As a retired teacher, I know this sort of thing occurs a lot, and not always with intent to cheat. The tragedy of this is that the world of education has lost a brilliant leader and a role model for both children and adults alike to aspire too, He has a huge sense of moral duty taking the blame for this as a head. As a teacher and governor, I can tell you school trusts DO get rid of good staff to save money, to cut corners, to scapegoat. I feel sorry for those kids; they’ve lost a dedicated practitioner.
I’m sure there is more to the story than both sides are saying. However, he was such a good teacher the council should have done everything to fix the problem. Losing such a good educator is far more devastating than anything administrative. He could have been doing this for years to get more funding or even a higher wage whatever it was to lose a teacher who appeared to do anything to help children succeed is a travesty. Shame on Salford council. Everyone who spoke of him held him in high regard and that is very rare. The education system in this country is flawed from the start with an emphasis on quotas. We should be educating every child as an individual so we give every child the best chance in life and it appeared Mr Povey thought the same.
It looks like jealously to me and someone from the council saw that how well he was doing and was waiting for an opperunity for him to make a mistake and then attack him by accusing and making allegations against him. Its a real shame that such a small error has been made into such a big issue. He was an honest and a really good role model to the children and also years of experience has uplifted the reputation. Now its gone downhill which the council does not realise there where many ways of resolving this. All the years of hard work he has put in has been gone. Shame on the council.
Completely agree. He made a mistake as we all do but having him leaving the school is such a shame. He was an incredible teacher who had a big impact on the kids
The problem was that he could not fight back because the person who has made the allegation had so many support from the council. This was clearly a personal attack and a lot of people from the council where really jealous. They do not realize that this would impact the whole school both children and staff who looked up to him. Although he may made a mistake they could of trained him or have a meeting of improvement. There's not many hard working, honest and passionate head teachers like him.

I watched this a week or so ago on the tv. As a family we thought this head was brilliant . We could not believe it at the end when we saw what had happened at the end of the programme and this head having to leave. Both my children said they wished they would have had a head like that at secondary school . He was full of ideas and clearly wanted to try his best with these kids . So many head teachers that don’t have a clue or try any thing different or interesting to engage the pupils . What a shame something could have been sorted out in this situation . I don’t know how well this school is doing now or how parents felt at the time when this was going on .
Before he went there it was in Special Measures, he got school out of it, then someone apparently has a thing against him. He lost his job and school is now back in Special measures.
It sounds l oh me the Concil.DID have a vendetta against him. IF errors happened .. and they DO happen .. it was at an administrative level. HE took full responsibility. What a waste of a clearly talented man.
We are not privy to what went on but what is obvious to me, from the programme and what I read, Drew Povey is a dedicated and highly talented educator who loves to improve the lives of others, and he is an inspiring leader. Far be it from me to pre-judge, but what I do know is that in the "socialist republic of Salford" all sorts of shenanigans go on, individualism is anathema and I can easily believe that he was hounded out on trumped up charges partly because of his success at the school and because he raised his profile too high - this would not go down at all well with some of the minions in the council. Perverse indeed but this is human nature at its worst, going against all good reason and common sense. No school is without its problems, and I know that in a school such as this one, even a major administrative error could be forgiven and would not have warranted this; there was nothing to gain from fiddling the figures, 2 pupils out of 800, what difference would it make? it just does not add up? He has dealt with this with great dignity and openness and I would want to see him vindicated. Let the council and governors lay their cards on the table, let us know the truth and let the people judge. What a loss to the people of Salford - residents, THINK before you vote!

Ofsted also clearly outlined in the report the school failed due to past decisions ofsted are yet to understand that was made by drew. Including the biggest off rolling studnets which means temporary removing them from the school system so that when the annual exam review comes around the studnets are not registered. It was found drew would purposely add the students back after the review which would then make harrop fold look like it was performing better than actual was. We believe povey did this because he said the school was so much better which it was but he felt the need to make it look like it was performing better and while he washing this he took his eye off the ball actually making sure the school was continuing to improve and he ran properly. Sadly this man was a great headtecaher but he allowed stress of the TV, stress of the job to get on top of him and eventually all of it ruined harrop fold school. If it was never in educating Manchester the school would still be open today and drew would never have felt the need to off roll students because that pressure of him proving the school was good wouldn’t have been there.
