Enjoyed your review. Bought one of these today. It's a prepper back up unit; I may never actually use it. For things I may never use I prefer to spend less money but achieve some functionality. It was competing in my mind with the Leatherman Signal; they both have the fire steel and whistle. I agree with you that the Spark version of these functions looks superior. If I was looking for something to use a lot, I'd probably pay more and get a Leatherman.
I know this video is about the Roxon, I'm just sharing what I feel the sweet-spot of a multitool is: * the plyers & scissors of the Leatherman Surge * all removable/exchangeable blades, files, and saws (helps with TSA, and replacement) * Leatherman bit-kit compatible * no redundant flat heads * an awl
I think the can opener and bottle opener is similar to one SAK had awhile back. I think the hang ups multi tool have is they had tools that were necessary for very basic camping and for the armed forces in years past. Those same tools are not as necessary for urban use. Personally I want one for the camp site/hike, one for the construction/maintenance scenario, one for just an office setting.
Another great review, Ben! I have decided against this one. It looks nice, I like the reamer and the ferro rod on it, but I know that once I get it, I will not like it. The Storm feels robust in my hand, this one seems a little iffy, too much flex, low grade steel, short saw, not sure about the lock for the short implements, flat Phillips driver. I might get it one day. We'll see.
I bought the Ozark Trail you reviewed and I can say right out the box defective. Couldn't close after opening .I will be returning back to Wal-Mart .Spend the extra 20 and get the Leatherman .I know it's a matter of cost for most of us.
If u r just starting out with this EDC stuff and want to go cheap with a multi tool...this is perfect for you...the fire starter works real good...it’s not as cheaply as the video would want u to think made the guy doing the video really isn’t giving it any justice
I don´t get why they put bottle cap lifters at all in multitools. If you can´t open your beer with the pliers then you don´t deserve a beer 😉 @TX Tool Crib keep on the good work 👍
One I'd buy just for the original design. I don't know why they put knives on multitools, even the best can't match pocket knives for ergonomics. Anyone who carries a multitool should carry a pocket knife too.
I understand knives on multitools, lots of people don't want to carry multiple items for EDC purposes. However, I would love to see some options with less or zero knives for more dedicated activities; I have no need for the blade on my tool when I'm camping for example, since I'll already have multiple other blades on me. Or for when I use to work in maintenance, I would always use a utility knife because I don't have time to sharpen my blade multiple times during a work day. In instances like those I would much rather have something like outside accessible scissors, or firesteel or anything else. I'd also like to see more multitools without can openers as well.
Matthew Doye Philadelphia knife laws are wacky. “No person shall use or possess any cutting weapon upon the public streets or upon any public property at any time.” You could probably get by ok with a multitool though or at least have a better chance. They define “cutting weapon” very loosely.
@@SteveD12 It allows courts to define cutting weapon on a case by case basis. What might not be a weapon any other time gets used as one, say a decoraters tool, then that's a charge they can use. It also allows for a defence, something that can cut could be legitimately carried especially if it was used for one's normal work. You're right, a multitool could well be looked better on than some other knives.
@@jayjayhooksch1 I agree with most of that. Here in the UK we have the Rebar knifeless because there was a concern that the bladed version could run afoul of our over strict knife carry laws. Can openers, bottle openers, and corkscrews top my list of almost pointless items.
Aesthetically, it's a thing of beauty. The little engine that almost could. Tool steel sucks. Entry level first buy to me is still the Wingman or Sidekick. Extra $$ would be well spent.
3cr is so soft they should of just not bothered with a blade ,3cr has no business ever being a blade. I would never recommend this. 25 dollars is a horrible price point for a tool that is worthless and mangled after its first use. I hate that garbage stuff like this muddys up the market
I really like your reviews but please do not review any more Chinese products. It's time to do what's right. I encourage everyone to boycott reviews of Chinese products.

I think a lot of people would agree with those points. Thanks for your thoughts.

Good review, intetesting tool...for the price :)
Thank you.

The reason I carry a Leatherman myself.
Hi. Could You review Leatherman Leap? I'm almost positive about the idea of buying it for my son, but i would like to listen professional review.
The only one I have is my stepson's, and he beat it up quite a bit. I was trying to locate a new or slightly used one for a review.
Good backup for the tackle box( fishing) & that's all
I could agree with that.
I have (had) one, but found it lacking. I have it away.
I understand.
Cool 😎

Beats me why they do it, it’s not like we don’t have enough.
Their pliers don’t look as bad as Gerber’s, with their telescoping pliers with all that play.
Thanks for researching the steel. A cheap crappy steel will let down even a good innovative design.
It's a pull stroke saw
It is.
One I'd buy just for the original design.

You’ve got to be kidding me! When were those laws implemented?

Nice dry wall saw. Lol

Yeah, that about sums it up.
So you are better off getting a Vic Spartan and a cheap set of pliers, no surprise honestly.
Yeah......
"Back to the drawing board boys!"
Yep
I like the aesthetics of it but those cheap steels and poor performance would make me pass on it.
I know what you mean.

in other words, don't waste $25 for a piece of sh!t.
Yeah, that’s my thinking. There are much better tools out there for not a whole lot more.
I really like your reviews but please do not review any more Chinese products. It's time to do what's right. I encourage everyone to boycott reviews of Chinese products.
It’s funny you mention that, because I have been having the same sentiment lately.
That is going to limit things quite a bit.
So it is a camping multitool like the ozark trail is; still id take the ozark trail instead as they keep improveing theirs.
Seems like that is the target demographic.
Cool 😎
