    It's honestly one of the most underrated Singers ever...Actual factories and sewing-contractors SWEAR by them, but they go unnoticed outside of production settings. Every double needle rotary machine out now shares lineage with the 112w. I'm buying two more lol

      They're rock solid. I loved mine but ultimately replaced it with a switchable needle Juki, self oiling and very fast but there's just something about the Singer 112 that is just so appealing.

    Just wanted to thank you so much for taking the time and trouble of posting your videos, I found your channel today and watched for 6 hours! I've watched literally hundreds of sewing machine related UA-cam clips, you're by far and away the most knowledgeable expert, with a huge range of knowledge that I've found. You said some of the videos are a bit long, that's fine with me, you go into such great level of detail - anyone genuinely interested in sewing machines will value the opportunity to learn. I hope you'll continue to post clips, I've subscribed and look forward to seeing more. Shame you're so far away, I'd be interested in buying a machine from someone who not only loves the machines so much, but knows how to service and adjust. Greetings and regards from Mold, North Wales UK

    Thank you, I just got one in our store for service, never worked on one before. Watching your video, I learned alot about this double needle unit. Customer said,threads kept falling out of her tension dials.... unfortunately, we only have the head. I was hoping to also see how this is threaded. Lady purchased this unit from a Pocketbook factory that closed. Thanks again.

    I know this is an old video, but I just purchased one of these and I'm super excited to get it setup and sewing. It was just the head, so I did purchase a servo motor (got it for $30 bucks--great buy) and I am a woodworker so I will also be building the table for it. So in a few days I hope to be sewing with it. Thanks for the great video. I am having trouble finding the manuals for it, but I will try singeronline again and look for them. Also, thanks for the comment from Mike below about the adjuster knob issue. I'm going to check out his video next. So, just know your effort in making is video is still relevant today in June 2020 as it was in 2015, and thanks again. Bill

    Great videos! I have a problem with a 112w140. The left upper thread frays after 6 inches of sewing. Been doing it since day one. Replaced the entire tension regulator assembly, replaced both rotary hooks, I have different width gauges and all width gauges do the same, left thread frayed. Took the thread out of left needle,leaving everything the same, threaded the right needle sews perfectly. New needles, countless timing checks and minute timing adjustments. It doesn't matter with the thread wt, From tex30 to tex90 needle sizes from size 16 to 23 the same result. According to the manual, the needle bar adjustment is from bdc needle travel up .080 the hook should be centered in the scarf of the needle.

    Great video, very informative! I have a 153W102 and a two needle 154W101 that uses the same system. Looks like your stitch length knob is working correctly. Both my machines have stripped flights the adjuster knob rides in on the arm shaft. It is a weak spot for this family of machines that's worth noting. There is a fix for it however. I'll be working on a video myself to demonstrate how. If you do buy a used one be sure to check it out thoroughly for this malady! Don't buy one online!

    Thank you so much for making this video. I will be asking you a few more questions soon as I've recently acquired a Singer 112w116. It is pretty much identical to yours, except it also has a compound puller-roller feed. Unfortunately the spacing is about 7/8" and I'd like to change it 5/16" but cannot find anybody who sells a gauge set for this family of machines.

    Would you say are pros vs cons of this machine vs a basic walking foot machine? Like the smaller walking foot machines they’re calling “portable”.

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  2 роки тому

      I needle feed sews faster and more smoothly than a walking foot machine. The portable machines like the Sailrites, are different that other industrial walking foot machines in that they are dual transport (feed dogs and outer foot move) not triple transport like a Singer 111, PFaff 545, etc (feed dogs, inner foot and needle move). The choice is going to come down to material thickness and feeding demands. I'd say a needle feed machine is good for most people. What are you going to be using the machine for?

    Just came across your video. Excellent camera work and awesome narrative. Would this be the right machine to sew two individual pieces
    Of vinyl together using a French seam that is typically used in auto and boating upholstry? Thanks again for a quality video.

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  7 років тому

      Thank you! The seam you want is called a "flat felled seam". There are attachments available for double needle machines like this that will for the seam and stitch it together as you go. Very very fast and excellent strength.

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  Рік тому

      I like the Enduro Pro line but any brushless servo will be a big upgrade. I don't think a speed reducer is necessary on these types of machines. The only machine I'd get a speed reducer on is a dedicated veg tan leather machine but that's a whole different world.

    This video was super helpful! I'm seriously considering buying one of these. Question for you - would I have any issues sewing a lighter fabric with a 115? Usually I work with wool flannel (usually 2 layers up to 3 or 4). Thank you!

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  3 роки тому

      It will work with lighter fabric/thread but you may need to adjust the position of the hook to be closer to the needle if it was setup for heavier thread. Youll have to drop the bobbin tension and upper tension to match as well.

      +boat buddy I was going to do a cross country bike tour some years back and need a set of panniers, frame bags, etc. and the only guys that made them were months out on backorder, so I decided to make my own. A couple weeks before I was supposed to leave on my trip I was hit by a car on my motorcycle and broke my hand. I wasn't able to do that trip and ended up riding down the pacific coast instead. After I got back I figured out what changes I wanted to make to my system and decided I wanted to build a "hammock camping kit" as well as a few other items. After that I got a lot more serious about learning to sew and my skills progressed from there.
