This man adds to the story information that is not there. The older brother was upset at the way the younger brother treated - and rightly so. It was not clear the total relationship between them.

I don't believe the story was intending for "rightly so" to be your reaction. It was a parable talking about spiritual pride vs God's infinite mercy.
