The remarks, made in Tokyo where he is meeting with Japan's prime minister ahead of a regional summit Tuesday, were Biden's strongest to date on the issue and come amid rising tensions over China's growing economic and military power. US never had any agreements before invasion to send military troops in Ukraine. Taiwan is different. There was only Budapest memorandum that basically says US will never invade Ukraine under any circumstances, obviously Russia broke that agreement in 2014 and the Minsk agreements.

From the first day the Nationalists set foot on Formosa, the Republic of China government (which is the current Taiwanese government) laid claim to all of China in the same way China today claims it's the only legitimate government of all China (which includes far more than even just today's internationally recognized boundaries and does include all of Myanmar, all of the South China Sea, etc). Except for a few countries, most of the world has followed the US in recognizing China as the single legitimate government of China within the boundaries recognized by and and based on the current World Order. That is what China gained back in the 1970's but today seems to not be satisfied with any previous agreement so we saw what happened to Hong Kong... That China's word is not its bond and China will easily abrogate agreements.

Something that confuses me about this issue is , Why would China want to invade Taiwan? It is part of China and the Taiwanese people are happy with the way the government and trade are going with mainland China. It is as usual, the US interference and financing of rebels which is stirring instability and promoting fear. If the US continues, Taiwan will look like Ukraine except that people can't just run to a neighbouring country the people will have to find boats and risk their lives to get to some place safe. They are safe now and don't want their lives to change. It is the US that wants to control Taiwan and the region and of course the chip industry.

But Taiwan is not even considered an independent country by majority of nations in UN assembly. The whole Quad should give assurances to Taiwan, if any misadventure from CCP is done, they will then fight for their own existence.

There's no way they'll be as strict with China as they were with Russia in terms of sanctions. They won't stop trades, nor block foreign reserves and not will they send military. Because the fight for what's 'morally right' is conditional on how badly it affects their own country.
