    I remember when the whole focus was getting the "Payload" into space, and into the intended orbit. Now the major focus is retrieving the hardware that you launched the payload with. And a whole different set of technical challenges.

    Awesome. Huge success. The starship flaps are still suffering some burn through. Some design changes needed there, but minor changes will solve this. Well done Spacex

    It would certainly be better if you planned the landing stage during full daylight conditions. Not only for publicity purposes but actual visual confirmation of the starship itself.

      It's landing on the other side of the planet. It's going to be dark one way or another. You could see the 1st stage be caught, that's all that really matters. The 2nd stage was always going to be lost in the ocean.

    Okay my question is if it landed down how are they going to retrieve the ship if it was in the ocean and on top of that house anybody going to live a big lands in the ocean and you can't retrieve it

      No, SpaceX ended up using steel instead of carbon fiber because steel can support much higher temperatures. Steel plus small heatshield weighs less than carbon fiber plus big heatshield. Elon called this fact counter intuitive back in the days when SpaceX dropped carbon fiber for steel.

      It was the fuel fumes that suffered pressure from the landing. All planed, not a RUD =)

      It’s an ablative shield. So stuff falling off is part of the design

      @@teej008 The ablative stuff is underneath the tiles. Ablation is supposed to be a last resort in the case that the tiles have failed.

      Actually landing on the ocean makes for a good home for fishes. (The ship's carcass). The fuel thats spilled is minuscule, and almost all of it explodes upon contact. And lastlythe flight path is directed away from natural habitats of endangered species, so there is basically no harm done
