10 years ago ULA and Arianespace said reusable rocket technology was a waste of time. Today, SpaceX launched and landed a rocket larger than Saturn V.

So that you will understand, the largest American military transport plane is the C-5 Galaxy, and it can carry 6 city buses at one time. If you take just the cargo floor length of a C-5M fuselage, it would slide, like a fancy cigar, neatly into the tube of the SpaceX Super Heavy Booster that they caught from mid air in south Texas this morning. 10/13/2024

@@Denvermorgan2000 The flames came from the Quick Disconnect Ports. Something broke there. The blackish smoking out of some engine bells and molten metal dripping down from engine compartment minutes after landing shows how stressing the reentry/supersonic time was. The engine bells were glowing red before landing burn started ;)
But they can investigate it. Maybe even later today!

I have been after Elon a bit lately due to his crazy Trump support, his Twitter destruction and his refusal to actually let Tesla build cars, but there is no denying that what SpaceX does is both amazing and cool.

Twitter is not destroyed, its making more profit than ever and proved that it was overstaffed by management class sucking the company dry of any profit (the very fact that it was in debt of 3.5 billion before Elon bought it and somehow people said it was doing good proves it was all smoke and mirrors prior to his purchase of the company) . There was no refusal for Tesla to build cars, where did you hear that amazingly false news? And yes, SpaceX is awesome.

@@JasonWoods-ed7yu If you always challenge conventions, you will tend to get most things wrong, but once in a while you will actually come up with a great idea becuause nobody else dared to try. If you look at all that Elon has suggested or attempted then he is actually wrong most of the time when it comes to technical matters. But he is really good at spotting trends.
There is still a long way to go before Starship is a viable rocket, but he deserves credit for making the tower landing work.
