I know buffalo bayou isn’t very glamorous but I do wish planners had incorporated it more into the city instead of just building over it with most people not even realizing where it is.
If it was ever a crypt at all , it would have been a really stupid place to be buried that area is renowned for major flooding in my 65 years living a hour South of Houston !
Long time Houstonian who has walked that trail many times. I've seen that door lots of times and never knew what it was for. Not trying to stir anything up because I am a man of science but I have also walked that trail at night and have seen shadows and heard strange noises in that area. Foot steps and voices but no one around to make them. I assumed it was from the upstairs bridge but now I'm having some doubts. You should go there at night and see if you experience anything similar.
Science is simply an explanation of the natural world. The spiritual world is far less observable but equally real. The Bible can give you a glimpse into the spiritual world and also aid in the study of the natural world.
As a kid in the early '70s, we used to have a rope swing on Buffalo bayou. It ran right before behind my best friend's house. A lot of good times there
Howard Hughes and Gene Tierney are both buried in a cemetery in Houston. Hughe's crypt has a (somewhat) dilapidated iron fence around it. When we visited many years ago, someone had left roses on his grave. Thank you for an interesting bit of history!
I ride my bike on those trails. Recently that are seems to be closed to the public as are other nearby areas needing maintenance or repairs, likely due to high water after the rains. Also be cautious as there are several “residents” that live under and around the various bridges. I’ve not had an issue with any of them, but I stick to the trails and don’t poke around in their business. Starting in Memorial park, along the bayou, then through the Hieghts makes a nice loop.
@JewLieShekelstein_MrsMonsanto I don’t recall that. I do remember it being a regular occurrence to have the fire department come and shut the party down for the night, due to the head count (overcrowding). Crawling out of that cave and into the city streets use to just make the trip so much more intense. One night, when we came to the surface (and we were frying), they were filming Terminator 2 in downtown - shooting a scene with a bunch of pyrotechnics - RIGHT THERE, about a block away -- HOLY SHIT 💥💥💥💥💥!!!!
Really enjoy the history and great information on this video ! Very interesting. I live by Corpus Christi and I heard they have underground tunnels on ocean drive.
Why ignore the final wishes of a family's burial site? No matter when it happened, respect of the dead was ignored in place of so called progress in a city developed in the wet lands.
Always been interested in that area, but for other reasons.. That’s very close to the original Hughes skunk works and drill bit facility.. Never knew about the crypt, though..
Glad the bodies were removed and interned to the Glenwood Cemetary, in large part due to a history of flooding from Hurricane's that have hit Houston over the past century. Interesting story, didn't know about the crypt.
Scott I have someone who might want to contact you. Can you put a contact email in your about info for the channel? it would be for a Houston podcast....thanks!
I can appreciate anyone who takes their kid fishing. Not enough of that anymore- But, if you’re fishing the the bayous of the Bayou City (especially downtown), there is much darker secrets than this one. Embrace the moments with your son….just be careful friend.
@@nivlac456you're certainly right. Just before you go under the bridge there's a small stair case that leads to a sub section tucked away and full of homeless people. Noted, and thanks for the well wishes.
That is incorrect as some cannonballs have gunpowder inside of them so they will explode on impact with a target. One way to tell if it is an exploding shell is to roll it around, if you hear something tumbling inside of it then you've found one. Some people have had such a cannonball by their fireplace only to have it heat up due to the fire and explode.
You don't know very much about civil war ordnance. They had many different types of live munitions including exploding cannonballs. Just a few years ago during a road repair near the courthouse live cannon balls were found by construction crews and were detonated by Houston Bomb Squad.
Imagine picking your final resting place just to be robbed of it 30+ years later. Thanks for the video.
I mean, pretty silly, what's to imagine? They're dead.
@@HaveKayaksWillTravel there is nothing in there!!
I wouldn't care, that's for sure.
That will

There would probably be a huge flooding issue
Love the types of stories you profile. Intersection of history, urban planning, oddity, very local and hidden in plain sight. Thank you Scott!
Thanks!
This is so cool! I work a few blocks away, and I'd never heard of it. Thanks for sharing, Scott!
Definitely worth checking out!
How do you get there
Excellent video man, this is what I come to UA-cam for 🙏

Probably haunted!
woah that's creepy-- i run there all the time, hope i never see anything
Go around 3am that’s when you hear more.
I once heard someone crying and whining as we turned the corner to where the noise was we saw no one around but a kitten ran off into the shrubs 😮

The Hughes family graves are kept in immaculate condition.
@@hubriswonk Yes they are, that is a very exclusive and expensive cemetery.
Great vid, this is on my bucket list. I have always wondered how large it was on the inside being a family crypt.
just came across your channel and love these videos! i'm in dallas and wish there were a similar channel for up here, but i can't seem to find any.
I have a whole list of Dallas videos I've been meaning to make!
I also would love to see that. Dallas has a long history of building things over other things. Bet there's interesting stuff down there.

My friend told me about this back in the 80’s. I forgot about it until now.
Same location was used maybe 20 year ago or less as a club, it was underground awesome experience in my teens
What was the name of it
it was called kryponite houston right? i went once as a teen lol
@@luisporras4884 it was called pink monkey then kryptonight
It was once home to a very popular EDM club also named "KRYPTONITE", until Hurricane Harvey destroyed it SMH!

Yeah I remember that I've been to that club before, after they closed the club there use to be people outside screaming selling pizza😂

Anyone else remember Power Tools in that basement?
And all those nights, I thought it was the acid….
Oh yes!!!!!! I was there many, many times!

Tunnels we are finding are networks that go beyond what we thought we knew... it's being disclosed on the news near you ....
0:29 two people were murdered in that same stop a few days ago, and was on the News. 😮
Yeah I remember seeing the news I think it was 3 people tho & recently they found a young boy's body in the Buffalo bayou water not too far from it.

But were you ever in Cafe Mode aka Cafe Commode?
That is a remnant of the Magnolia Brewery. But you spin the yarn well for a wipper snapper.
LIES!!!!!
Stop making stuff up - there is plenty of real history in that area
cool never heard of that one! and am in Houston
WOW! When you said where it was. I said that's Allen's Landing. Hippie hang out in 1970's. Know exactly where it is.
That's kinda screwed up that they moved the family out of their crypt
This is fascinating! Now, I want to go find it. Thanks!
So can you go inside?
Unfortunately no, some people got in during bridge construction but there's nothing but dirt inside!
@ScottDaileyUA-cam thank you for confirming 👍
Those who were at cryptonight know what's up!!! Good times!!
Hell yeah that techno club 🤘🏽
I remember going to the rave night club called Kryptonite that looks like this location.

how do you "explode a cannonball"? its solid iron, not an explosive. cannonballs are not live munitions.😂🍻
