I tried growing fig a couple of years ago and I didn't succeed. I'm having another go (just now). I have a Mango tree doing well this year. I don't think it will survive a British winter, but i like the colour of the leaves. I will persevere... thank you for the lovely and gentle explanation 🙏🏽 blessings
This is one year ago my uncle used to wrap his fig with four post and plastic wrap and we filled it up with leaves. We raked up off the ground and it did very well as protecting it.
Actually in Russia, if you have the window where sun comes in, it is fantastic. I lived in Rostov, i grew Indian Red chilies in the window in my dormitory.
I'm not sure if you've figured this out by now, but unless you have the native pollinators and caprifigs in your area, your seedling will not be able to ripen fruit for you. The fruit will swell in size, hold for a couple months, and then drop off when not pollinated. If you want fruit, you'll need to propagate from cuttings of fruitful varieties. Otherwise, seeds would need to be specifically selected from a cross with a "persistent" caprifig, which are not used in fig orchards, but are necessary for breeding. It's still a lovely plant and getting a nice fig tree from seed is no easy task. Well done!
I just received haprophylla fig seeds, originally from Caledonia and from a Portuguese store. Your video was one of the first to appear, I benefited from your experience, you are wonderful in your presentation, and you are wonderful in your beauty
6 months ago I planted plum stones and nectarines, same as you Kat and having watched your video, noticed sprouting twiglets appearing out of the damp soil I used. Now in December with freezing conditions outside and snow, I brought them into the lounge and have seen them put on a good foot in height . So here's hoping they keep growing and next year if we get a summer, they can go outside on my balcony and grow into fruit making plants?
Here in New York, Italians love to grow fig trees but they are used to a warmer Mediterranean climate. If you don't cover the trees with plastic over the winter, they won't survive. I love figs, but not having the proper climate makes them too much trouble to grow. Still I'm sure Katsiaryna enjoyed the experience of growing them from seed. I like the relaxing 🎵 music and soothing voice. Well done video.
Totally true what you say about Italians in New York growing figs. I grew up with fig trees, someone always had at least one or two. My brother's mother-in-law has two in these giant garbage cans that she has to bring in every winter, they are in New York. I've started the tradition of growing figs myself with my partner in Florida. The climate is more suitable for them here. We've had some nice figs! It's cool we get a chance to propagate them too now I have little babies. 😄
An excellent job of propagation. It will be interesting to see the outdoor plants growth in later video's. The big one indoors? a hole in the ceiling perhaps !!
Thank you! The big one is so good that I was afraid of moving it to the open, planning to see what will happen with those in the open and then decide on this one) it is growing like a monster, especially right now)
you get lots of shoots start to grow from the root around the trunk of the, sometimes it be too many its probably best to them. We grows figs in Madeira [Portugal] usually they grow very dry soil, but figs are very delicious even the ones grow in London, at the end of the summer when we get more rain we try to pick the figs that are ripe and almost ready to eat because rain causes the figs to swell so much that the figs skin cracks open and become less sweet and really nice to eat.
Thank you for the tips! I am still curious of what happened to those I planted in the open) though winter was very cold) I love eating figs and it is my dream to grow one of my own)

@@KatsiarynaTerehova Seeds from dried figs will sprout well, if figs are naturally dried, not cooked. Select only those seeds, that sink to the bottom, when soaking 24H. I over winter my figs outdoors under thick (at least 1 m) snow pile in Estonia. Sure you can grow figs outdoors in Belarus too.
Have you tried pomegranates yet? They require roughly the same care as figs do. But they will need more light than figs, otherwise they will grow too leggy.

Cuttings grow best and most reliably, because it’s a exact clone of the parent. When growing from seeds you can end up with Smyrna, San Pedro, or a common fig. Only common figs produce main crop figs.
@@briancrispano828 Not exactly the truth. All types of female figs can produce main crop. Some types (Smyrna, San Pedro) need a fig wasp and nearby caprifig to pollinate. without caprification their main crop figlets just drop before ripening. Manual pollination does also the trick, if you have pollen (a caprifig as a source).
