Absolutely great idea with that paint. I'm always worried about scratching my body's, but with this it doesn't matter. It actually gets better when you scratch it more!
Yes, the more you use it, the better it looks. And of course you could always mask up the windows and respray it to refresh it :)
Arrma has it on their outcasts too. Its called ''real steel'' its such a nice feature!

Ah.... Don't listen to those who hate on "murder". It is a very common term used in the United States ALL the time. And, it means exactly what you said it means. To black out a car completely in a flat or semi-satin finish. You keep doing you. Keep up the great work!

I was super excited when i bought my Arrma Notorious 6s with the "Real Steel" body that shows silver underneath when you inevitably scratch it all up.
Matt’s off road is my absolute favorite yt channel. This was a great surprise!! I’d love to build a morvair when I have a little more workshop
The truck performed well and looks good as is or weathered. That is an interesting crawling area.

I think the raffle idea is a brilliant way to get this crawler to a lucky viewer, and it supports a good charity. I wish more UA-camrs would do this.

I'm definitely an Element fanboy but I have tried or own just about every crawler on the market lol. Don't get me wrong, I have a few different rigs that I love but the Element platform is hands down my favorite. It's so versatile and you get so much value for your money. Very capable right out of the box, simple to work on, upgrade and maintain. It's just an awesome platform and quality. I'm also a straight axle fan so element just checks all the boxes for me lol.
That's a super cool idea for RC paint on a retro looking body.
Phil , something you could do to enhance the effect. Remove with scotch bright/poly cleaner some of the orange colour from inside of the shell in the places you have scratched the outer so it shows clear.. Then spray silver / gun metal over the orange to make it look like bare metal
The Ecto is the first RTR crawler in the last few years that I was truly impressed in its crawling ability. I stick mostly to pretty scale stuff so this is a step up in ability I think.

I love the General Grabbers that come with Element trucks. Not on Element trucks though. I think they're just too light. I put them on a TRX4 with some brass on the axles and they're awesome tires!
Also I was thinking I was at my limit for crawlers but I can't get enough of this body. Looks like I need another.

they're probably using a rubber paint or a plastic paint on the outside of the wig
I use hair dye on my wigs
I love my ecto black. I did flip it into a rock pirate build with a Fusion pro. But Element rarely disappoints (the 1/24 is absolutely a disappointment in my mind).

that paints a great idea, personally I'd just start a few areas off a little with the sandpaper then let the rest come in all natural likes.. top idea!

Hey Phil, have used any of the hobby wing fusion motors? This truck would run great with even just the Fusion SE.
The dual paint is a great idea and sure wil look better evey time you scratch until it looks like an old beater.
Looking at the photo on the box I suspect you're supposed to sand it off... 🤷
EDIT, I just got to the end of the video.
What works really nice is when you put silver under the body and a colour on top. Then you can weather the body really nicely and add rust colour on top as and when you remove the top coat.
I love the look of this thing, could I take the body of this and whack it on to a more basher/rc frame like the Thunder Tiger K-Rock those two combined would be the sweet spot for me, any help community ? Not a crawler type to use this Element RC
I know! Stand at the top of a ladder and pour several buckets of Hot Wheels cars down onto the bodyshell!

This looks sick Phil! Looks like you may have to work at it pretty hard to weather it out on the trail. Too bad they can’t add that great outdoors smell off gasoline and turned over soil to the paint as it gets scratched LOL!! Guess they don’t really need to , if one doesn’t wash their rc after playing in the brownie batter! 🤪😆! Cheers buddy and great review and demonstration!💯😎

As a traxxas fan' I have got to say this rig has had my eye for a while now. It has a certain kind of look that seems "raw"
It's certainly a good option. The TRX4 Sport is very good, but these Elements stock out the box just offer that little bit extra. Especially with the overdrive options

Just upgraded the casters and knuckles to brass on my element Ecto but, after all reassembled, one of the wheels is slightly toed in, how can I adjust the one wheel on its own, do I need to rotate the new caster even though it’s lined up perfect ?

I think you’re supposed to scuff it with sand paper 😂 but yeah it’s pretty cool I’d be tempted but I’ve been getting into the more expensive stuff like cross rc I’ve also run out of space 😅

This body sort of looks like the doomsday from ecx
that scratch and sniff paint is just a gimmick. you can do that two ways: paint the inside of the clear body red and the outside black or paint the body red first, then black. Then wear would show the red. It's effectively how you add patina to a model or r/c or actually, a full size truck.
I actually use the same effect when people asked for "shabby chic" or antiqued furniture and cabinetry.
10:45 when weathering, you have to think about where a body would wear out naturally. You started out well with the edges of the hood and front but the middle of the door? not really. The hinges would be the first, the body line under the windows, the edges of the door, around the handle etc. Same as the bed: the top rails would be first, then the wheel arches.
When I worked in a cabinet shop the "finisher" didn't get it. He'd just rub anywhere and it looked goofy haha. I brought him out of the spray booth and walked him down the centre driveway where all the shop doors opened. I said "look at the doors, look where they're showing wear, copy that" and sure enough, bottom edges were all beat up, outside edges of the door, around the handle. Now on the INSIDE, the middle of the door was worn from people pushing the door open with their hip.

Its a dream to build their Wrecker, but the cost is way too much for me. Just the winches will cost as much as an RTR truck.
