    My problem with online and direct ordering is that I need to put my hands on the guitar and amp and play it awhile or a few times before I decide I want to buy it. No two guitars come off the line the same and they each play and sound different from each other. Regardless of being the same model etc. I just miss going to my local shops and talking with staff and local musicians about the gear I might purchase. That's what made it fun about playing. Oh well, get off my lawn damnit!

      Ive said this before, but I believe this is the blessing and the curse with PRS guitars. The same model of a guitar tends to sound the same, and feel the same. So, if you like the DGT in the store and order it online, it will feel the same as the one in the store.
      This is also why people think PRS guitars have no soul, or feel and sound clinical. When you buy a Gibson or Fender, the feel and playability can varying guitar to guitar in the same model. This is why many people go searching for their perfect Gibson. And when they find it, they swear it's the greatest guitar ever made. And that same person would have gone through several just to find it, because they vary with quality. Gibson's inconsistency will either give you a great instrument or one not so great. But, if you find the one, nothing feels better.
      If you don't like one PRS DGT, you cannot go hunting for one that you do. That is the way they feel. This is why some people cannot connect with PRS, because their consistency doesn't allow for much variation. It is a blessing and a curse for them.
      So, if you have ever played a model you like in the store, you can be sure that you'll get that same experience ordering that same guitar online.
      As far as any other guitar, I agree, you have to feel it, even if you've played the model before.

      PRS has so many different models, with different neck shapes, number of frets, body styles, semi-hollow, hollowbody, single cut, double cut, humbuckers, single coils, coil splits, coil taps, piezo, colors, finishes, wood choices, weights, price points etc. The quality is consistently excellent. They don’t all sound the same model to model either. If you can’t bond with DGT then try something else and don’t be so narrow minded.

    I believe Sweetwater added Reverend brand guitars about two years ago. I had only been buying Gibson and Fender American-made electric guitars for years. I decided to take a chance, and I bought a Reverend Reeves Gabrels Dirtbike Royale from Sweetwater. It's a Strat-style guitar, but it's got two hum-free P-90s, so it's definitely not a normal Strat. I'm really glad I took the chance, because I really love the guitar. 🙂

    A manufacturer who can’t handle a large purchase order shouldn’t want to be in a large-scale retailer like Sweetwater, anyway. There’s nothing wrong with being a small maker, and growth comes in increments. If your product is good and you have a growing customer base and good word of mouth, you’ll be able to scale up over time, if that’s your ambition.

    Phil has a brain for business, it's amazing how much about other peoples businesses he knows and understands… he gets it.
    I wonder what he will be doing in 3 to 6 years because bright people like this can move around in an industry... on the other hand, the guy seems to be happy as sh-t surrounded by guitars as a byproduct of what he's already doing. Why be in a rush to change?

    Today, for a new builder or brand, you have to prove your sustainability and your quality control before retail shops will take your product. Nobody wants to take a chance on new brands. If I look at all the music stores in my area, they all carry the big brands except for a few boutiques that carry major but less popular brands. In Canada, you also have distributors to deal with, so if you get a deal with a distributor, you're more likely to see you gear in a store. The good news is that it's easier than ever to sell directly to customers directly.

      Stores like proven brands, and honestly very few brands have done anything that Gibson or Fender and all their satellite brands haven't done endlessly for over half a century. The brands that DO offer different tech / materials / design often get written off as gimmick brands or people aren't really into them in a mainstream sense - Parker comes to mind immediately

    I agree then and now you need to build connections and very few have the carisma and ability and chance to walk into a store and get it on their shelves I have the first and last bit... But my product isn't ready for that... excuse me I'm not ready for that the product is doing fine and can handle it as it has been... So yeah if you want it big you need to work extra hard then what you need to be successful these days.

    Phil - 11:27 What is the benefit to even getting sweetwater to carry your product if its $29.99 and they aren’t really going to market anything? For expensive items or high volume items i can see it helping a small company. For a small company with direct sales and not large volume i think you’re just sharing margin esp. Say you’re in the hundreds of orders a month territory. What do you think? I’m not even sure how sweetwater would help a small company, if nobody is going to find out about you there.

    • @renzosound
      @renzosound 2 місяці тому

      I don't think it's Sweetwater's business model to "help" a small brand. As described, they would rather wait until there is customer demand to fill. It would be a risk to take on inventory and then try to educate the market on the product, do sales and promotions, etc. BUT there are mom & pop shops, and specialty retailers who might take a chance on you, who are selling and recommending things to their customers.
      But one thing you didn't have 40 years ago was the ease of going D2C and low-to-no-cost broad marketing. That will fill the gap as large retailers are always more selective.

    • @woofcity6307
      @woofcity6307 2 місяці тому +1

      @@renzosound yes, I agree. I am in that boat myself I was posting that question a bit rhetorically - suggesting that they probably didn’t have any benefit for any retailer like that. But kind of like Phil was saying the incredible thing is with social media and direct selling like you actually can launch a brand without a company like Sweetwater I’m trying to do it!

    Sweetwater was MUCH better before they sold out to venture capitalists couple years ago. It didn't take them 10 minutes to cancel the 400 page catalogs we got twice a year and now the bag o' candy is history. Quite frankly AMS is better now because they will float you credit - 6 or 12 pay no credit check whereas Sweetwater offers nothing but their own card which you must qualify for, also AMS gives you $20 off all the time when SW NEVER gives you a discount or cash. AMS gets stuff that SW doesn't like LE Epiphones and certain Epis like the kill switch Sg Special for $179 Jeez I sound like an AMS honk. Never mind ANYTHING I said, I lied, I made everything up (not) I'm not on the payroll! Just passing info for broke ass musicians that might appreciate it. Your welcome 😎
