Wow! I make custom resin infused electric guitar tops in Santa Rosa as well. Building my shop off mark west. I love woodworking and have my own mill where I do everything in house. I build furniture, chainsaw sculpture work and nearly anything this is cool. Would love to chat someday. Andrew.
What you are doing with with stabilized tops is amazing! I dont really know what I’m looking at. We’ve got to work this into the Redwood Violin somehow. Email / call me.
Fascinating project making everything. I made a violin from a kitchen worktop and was surprised at how well it sounded. Very interesting about bass bar position, so closer to centre is faster response and further out slower but more power. Would making a larger or heavier bass bar produce a slower response?
its a little surface veneer, a bit under 0.5mm thick. I actually use maple business card blanks that you can get from Etsy. Without that the redwood would not hold up well at all!
@@jchumley57 it will be fine, but there’s no harm in adding the veneer. Also, or instead, you can pre compress the wood a little by burnishing the area. I think that helps stop the post tearing up the top.
I just found out about your project--really awesome!
just got done carving apple neck for myrtlewood violin
Cool! Please send pictures of your project.

It would, but, within limits, it would be louder.
At 8 seconds in, where did you get that Domenico Montagnana 1739 poster?
It came from an Oberlin workshop.
@@redwoodviolin Thanks, I'll go hunting. :)
What did you use for the sound post patch on the top? I had wondered about how the soft redwood would hold up to a sound post

@@redwoodviolin I ask because I'm building my first bass but I'm using spruce. Much harder than redwood.
