Best episode of 'Dude, I love...' yet. Super informative.
Agreed. The guy really knew his stuff. Unique truck too!
Came here to say this! His perspective about the available speed in low range was really informative.
Yeah, no contest.
This guy's no dimwit, like some.
I’m not a fan if buying Half a truck. But I got a family of 4.
I wish all guys who worked at the dealer knew their stuff like this guy.
Unfortunately there is not enough customers that appreciate the knowledge. Most of us with a passion and knowledge about the product lose out to the slick "If-I-coulda-would-ya" sales people. Each month the top salespeople in our dealership were those who didn't know the difference between an axle ratio and Axl Rose. I fell victim to this all the time: I would spend hours teaching about the Jeep they were interested in, explaining Jeep's unique 4wd systems, suspensions, off-road capability, and the Jeep lifestyle, only to have them buy from some Slick-Willie across town who was $50 cheaper.
It always amazes me when I talk to salesmen at dealers, I very seldom encounter one that has as or more much knowledge as I do about the product they are trying to sale me.
Nathan McDonald, exactly. When they do have the same knowledge base, that’s the dealer I go with. Granted there are only two of each dealership in my town, but still. It’s refreshing to hear someone who has done their homework as I have, as a new vehicle buyer.
Pretty dumb and useless video
Yeah super reliable vehicle. Not a single issue with it. Bitch only used it for 13 months.
This owner knows his stuff.
He does! I'm a Canadian resident too....I hope he knows to mud flaps on it and undercoat it well with Fluid Film. Would be a shame to see such a nice truck rot before its time.
@@TheBeatenPaths Fords are aluminium now so it I'm pretty sure it can't rust
@@AustinC2838 frames, steering components, axles, etc are still steel. And aluminum still corrodes - especially with dissimilar metals in construction.
Stephen Molzer Huh. Didn’t know they still use some steel. Interesting
@@AustinC2838 yep, they finally went to a fully-boxed high-strength steel frame a few years back to try and remedy their frame cracking issues. I think it was the same year they introduced the aluminum body, if I'm not mistaken. Some of the weight savings from the body (only about 400lbs for a crew cab versus steel body) was transferred into strengthening the frame.
Bubbles has great taste in trucks
Thomas Gulick it took me about 15 seconds into him talking to hear the resemblance. Somethings fucky! Lol
Thomas Gulick 😂😂😂😂😂
Whole reason I came to the comments, had to see someone mention Bubbles' name lol.
@@weezyfbaby8789
Who's Bubbles?
@@Sig721Tau Bubbles is a character off a Canadian t.v. show called Trailer Park Boys. And this guy sounds a lot like him when he talks.
Just bought a regular cab Ram..... best part , the family never says “let’s take your truck”
Marc Guevara I drive a reg cab long bed, I may not carry many people but somehow I’m always moving something Hahahaha
If you bought new I assume it's the Ram Classic? I wonder if Ram will make a regular cab in the new design......
Yes, a Ram classic... it’s such a good design, still looks good10 years after its release.. but i do hope Ram makes a regular cab based on the newer design.
@@marcguevara162 Thanks. I agree it still looks great. I need a height adjustable seat though and for some reason Ram dropped that option on the regular cab Classic. The F-150 has it with the 301A option but the cab has very little storage behind the seats. Plus the Ram rides better IMO. So I've been hoping the new Ram design is adopted
Good one!
Boy. This guy knows his Fords. Impressive, frugal, focused build
Cool to see he added the Raptor torsen front diff. Dude knows his stuff about the various packages, smart very smart. Well done Sir. 30k in USD would be a sweet price for all he got.
FNTony 496 sure is. If i were to buy new, this is the type of setup I would want to run.
I had and old Mercury Mountaineer with the 5.0 great engine.
@Guy Thompson He said he paid 40k Canadian with the torsen diff and tires from the dealer. That's about 30k USD before tax, + fees etc.
I bet you've gotta shop around to get a deal like that, this is the guy that would shop around
@@dustinhargrove2129 He said in the beginning that he was working at the dealership at the time that he bought this, so I'm sure he got a deal on the price.
Guy Thompson As someone who works at a Ford dealer right now (Owner of a 19 F150 Supercrew) the rebates on new trucks is a lot. I got mine in Truck Month and it was almost $10,000 off sticker MSRP! I’m assuming Canada has similar programs so he probably got some ridiculous discounts.
Awesome.
The single cab's have been missed for a while.
I enjoyed mine.
in Floridia we have so many brand new regular cabs...
My only complaint on mine is I cant fit a toothpick behind the seat and if I put a toolbox in the bed then I cant shut the tailgate when I haul stuff like my quad.
@@ricochetey I sold mine because of the storage. Now I have the extended cab, a 2019.
@@kurtzgarfield358 I went from newer model extended cab to older single cab because the nearest single cab on the lot was 570 miles away, at least the older model has low miles, its 2000 k3500 that has 28,000 miles for 2000$ a few months ago, damn mint truck with the 7.4 V8, 4 speed auto, 4.11 gears, 25,000 lb gooseneck hitch, factory locking axle, factory 6 speaker tape/CD combo deck with an aux port, manual t-case, power+heated seats, mirrors windows, hydro-boost brakes, XG torsion bars, CS144 alternator, snow plow prep package, and tow hooks.
I have a 2001 silverado single cab and the utility is awesome, but I do miss having that extra space with an extended cab like the farm truck I drove when I first got my ah license
I wish Ford dealers would have these on their lots!
Ray Morin They do, but you have to look.
Ray Morin I call them Pawpaw trucks. Every dealer should have them in XLT trim with the regular V6. Too many crew cabs in stock.
Usually you’ll see a base model xl 2wd in the regular cab configuration. You most likely need to special order one like his. Or get lucky
Ray Morin they dont sell
None of my local dealers carry these on the lot. They say if you want a standard cab you must order it. The closest dealer I found that had any in stock was almost 80 miles away.
“Frigg off Randy!”

I love that truck set up man this guy knows everything about trucks I’m very surprised
True, this guy knows his sh!t
He bought a Ford F-150, why are you surprised he knows his stuff?
I agree, the configuration is really nice.
He worked at a ford dealership why would it be a surprise
Mitchell Salcedo Are you serious when was the last time you spoke to a person that knew much of anything about the business they were in I’ve had very poor luck with this glad you have a good opinion of them
Ford need to hire this man in a Public Relations role! He would be FANTASTIC for ride-alongs with journalists at drive events. I’ve been beside corporate folks at an event who couldn’t tell me the first thing beyond comfort features in a vehicle. Guaranteed this guy knows the F-150 beyond anyone outside the Ford engineering team.
This is definetly the ultimate offroad Ford. I wish this was a factory option.
There's still so much aftermarket shit he can add to it, it's great.
@@Lexman00 While there is plenty of aftermarket, swapping in a Torsen front differential (one with the same gear ratio as the rear) is a very pricey proposition. It sounds like the only factory configuration offering it is a 'Raptor', in which case you'll pay a LOT more and get other options that you may prefer NOT to buy.
@@gregparrott I understood he was referring to the Ford torsen limited slip differential that sells for $700.
@@Lexman00 Yes, you are right. Is $700 the cost as an option when buying the truck, or is that the price to buy one over the counter?
@@gregparrott I believe he had the dealer install just the differential Ford Performance:M-4204-F150LS
This is the perfect truck, small, 4x4, nice tires, Beefy V8 and classic column shifter😍😍
jakub wasilewski I had 3 fords... 2 explorers and 1 expedition... all 98-2000 models... I LOVE the old school ford column shifter
jakub wasilewski EVERY truck should have a column shifter.
@@brad8665 you misspelled manual transmission :3
0xsergy I love Manuals but really I’m spoiled by an automatic now for a daily. Just drop it in drive and go. But I’ll re phrase that all automatic trucks should have a coulmn shifter.

You should hire that guy on TFL too he knows his stuff lol
Love people who know what they want and can walk you through their thought process.
I have the exact same truck only difference is mine is a 2017. Fx4 5.0 short bed regular cab blue jean blue. Love it.
What an awesome truck! Finding a regular cab in almost any configuration, from any manufacturer is a chore.
Very knowledgeable truck guy.
I love when people know that their speed is off by a percentage and not mph amount
GETaYOTA I agree, when you change tires and what not it’s always a percentage. But then you get something weird like my ‘09 Hyundai Sonata that I had that the speedometer was 5 km/h too high across the board. It would jump up quickly when you started moving and would read 105 to go 100 km/h. I never understood this.
@@2424Goldie so they don't get sued for "causing" speeding tickets most companies do something like that stock, reads about 5 over.
Because metric, every canadian knows what 110kmh feels like. A lot easier than dealing with miles and shit
The Tranquil Tiger as if every American doesn’t know what 70 mph feels like?
Jesus Christ this man knows his trucks. I feel like this was an educational video. Sharp truck, Jay. Congrats.
That man is the most Canadian Canadian I've seen lol..I love it
He won’t be alone as a single cab shorty when he travels to Mexico.
He sounds like Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys
Lmfao, I knew there was something about him that I just couldn't put my finger on haha.
decent...
Decent!
Its just a light east coast accent lol
Project A.D.D which East coast?
I've actually never seen this type of f150 before.
Get him on part 2 where you actually go off-road somewhere.
This is why Ford is the top selling truck. There are so many configurations.
I've got a 2017 Ford F-150 XLT supercab 2WD with 5.0 / 6 speed. Now has 116,000 km. Not a single problem to date. No oil consumption issue with the 5.0 V8 either. Average fuel economy on the trip MPG meter never reset since the truck was purchased is 20.4 MPG absolute average city/highway. 800km range with the standard small (86 L ?) fuel tank. Very impressive for a full size truck. And I would not consider myself to be a "Ford guy"... never owned a Ford truck before, in fact, this is my first truck. It was 36,300 $ off the lot, with the discounts, and since it was a 'last year' model, with mostly 2018s on the lot. Will agree on the power to weight ratio, especially with the lightweight basic 2WD "work" truck, a Mercedes C300 'Compressor' cannot take it until 85 MPH, when the aerodynamics of the Mercedes win out.
This is what a real truck looks like
To the owner if you happen to read this, but you mentioned the fuseable link is good for 100A. Pretty much any winch big enough to recover your truck (or any vehicle) is going to draw way over 100A. You're going to want to wire it straight to the battery, and if you do use a fuse (which is typically not done on a winch) you'll want at least a 500A fuse.
Loved this guys knowledge and his presentation of his truck. He knew his stuff and he didn't puff up a buch of expensive stuff, great review here, thank you Steven
One of the few true pickups left. Not a grocery-getter with a bed.
It looks like an old school short bed pickup, the chrome too! Just like old trucks!! I want a truck just like this one someday!
This guy REALLY knows his truck!
These types of people are the ones I don't mind being on the road with.
That’s just about $31,000 US🇺🇸 FYI
T T niiiiice
That is actually a good price for such an off roader.
The msrp is 47,000
@@adenseay7406 yes $47k CAD is like $35k USD (as of March 2nd, 2020)
Correct. You can get a reg-cab with the Sport or STX package for mid 30's very well equipped.
Some TFL viewers will be too young to know that you used to be able to customize any ordinary car from the factory just about as much as you can customize a full size pickup today.
I bought mine partially because of this video 👍
Its like an exotic , don’t see many.
but still does a lot
That's cool to hear!
These are my favorite segments from TFL, thanks for sharing!
I love that truck I work in final assembly at the plant ( 1 of 2 plants that builds F150 ) at my plant we build maybe 5-10 of these a day maybe that could be different at the Kansas City Plant as my plant does mostly higher spec trucks and 4 doors
Dearborn truck rocks.. DTP! Keep up great work.
Got to take the Rouge tour last year, even bought me a hat.
Richard Mahoney anything weather need to know? How bad are they making these and how bad are they ripping us off how much should they really cost?
I work at kcap on the transit side. But I dont see too many regular cab short beds roll off the other side. I'd say more than 10 but can't be much more than that.
Chris Darby that’s cool to talk to someone who works at the sister plant to mine. We actually take bets me and some the other bosses on how many regular cabs we’ll build today lol. Most I ever seen was around 40 in a day due to some issue at your plant usually 5-10 is it for us
Short bed/single cab trucks just look so good
love how old school that truck is
If I have only 1 vehicle, RCSB is it!
Short wheelbase trucks need to make a comeback
Short bed, regular cab trucks need to make a big comeback.
If I have only 1 vehicle, RCSB is it!
This guy needs to train Ford salesmen. I bought my 2017 5.0 XL 4X4 shorty after watching this. It fits my needs perfectly; I love it!
I love this guy because, (1) he knew exactly what he wanted. (2) he knew how to get it. (3) he got it!.
Perfect! Love single cab trucks!
Yes. If I have only 1 vehicle, RCSB is it!
Regular cab short bed is my favorite spec. The Tremor 2011-2014 had the 3.5 Ecoboost with 4:10 gears
Another satisfied Ford customer!
Regular cab short bed. The best truck trim for daily drive. Awesomeness
This guy is awesome. I feel like he's my spirit animal when it comes to vehicles. I appreciate a dude that knows his stuff. Amazing truck. I enjoy my Blue Jeans F150 Screw 2.7EB. Would rather have the regular cab, but.....kids.
one4uf why is it blue jeans?
KReGaDeTH the color is officially known as “Blue Jeans”. It’s a metallic dark blue.
Best colour ever offered
Before this video I had no Idea my work truck had two storage boxes in the middle jump seat
If you look over your shoulder there is a big open thing they call the truck box. You can use it to hold big items. Handy!
This man is a truck genius!
I had an 05 RC FX4 5.4 leveled on 315/70-17 BFG AT KO's for a daily from 06-16. I bought it a year old with 15k on it for right at 18 grand and sold it with 95k miles. It had the cam phaser tick that sounded like a 7.3 powerstroke idling. Other than that it never had a problem. I love the look of regular cab trucks but without a bench seat they aren't very family friendly. A lifted regular cab on large tires/ small wheels is best to me.
This guy was great! Very informed consumer! Love it.
On a side note, never understood the deck bed storage, but to each their own.
This beauty reminds me of the Chevy/GMC Z71 regular cabs of the late 80s and early 90s. Beautiful truck man!!!!!!!!
If I have only 1 vehicle, RCSB is it!
They don’t make them like they used to! 2018 was the last year for regular cab shortbox for Z71. Sure would be nice to see again here in the USA.
My 2011 F150 XL fleet truck with a Tommy lift is a total sleeper. 2wd, 8' bed, heavy duty tow package, 3.5l ecoboost, locking differential. It flat out hauls ass. Best $10k I have ever spent!
I love regular cabs. I drive a 2001 F150 regular cab. Got it for $6k five years ago. Only one previous owner and only 100k miles. When I wash and wax it people ask if I had it repainted or restored. At least once a month someone will offer to buy it from me.
That’s a beauty truck thanks for the Canadian content Elmer
Regular cab for life!!! This one is done right! ✅
Once again, Ford leads the way when it comes to trucks. I'm a GM owner, and I love my Sierra, but Ford is willing to offer more choice than any other manufacturer. It certainly will be a factor in my next vehicle.
Really is a rare sight for a modern truck. My '17 F150 is a custom ordered long bed 4 door but not as unique as this. Super cool! Enjoyed the video, thank you for sharing!
If you don't have kids this is the perfect overlanding rig forget the Jeep
Great setup! This information really helps in the decision making process for my next truck. 👍🏻
Just got a 2022 f150 5.0 fx4 also in regular cab and short bed. Truck has full options and 3.73 e locking gears with towing package and towing tech, 360 camera view and off-road package. These trucks go for 45k+ now .
I'm not a Ford guy, but I grew up in short wide single cab GM pickups and this thing really takes me back. So good off road!
Cool configuration, I’d be into this if I didn’t have the kids. Also, that’s a good idea to swap in the raptor front diff.
Steven Duhaime I’ve got 3 kids, we got an old Suburban for Overlanding. Works great, only cost $2000.
That's why I always wrap it before I tap it I don't want to have that problem 😂
@@BYLRPhil literally any 4wd with second row seating or 4 doors can "overland" which if I'm being honest is the most rediculous term. You can "overland" in a Subaru. If your taking your vehicle up dried river beds, through 1 ft or deeper mud or snow, your not overlanding you 4 wheeling.
Now that's not to say I'm bagging on people who enjoy this overlanding trend, it's just that I dislike the creation of terminology that's made just to sell people on a "lifestyle" that's existed already for years. You either 4 wheel or you don't. Anyone can camp in a truck tent, sleep in the bed of the truck, or back of the SUV. Also just about any vehicle can visit most places of outdoor interest.
Lol anyhow 2k on a suburban that nets your family fun and enjoyment. I call that a good deal and money well spent.
@@thehurts9216 I mean, there are plenty of people that overland like you just described offroading. But you're right, most of these only see fire roads anyway that you can take a sedan down
This truck is perfect! Best episode yet! If a truck popped up with these exact options around me, I'd buy it today! Great truck!
My first new truck was a 1995 F-150 that I ordered right out of college. I ordered a RCSB 4x4 with 5.8L, manual lockouts, manual transfer case and 3.73 gears. That thing would go anywhere and is still my favorite truck that I've owned to this day.
This is just another reason why short bed trucks will always have a special place in my heart and In my driveway.
Love the truck. Just wish ford would give the normal cab some actual love. Miss seeing these trucks driving around.
I have a 2019 regular cab F-150. When I went to the dealership to check it out (after seeing info about it in an ad), they had to go to an overflow lot to pick it up. Most of the F-150s on the main dealership lot were 4-door trucks. I guess a lot of people want a truck to also be a sedan these days. To each their own, but I wouldn't want the hit to visibility and maneuverability.
This guy is a pickup wizard. So informative ;)
It is very annoying that most manufacturers think that heated steering wheel or heated seats are items only for luxury trims. These should be available as an extra package on all trims.
All options should be a la carte unless there's a valid reason to require a package. I say that within disdain toward the dodge Magnum and first few years of charger when you couldn't get a V8 without also having to pay for leather seats and stereo upgrades.
Correction, the 9.75 rear doesn't come from the plow package. That changes the front springs. The 9.75 axle is automatically given over the standard 8.8 when the 3.73 gears with the E-locker are chosen, regardless of what engine is in the truck. My '18 RCSB 5.0 had 3.73 gears and so did my '17 Supercab 5.0 with 3.73; both were 9.75 rear ends. Aside from that, HDPP and maybe Max Tow gives you the special larger 9.75HD axle, but RCLB is the only regular cab with access to those and HDPP comes with serious weight and ride tradeoffs.
Other than that, this guy knows his stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if I found him on f150forum and the Official Regular Cab thread. At least, that's where I would still be, if I hadn't sold my '18 regular cab short bed on account of it being a complete and utter lemon.
This guy is amazing, a true enthusiast. Explained everything about the truck perfectly well
What an awesome truck! Love the look and yes, the reg cab look is classic. It’s leveled perfectly...looks great 👍
In two months, I'm leaving for Japan for a job with the Navy, and I'll be there for three years. I really hope Ford is still making SWB single cab F-150s in three years! This is exactly what I want in a truck. However, I bet you couldn't find this on a dealer lot anywhere across the US. Great video. Cheers from down south!
Jay seems like a cool guy, and a very informed Ford customer. Thanks for the video.
I drive an 07 FJ Cruiser but these trucks are growing on me
This is an awesome truck! I've always been a fan of the single cab pick up. Trucks aren't supposed to be family haulers, they're for work and play. Lol
This owner could be guest in trt or any show, everyone would like him
Hi
I love these configurations. I had a 97 F150, Reg cab, short bed 4x4 with the 4.6 and a 5 speed manual and a manual trans case lever. The truck was very light and nimble for a full size truck, and the 5 speed really helped the 4.6 feel powerful and peppy. In the bigger configurations with the Auto, the 4.6 would feel underpowered. Also i could get up to 22 mpgs on a tank if i was going on a trip. In the 90's it was absolutely unheard of to get anywhere near 20 mpgs on a full size gasser truck.
This guy knows his stuff, very informative.
Enjoyed the video. The owner was very informative, he knows his truck.
The turn radius was sick. Almost looked like the back wheels locked and turned like a tank. Very tight.
Chris Williams yanks have wheels?
I miss my regular cab short box silverado. It also had KO2 tires, was so much fun off the pavement.
Favorite bodystyle of any truck. Love that color.
I've always wanted a supercrew v8, but man this is making me love the regular cab. Simple yet very effective.
If I have only 1 vehicle, RCSB is it!
This guy knows his truck, great video!
this guy should be part of the TFL TEAM. Knows his stuff.
I like the truck and this guy knows his stuff a lot of people don’t even know what a carburetor is these days.
Dude, use that high amp aux switch to run an air compressor. If you get a winch, it has all of its own wiring anyway. Having the ability to air down and back up is way more useful than a winch, especially since you're almost fully locked. Interesting truck though otherwise!
You know your stuff, buddy
This dude found a Unicorn of a truck. Hard to find short bed reg cab trucks with those options its a nice looking truck and something i would get if i could find one.
Excellent video! Really enjoyed how the owner knows all the small details that make these trucks.
The owner knows a LOT, far more than most. Kudos to him for being so well studied in his choice of configuration. I am impressed that Ford is offering a Torsen as a front differential. They are the best limited slip available. The military used them for the Hummers and other off road vehicles. But due to higher cost, they have rarely been available to the general public by the manufacturers.
Nice!! I especially like it since I just bought, last October, a '19 regular cab short box 4x2 XLT 301A with 2.7 twin turbo and 10 speed, and 3:73 electronic locking axle. With the 301A package you get leather wrapped steering wheel, power drivers seat, larger instrument panel screen, large Sync dash screen and mirror signal lights. (might have missed something).... :-)
I love em I want them all! Test drived on a 2.7 6 speed Got 5.0 six then 3.5 10speed ! People get fooled that they need more than 2.7 but no that thing can keep up with anything outruns any hemi!
This was awesome... I love this using factory parts to upgrade and specing it just right otherwise. Wish more people did this so more used vehicles would be out there like this.
Great vid, thanks for showing us your truck!
Great, knowledgeable TFL host and an awesome Ford truck with the perfect owner 👍
