Picked up the new 5th Edition Dragonlance book, mostly out of a sense of nostalgia (don't even play 5th edition, and I did the same for Ravenloft before it). Can't say I was too pleased with what was in it, even taking into account it was meant for 5th edition.
best advice I could give you for running these modules is drop the npc capsule system have your players play there own character's instead of the pregen's make the refugees more of a rp focus instead of a mechanical focus if a important npc dies just roll with it or make a new npc later and most important be flexible as a dm the module or the books are not the only way the story can play out if your players want to try something that the module doesn't account for just roll with it it might be more fun that way. ps. this has been rambling with smeef
I played AD&D for many years playing in the World of Greyhawk setting. I remember our long time GM asking us about starting another campaign in the Dragon Lance setting. As soon as it was revealed that we would be using pre-rolled characters from the actual books we all said no. The issue we had was first we preferred the Greyhawk setting we had played for many years. Also by using actual characters from the books we understood that the direction and outcome of this campaign was already decided. Where is the adventure when the story and outcome has already been set? It's a stupid idea.
Except using the pregen characters were optional. You could also just use your characters from Greyhawk if you wanted. And the railroaded-ness can be alleviated by using the 13 Dragonlance novel modules as a backdrop and just play around in, maybe follow the DM's hints or not. Or just play it like any other module and fit it in Greyhawk. And the fact that in a lot of the modules have at least more than 1 ending, at least a bad outcome and a happy outcome. Heck the true final module says that if your party loses against BBEG and live, you can still play within the doomed world. Kinda unfortunate you didn't give your DM the chance to playthrough it, but I wasn't there so maybe he made it sound way worse than it was.
@@Moondramon nah, the DL modules were terrible. Unkillable PCs/NPCs, constant railroading so that the "epic" story can be revealed, zero actual player agency. And why would anyone put in the effort to stage this in Greyhawk? I buy modules so that the work is DONE FOR ME, not so that I have to re-write 14 different modules.
Ooh, their next vid is going to be a deeper dive into the wider Ravenloft lore, as witness Harkon Lukas's presence on the cover they used. As a pretty big fan of the Van Richten guide for 5E, I'm really looking forward to this one.
I love you guys these are all excellent and I am deeply excited to see more videos from you continuing with more Dragonlance and/or Ravenloft adventures.
This channel is so under recognized. TTRPG people pump out weekly content (which isn't necessarily bad) but it means they get more recognition. I prefer these more in depth, documentary style videos though
Great video, as always! Anyway, given all the controversy over the last few months, is there any chance you guys will make a video about the history and impact of the Dungeons & Dragons OGL?
Awesome, your doing Ravenloft next? While I do have a little experience in the Dragonlance setting my vast experience as both a player and a DM ( as well as fondest game memories) comes from Ravenloft!
You know, I never really had an interest in Dragonlance, and by extension Planescape. I always preferred running games in Ravenloft (why yes, I did see the preview of the next episode at the end. Why do you ask?) or running my own campaign. Currently working on one that takes place wholly in a city.
Huh, I actually have an old copy of Dragons of Desolation. It was so cringy I never ran it, even though my husband loved the books. I could get some use out of those city bloc cards. Print them out and re-key them to be space cities!
Dragonlance. The only campaign world we ever used since 1986. Tried Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms and so on and that was dreadful. AD&D and AD&D 2nd edition still used. Tried every edition of the game but the other editions are quite bad. The latest, 5th edition are the worst.
Man, Dragonlance sucks BALLS. Not to degrade its place in DnD history, nor to even besmirch its loyal fans. I mean specifically, for me, Dragonlance is such an annoyingly bad setting. It's like they walked in and decided to just systematically remove every single thing I love about DnD and either say "it just doesn't exist here" or "it's so different to be unrecognizable". Lovable halflings replaced by inusfferable kender, badass orcs replaced with doofy fucking budget dragonborn, and adventures that are glorified theme park rides where you just walk through a hallway and go "ooh, ahh" at all the cool NPCs doing things that you don't get to do, because they're so married to the fucking story they're marketed with. And I swear to god, I cannot fathom how anyone on the planet can defend the creation of gulley dwarves, even back then. There's no "it was a different time!" there, gulley dwarves are just the absolute worst thing anyone has ever created and i can't create a situation in my head where they at all need to exist in the way they do. Those things are embarrassing. I mean, you should keep making these videos, obviously, because again, it's DnD history and it's important, but boy it is like taking medicine watching videos about Dragonlance stuff just because I love DM It All and I want to support them.
The setting seems very interesting, but I don’t see why anyone would want to play the modules. Literally playing a book doesn’t seem like fun with how railroad’y it is as you keep pointing out.
Ah, finally! My favorite D&D channel returns!
Always makes my day when they post
I was worried they were dead! I love their videos!
This channel is a treasure.
Agreed !
And it's gone again...
Getting a DM It All video is like rolling a Nat 20. It doesn't come up often but when it does, it's great.
The modular dwarven city tiles sound like a good resource, even for modern DnD. A DM could print out the tiles and rearranged them as they like.
I have no idea how the best DnD channel out there doesnt have more views

@@ILoveEvadingTax Exactly.
DM it All and Dragonlance. This is shaping up into a great Friday!
When I ran this series a couple of years ago, Verminard was one-shotted by a character with the vorpal sword gained in the previous adventure.
This has to be one of the best D&D channels. I wish the creator(s) all the best in their endevors.
Love your channel, love this video, thank you so much! It's nice to see you care more about Dragonlance than WotC does.
Glad to see both another video from you, and more Dragonlance.
Those modules were gems! Brings back fond memories!
The production quality on these videos is 🔥👏🎲🙏
Nice to see more Dragonlance.
I hope you get to do some videos on some pathfinder modules or other dnd modules as well. Love your informative material
Best TTRPG channel on UA-cam.

Can't say I was too pleased with what was in it, even taking into account it was meant for 5th edition.
Looking forward to next session... in another 6 months or so, I guess.
Absolutely nothing like the feeling of getting a DMitall notification!

All good advice. Tailor it to your needs. That's what it's All about

Even back in the day, it was obvious the railroad was a bad idea.

Then ask your DM from back then why you should use the pre-rolled characters. You did not have to.
@@Bluecho4 So in which adventure/campaign is there no railway?

I still have all of the first edition TSR Dragonlance books I purchased in the 1980s. Great stories and old man.

Beautiful! Glad you're back!
Love this channel. Thank you for another informative review!
Love your walkthroughs. Thanks.
Never really got into Dragonlance from the tabletop rpg angle, but did pretty much enjoy SSI games and the books.
MORE DRAGONLANCE.
THUMBS UP.
Glad you're back! Love your videos
I love all your Dragonlance content, thank you!

Let's gooooooo. Also see you in 7 months
I dream of the day in which you will cover Spelljammer stuff from AD&D!
I keep forgetting I'm subscribed to this channel, and am pleasantly surprised every single time a new video goes up.
The massive gaps of story in books 2 and 3 always drove me insane. Probably why I like the Twins trilogy a lot better than the original.
Return of the king!
These two modules are amazing if you have a good DM and we played them with Verminaard and without him. Works just fine.
Great work, as always.
Man this channel is so good. I
anutha1, listening to this while heading to bed but I can't wait to hear this
Looking forward for the next video! ^^
Gully Dwarves! Gully Dwarves everywhere!
Will they be in every Module of the campaign? I dread the answer...
I remember the problem with these modules was being super rail-roady by trying to follow the story lines of the Dragonlance novels.
is this "problematic"?
@@danielleglorie8164 Yes.

welcome back!
Yeeeees!!! A new video, finally!!!
Miss you

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
👏👏👏
It's too bad this adventure has so many cutscenes and plot-armored npcs. Who wants to play a game where their actions don't matter?
You should do some videos where you outline the history of classic dnd monsters
I am glad that you are covering the original series. The 5th Edition version is a pale shadow of the original. Definitely not worth getting at all.
26:25 ludo narrative dissonance anyone?
I pick up an NPC and tie him to my chest. Then I walk towards the dragon.
Ember! You will remember.
AWESOME
I remember trying to read the novels but feeling VERY confused. Does these adventures take place between each of the books?
missed u babe
phew! I thought this channel was abandoned
Can't wait till you get the elven woods

Yknow whenever we get to a bit about the Gully Dwarves I can’t help but feel I’m reading a excerpt from a Hitler Dwarf.
"Fist and Dan Tilus"
HUZZAH
What's weird is that these adventures seem to have very little loot.
the stuff worth skipping? ALL OF IT!
8:16 How?
"Mighty Fortress" is a spell that allows wizards to literally summon a castle.
Please review the 2023 movie, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Is it just me or is the Dragonlance setting eerily similar to Critical Role's 1st campaign?
Dragonlance. The only campaign world we ever used since 1986. Tried Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms and so on and that was dreadful. AD&D and AD&D 2nd edition still used. Tried every edition of the game but the other editions are quite bad. The latest, 5th edition are the worst.
