Saw them in '85 in Golddiggers, Chippenham. They were late coming on and after waiting ages at the front, me and my mate decided to grab a burger. Of course they launched into the first number just as we'd got our food...still managed to "pogo" our way back to the front though! A great gig.
Nice memories there. Gold Diggers was probably a better sized venue for them at that stage. In 1985, trying to play the Hammersmith Odeon twice in six months was crazy looking back on it.
Remember this Gig and Queen of Torture, in particular, very well! I'd forgotten just how good, Spams voice was. Wasn't very keen on Raw to the Bone at the time, but there's some really catchy tunes on there:-)
Yes I liked it at the time, except for the lack of twin guitar solos! Did they play Queen of Torture? I don't remember them playing that, but it would have really suited Spam's voice. Good hear from someone at the show!
The Ash played more than one old tune at the December '85 gig. Great but Andy used a strat. when they opened with Don't Come Back and it droned out front instead of getting that fast picking banjo effect . Perfect Timing is a great number. I got to meet a visiting Martin Turner before catching my train and told him Live Dates 2 sounded great. I also reminded him of the Auckland Western Springs Stadium gig where Steve Upton was arrested. He remembered it well.
Some great memories there, thanks. There were quite a few old songs; like you said they opened with DCB and I recall Jailbait, Bad Weather Blues and Phoenix, which at the June gig they'd swapped for FUBB. Still got the full setlist I wrote down somewhere. The support was Bernie Marsden's Alaska which I was very into at the time, and that made the gig even better for me.
Yes you could say the same for Trevor Bolder's P.Bass, I guess. The bass didn't fill out the middle so well as Martin's when the two leads were going at the same time.
I went to see wishbone at Hammersmith. And they said something that every rock fan doesn't want to hear.. We are going to play a Few Tunes from our latest Album They played 1 classic 70s tune and the rest of the night was stuff i had no interest in.
+skawashers So you were the other bloke in the stalls? Well, there're at least two classic 70s tunes in this here playlist of four. Both nights they opened with Don't Come Back, which sounded very good as I recall, and they also played FUBB, Jailbait, Phoenix... But after all it was the mid eighties, and that was the furthest a lot of those bands got away from the 70s before they all started reforming and going backwards again.
+hellochicago2 I had seen wishbone ash do a warm up at the Marquee . And it was all the Greatest hits . So i was expecting more of the same. A same story when i went to Jethro tull in about 1988. Wanting a full hits package . But instead we got a Tepid assault on the ears .
+hellochicago2 How can you tell im a Bonzo fan by looking at my sparse Profile ? Bonzos. I went to the 2008 Astoria Reunion concert. Anything after that I haven't bothered with . The Reunion Concert was as good as it could get . So i didnt want to over egg the Pudding by seeing a weaker concert
+skawashers Happened to be watching Son of Exploding Sausage and by sheer chance saw your positive comments on that. They were good fun last night, plus The Rutles of course. And this time we weren't inflicted with Stephen Fry, which was an improvement.

I never thought Spence's Fender Precision Bass suited the band, great singer though.

Steve Sut Mervyn's vocals are too yelpy. Like a poor man's Geddy Lee.
