Islands rather than go straight over the ocean. Only added minutes to our flight and kept us closer to land in case of emergencies. Did the RNAV approach into TNCM which worked out well however the weather was perfect. Thanks for watching.
