The cross of Jesus is everything in so far as the Attonement. However one of Restoration with the involvement of God's wrath and punishment in the consequences of our actions. So much more I can say but it is not about debating. Sadly what we hear here is a result of centuries of protestant bias that has so indoctrinated our western minds that we read the Bible through that lens. Result the churches are bleeding vast numbers. Progressives are merely leaning on the H.S. as they read their scriptures. Independently I came to conclusions that have been validated by those who care about the reasons why so many have left their faith. No 1 let us stop worshipping the written word and rejoice in the LIVING WORD I.e. JESUS in us ( Galatians 1/16) to whom it points. Nos 2 let us get a better grip on the original Hebrew and Greek languages coupled with a more accurate cosmological understanding of those times. Nos 3 Let us dispense with so much arrogance of certainty after all who can can fully understand the infinite fullness of God. Nos 4 Let us continue to do what the Bereans did with Paul. Walk together with our all our findings in the Spirit of FAITH HOPE and most importantly LOVE😍God be with ALL and yes being God He will not fail and reconcile ALL of His creation to Himself.. when Christ has overcome ALL. (Rev.)
I would like to add one: Pride = expecting God to accept your good works as a bribe so He might overlook the fact of your sin, as opposed to: Humility = trusting to be saved through Jesus Christ.

"Progressive" Christianity sort of boils down to one big lie, and that is: "Jesus din't condemn the Sinners he encountered, and therefore he didn't consider their actions to be Sin." You just told a lie about progressive Christianity, since that is not at all the argument they make, or at best a straw-man caricature thereof. So as a progressive Christian I'm telling you: go and sin no more.
I'm pretty sure he meant sin against the law of the land (commit crime) for that event, not in general, as asking people not to sin in general would be a ridiculous ask considering how minor everyday things are sinful in Christianity. Just search idolatry and adultery in Blue Letter Bible to see how broad they are. Also being soft is a sin. Who the hell doesn't do that on a semi-regular basis? Also, from David getting to keep Bathsheba as a wife, even after it being clear he is forgiven, it is clear that sin only counts once per person and does not stack, which many Christians wrongly ignore when it suits their narrative. Be consistent people.
@@UniDocs_Mahapushpa_Cyavana defend your claim that Jesus meant go and sin no more against the law of the land.. And in 1 John 3:9 it says those who are the Children of God cannot practice sin Romans 6 says not to let sin reign. We are told to die to self and to the flesh and live in the spirit and for Christ to live in us. God says in Phillipians 2:13 that He works in us both to will and to DO of His good pleasure. "Being soft is a sin" what is 'being soft' and please provide a verse that says it is a sin. And David was forgiven after acknowledging His sin and after that He still repented in the psalms and was of a contrite heart. But he lost His baby and God spoke of his punishment for this sin in 2 Samuel 12:10-12. "And expound on what you mean by " sin counts once and does not stack" And what is stacking and what do Christians teach about this.
"God doesn't overreact." That sentence is so good and true. God is just and perfect, so he reacts in the prefect way. He never diminishes our sin and its consequences and He also never would NOT accept our honest cry for help and honest repentance and acceptance of Jesus as our savior.

@@semperreformanda6100 Mark 10:17-22 As Jesus was going along the road, a man came running to him and threw himself at his feet and asked him, ‘Good teacher, what am I to do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? There is no one who is good, except one - God. You know the commandments. You must not kill, you must not commit adultery, you must not steal, you must not bear false witness, you must not defraud anyone, you must honour your father and mother.’ He said to him, ‘Teacher, I have kept all these from my youth.’ When Jesus looked at him he loved him, and he said to him, ‘You still lack one thing. Go, sell all that you have, and give it to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven. And come! Follow me!’ But he was grieved at this saying, and he went away in sadness, for he had many possessions. HERE is one of the most vivid stories in the gospels. (1) We must note how the man came and how Jesus met him. He came running. He flung himself at Jesus’ feet. There is something amazing in the sight of this rich, young aristocrat falling at the feet of the penniless prophet from Nazareth, who was on the way to being an outlaw. ‘Good teacher!’ he began. And straightaway Jesus answered back, ‘No flattery! Don’t call me good! Keep that word for God!’ It looks almost as if Jesus was trying to pour cold water on that young enthusiasm. There is a lesson here. It is clear that this man came to Jesus in a moment of overflowing emotion. It is also clear that Jesus exercised a personal fascination over him. Jesus did two things that every evangelist and every preacher and every teacher ought to remember and to copy. First, he said in effect, ‘Stop and think! Don’t get carried away by your excitement. I don’t want you swept to me by a moment of emotion. Think calmly what you are doing.’ Jesus was not coldshouldering the man. He was telling him even at the very outset to count the cost. Second, he said in effect, ‘You cannot become a Christian by devotion to me. You must look at God.’ Preaching and teaching always mean the conveying of truth through personality, and thereby lies the greatest danger of the greatest teachers. The danger is that the pupil, the scholar, the young person may form a personal attachment to the teacher or the preacher and think that it is an attachment to God. Teachers and preachers must never point to themselves. They must always point to God. There is in all true teaching a certain self-obliteration. True, we cannot keep personality and warm personal loyalty out of it altogether, and we would not if we could. But the matter must not stop there. Teachers and preachers are in the last analysis only pointers to God. Excerpt from: "New Daily Study Bible: The Gospel of Mark" by William Barclay. Scribd. All these seem to say, in a relatively disingenuous way, is that "all the things the Bible calls sin (especially sexual immorality) are fine and God would never actually punish you for them. The only real sin is calling things the Bible says are sin 'sin'." It brings to mind that CS Lewis quote from The Problem of Pain that what we really want is a "grandfather in heaven" a "senile benevolent" who just wants us all to be happy and to have fun instead of holding us accountable to a standard of maturity and holiness.
What if your standard of maturity and holiness is merely a structure of control filling you with a negative judgmental perspective, inspiring you to spread hate under the guise of faith? What if you’ve been convinced you DESERVE suffering, but you’re simply just a human being, like all the rest? What if you’ve been conned into constant self-surveillance, living in fear of higher judgment, obeying what these false leaders tell you without question, just to feel part of a special club?
@@mads597 That's a good series of questions, but they ignore all the other EVIDIENCE. Sin is sinful, not because God arbitrarily and capriciously creates a series of rules, like some DM cherry picking rules from various editions of Dungeons and Dragons and various other Role Playing sourcebooks, because she likes this combat system and that magic system. Sin is sinful because sin hurts people and because it violates people, because when we act _selfishly_ we treat other people like things who exist for our pleasure instead of people. Stealing hurts the person you steal from. Lying hurts the person you are lying about and it also hurts the person you are lying to. Sex is fundamentally _human reproductive behavior._ When we pursue sex merely for pleasure we hurt the people we use to get that pleasure. Uniquely of all the sins, if Paul is to be believed, we even victimize ourselves. Part of this is because the pleasurable side of sex is there to help us bond with our life-mate. We can see this simply by looking around. Promiscuous sexual behavior spreads a wide variety of diseases that spread virtually no other way. Many of these diseases are chronic, creating lasting, life-long health problems. Some are even fatal. It's almost as if God built in warning signs into creation to warn us to NOT DO IT. Promiscuous sexual behavior also causes a significant number of psychological problems (or proceeds out of them): increased problems of depression, anxiety, and guilt. Objectifying others, objectifying ones self. It makes it harder to form long-term relationships (because one is tempted to bring sexuality into non-sexual friendships and because sex looses it's power to bond two people together when you've bonded sexually with all sorts of other people - and then bail on them when it's not "fun" anymore). And sociologically we see a wide variety of negative impacts because promiscuity makes it harder for people to marry and because it leaves behind children who do not have a stable, two-parent family to grow up in. Science and personal experience tell us they wide variety of consequences _that_ has from increased rates of depression and drug use, to increased dropout rates, to increased crime rates, increased abuse rates, increased rates of the children growing up themselves to pursue unhealthy sexual relationships. So, no, I don't fear that I've been conned into living up to some arbitrary standard of "holiness" fed to me by "false leaders" just to feel part of a club, and to give me permission to judge others or because I fear some imagined hell. Sin has consequences, not just in some afterlife, but here on earth. We recognize it enough that we've enshrined "rest one day a week", "don't murder", "don't steal", and "don't bear false witness" into our own laws. We see how terrible nations and people who worship themselves or some false ideal rather than God (whether it's money, power, fame or whatever) become. We've seen how abominable it is when people do evil and say it's in God's name (that what that whole "taking God's name in vain" commandment means) are. It does mean that I take sin seriously and recognize the hurt and evil that goes with it. It means I understand why God hates it so much.
You can overcome! If you remove media that uses curse words from your life it’s a lot easier for those things to no longer come out of your mouth...cause it’s not going in.

Lets remember to convict our brothers and sisters with grace. It’s too easy for us to get offended and passionate when we encounter believers who’s perception of the gospel isn’t sound. However, Jesus always led with love when he called for repentance. Instead of berating those who may be ill informed. Pray for them and offer biblical resources to help rebuild their faith.
Or just let people live their lives in peace. Leave them alone, they’re unburdened by your fear and are wise enough to know a “rebuilding of faith” would mean imprisonment of their soul under the toxic and judgmental eye of self-serving leaders set on convincing you not to think for yourself and to follow them without question.
@@mads597 I don’t necessarily agree with you but I do respect your opinion and one else’s. Like in many religions there’s leaders who take advantage of their platform/position. However the focus of Christianity isn’t about them it’s about having a relationship with God. When I refer to helping people rebuild their faith i’m specifically referencing to people within the community and who you have a relationship with. I do agree that it’s unrealistic to hold other people to the principles of your religion if they don’t believe in it.

Take God as the "Father" more often. Your analogy of the child and the parent could probably answer most of these. Fathers punish their children, not for lack of love but because of love. For instance, a father would reprimand or punish a child for going into a street. Not because he is about anger and wrath, but because he doesn't want a car to come and take that child away. So many parallels of God's love and a love of a parent would answer these swiftly. Like these people don't know what a parent is supposed to do. 😥
while i am not disagreeing, i want to emphasize that the motivation behind ourselves punishing our own children out of love for their wellbeing is not the only thing. when you tell your kid to do something and it has nothing to do with their wellbeing, and they don't do it, do you not become angry? why? is it because they are at risk? no, it is because they defied you and you are their parent. so you punish them because it is wrong for them to do that. we need to make sure we don't overlook things or make light of things. is sin harmful to us? absolutely. but it is also an absolutely evil act against God that deserves His wrath.

His human body died, not His divinity.
Should we endorse drug addiction, gambling addiction, alcohol addiction, etc., as healthful ways of life? If not, then why should we endorse the various forms of sex addiction as healthful just because they are common? God warns about all these things for our own good. The first step to recovery is recognizing that you have a problem. It's good to see rational teachers standing up for a better life.
@@nemiza8288 All human activity has been corrupted, not just sexual attractions. When Jesus walked among us, he showed us exactly that, and provided a way out. He was the light who gave us truth and grace. The first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem. The problem for all humans is wrapped up in one word: sin. 'Sin' literally means 'to fall short of the mark'. The mark we fall short of is the original "image of God" that we were intended to be. Sin means that all of us are broken, each in his or her own ways. Jesus came to give people a new life in which they could be conformed to that true image of what it means to be a human being. He came to set the captives free. That includes saying good-by to all types of overpowering passions such as angry violence and sexual immorality. Those passions are just as addicting as alcohol or drugs. That is the cost of being a follower of Jesus, and also the benefit he gives us by his grace. It is up to each of us to choose.

You must not pray to God Yahweh and His Christ Yeshua(Jesus) because He has said that the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous avails much (James 5:16); it means that the prayers of the righteous are powerful, because the One they pray to is all-powerful and all the promises of God are in Him(Christ) yes and amen[2 Corinthians 1:20] and we know that if we pray according to His will then we have what we pray for [Mark 11:23-26; 1 John 5:14-15].
I remember “safe, legal, and rare” from the days it was a hot topic ( before Roe/Wade). It was THE lie of the movement, and still is. It’s certainly not rare, and when people protest passage of laws requiring the same standards of care as any other medical surgical center, it becomes obvious that they also never meant the ‘safe’ part. The only thing that happened was it got made legal. And millions died.
The point of their list is to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing by either making nothing wrong or disqualifying God as a judge. Back in 85 a saying I heard said the following: God gave us freedom, but we wanted license.
Why abort if both lives can be saved by delivering the child and treating the problem? If abortion had been available I might not be alive, as both my mother's and my life were in jeopardy until a C-section was performed. Both of us were saved by that method. So abortion is not acceptable to me at all.
I think an ectopic pregnancy creates this issue... baby is forming in the fallopian tube and will not grow until viable, but it will likely kill the mother when there tube erupts. There may be a few other instances, but they aren't as prevalent as the abortion- loving crowd suggest
@Pippi Bernstein No, the surgery for an abortion literally cuts limbs off the baby, sucks the brains out of the baby, and crushes the head to remove the baby. that's different than ectopic pregnancy surgery.
Yay. Mike winger. I love his ministry and find it wonderful that you among many other solid ministries are collaborating. Especially during these times where we are all stuck at home. Thankyou for your work and ministry. It has been an encouragement during tough times and a “ progressive” era!
I just want to say how I appreciate you, Mike and other bible reading christians putting out theses types of videos. They are both challenging and encouraging.
Thank you for putting this content out. I'm so glad I've found you and Mike Winger. I used to go to Bryan Zhand"s church 15 years ago but left because something sounded off in the preaching. I just couldn't figure out what it was. Now to hear some of what he says I understand why it didn't sit well with me.
My husband is a deputy and I just had that image of him dealing with a suspect and telling them, "You are swimming against the flow of my love." Oh my gosh, that was just plain funny! Even being funny, it was a great example of punitive justice.
This is great! I was thinking that we needed to see a conversation between the two of you. Especially after I watched Mike’s video on the Sadducees in Mark.
Correction: with pregnancy complications, it's not that you're killing one to save the other, it's that you are saving one and failing, due to inadequate medical technology, to save the other. The difference is that the latter isn't actively killing the one, which would be murder, which is a philosophically important distinction. Note: I believe this is Mike's view and that he simply misstated it in the moment, which is something we all do. I only posted this to clarify for any one who runs across this so that they have a more accurate understanding of what was probably meant as there are many people who would simply point to what he said and say that Mike Winger said it's ok to kill babies when he isn't saying that at all.
That is perfectly stated! I think a change in the vocabulary we use may help with this distinction. When both lives are in danger, then the baby should be “delivered” as opposed to “aborted” and all attempts should be made to save both lives.
Whenever people tell me that sometimes they have to abort baby to save mum. I say no, they birth baby. There is no reason to kill baby first, then birth it.
I hope you are right because I was just going to comment on it. No, you don't kill someone because "they are going to die anyway" then we're supporting euthanasia which is no better than abortion
In a situation where the baby will die no matter what you do terminating the pregnancy to save the mother's life is morally justified, perhaps even required. I can buy that.
Love Mike Winger and Alisa Childers! Both of them helped my wife and I during COVID. Another Gospel is a must read guys if you haven't read it. Thanks for the work you both are during for the Kingdom.

They have plenty of videos where they share their experiences. But we often get caught up in our personal experiences/our testimonies and other people's testimonies...which can make individual experiences the main focus, rather than the truth and light of the Gospel. If that makes sense? I had to learn this...I was very obsessed with testimonies (which I love and are important!) but knowing the Gospel is the most important. Thank you for having these discussions and bringing clarity to those who are being led astray by false teachers/teachings. Again, thank you!
Oh wow, I remember listening to “You Get Me” on the radio in college. So interesting to see you now with this channel. I am SO RELIEVED to see you speaking up against progressivism in the Church. The Church should shape the world, not the other way around.
The video title - that is such a good question to address for new Christians as well. I’ve been searching for these answers for a few months now. I used to be an atheist and I have these types of questions. Bless you and please keep up the good work.
At 18:05, I can relate. I used to have a real road rage problem when I was younger and I worked on it to the point where my anger turned to concern and I was praying for safe travels for the folks I would have flipped off before. Then my son was born. Suddenly, I took such offense at dangerous driving habits around me, because they were endangering my son in the car with me, that I felt incensed, a violent wrath I haven't felt before. I'm still working on it, but your comment about how parental love can lead to wrath brought it to my mind.
The point regarding the 4 methods of interpretation is a practice called the quadriga. This was popular back in the Middle Ages and has come back to life in the progressive Christianity movement as an abandonment of literal interpretation. People either feel the Word of God is infallible or it’s fallible, I tend to think that actual believers understand God’s true nature of infallibility and inerrancy.
The cursing issue isn't just discussed in progressive circles. I know I have had people ask me who determines what words are vulgar and which aren't, and often the answer is society. Christians do have a habit of deciding since an action can lead some people to sin, therefore it must be totally bad, therefore we will call it sin. It's why the topic of alcohol has been debated forever. A thing cannot be a sin, but it can be used to sin. Knives are used to murder, so should they be then call using a knife a sin? No. Using words in context is not wrong, however, we have to ask ourselves why we want to use them and and if how we are using it is really necessary. On the first page of the first chapter of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, when talking about people's standards, he said that rarely does a person reply, 'To hell with your standard.' Now, I was always taught that you shouldn't do that, yet he did, in a book recommended by thousands of ministers. Paul said all things are lawful, but not all are beneficial; if you know certain things will turn some people off and prevent you from being about to minister to certain people, maybe you should think about if it is worth it or not. When we give our lives to God, it is no longer about our wants and desires, but His.
I just found your channel and love it. I saw the interview with Cooper and subscribed to both channels. My spirit fiercely repels from false prophets. Beth Moore was the first that was an immediate check in my Spirit. Joyce Meyer shares some things to which I can agree - but goes outside of scripture so much now I barely recognize the woman I watched years ago. The watered-down Christianity burgeoning in our society has led young Christians down the wrong path and turned even some of the most staunch believers to be apathetic or too frightened of offending others to stand firm in the Lord. Your podcasts are so important for all Christians who hunger for truth in God. Thank you for all you do!
Wow, may the good Lord bless you all for your dedication and dedication to His work. I am proud seeing people like you and or myself, who stand for the Truth. In fact, today is my first time watching your program, and must confess, I did not need to investigate your previous work before subscribing to your channel. The truth is one and there's no otherwise. God bless you for sharing. This is what I stand for and have been teaching.
Modern Christianity is all about focusing on "how those other Christians are doing it wrong" instead of taking an honest appraisal of the faith and why its in decline.
The thing is if what these 'Christians' are teaching is unbiblical and they are doing it in the name of Christ and Christianity and they are bringing alot of people into their heresies then we need to speak out against it. If there are people with a following that are teaching people things that are not of God, we need to address them because they are like Shepherds that are not feeding their flocks. These videos are to keep people from falling into traps and teachings that are against God and to bring people to knowledge of the true God of the bible and of the gospel. Nonetheless I agree that it is a focus, and we should NEVER lose sight of Christ, but it is a work that needs to be done. But we should always be striving to know the heart of God and to understand the gospel better and bring people closer.
@@edtachiri The word heresy is meaningless in 2020, it implies there is a true orthodox church that is in contact with God. The world has 1000's of variations of Christianity with their own version of orthodoxy and none of them seem to have access to any of the super powers granted in the Bible, or be significantly different from each other, certainly nothing like the church in Acts. According to most Jews the New Testament is a Heresy, they like most Europeans and rational people everywhere find it a conflicted mess, you actually need a strong imagination to pull together any kind of orthodoxy.
@@LukeVidler I agree. There are alot of heresies in the church. But that doesn't mean men of God should not call them out. Even if they are small. And we should be praying for reform in the body of Christ. Nonetheless, when there are DAMNABLE heresies, then if no-one says anything I would be shocked and wrathful. Heresies are bad enough. But damnable heresies are sending people straight to hell.
i firmly believe that most of the items on this list stem from a desire to embrace "love/compassion" at the expense of truth...this has been the dna of way too many fellow believers i've encountered over the past decade or so....very disturbing and dangerous trend in American churches...
I highly appreciate the clarity and conciseness of these answers. It takes knowing WHY something is wrong to provide any quick answer that is effective and defensible.

@@nikkialkema1032 Sorry, I don't know what logic you are using there, but it makes no sense. Fertilization creates a new human being, its science, its repeatable and testable, we have at least 7 Billion living examples. Not one was born of just sperm or just an egg. From the moment of conception you have a human with unique DNA that if allowed to develop will become a living baby under most circumstances. If the fertilization is unviable in most circumstances the pregnancy will terminate itself very early, even before the mother knows she's pregnant many times. So by the time a mother knows she's pregnant, most of those are viable human beings that will be born alive, if allowed. There is a big difference between preventing pregnancy and terminating pregnancy.
@@edcorps2876 The child is by conseption as alive as a plant it doesn't feel a thing from the abortion and what if the mother was raped nobody would like living knowing they only exist because of rape and what if the mother is only thirteen or somthing like that the chance the kid survives is small and the chance the mother survives is even smaller both of them can feel it it then and your killing two people. If you have a problem with abortions you should also be so hardcore vegan you don't even eat plants. I don't know you personaly but most "pro life" people only want more children so they can do they dirty work when they grow up. These conservatives only care about themselves. You said that we have 7 billion living examples but what about all the miscarriges. The reason there is less of these now is because of abortion. Why carry a child for nine months if they are gonna die anyway, that way they're just gonna suffer. And what if you live somewhere where people are starving? You can't breastfeed if you don't have enough food. Or will you just let them die once they're born? If someone can't take care of kids they shoudn't have them either, but I do agree that if you can take care of them, are in good health and you are old enough and are not raped you should just get your kid.
@@nikkialkema1032 Let me just point out a couple of things. You speak of rape, but yet you lower humans to the level of animals and plants. How is it that you can find rape immoral if I should be a "hardcore vegan" because killing animals is basically the same as killing humans? And how is it that rape is immoral if a baby at conception is 'nothing more than a plant'? I can't see from your own logic how you could find genocide, rape, starvation, or any of these things immoral. Do animals care for other animals that are starving? Does it even cross their mind? Do animals care if their mates are willing participants? It might make things easier, but they certainly don't care if they can accomplish their goal. If you don't see the sanctity of human life then I don't see how you could be outraged about any of these other things. There are plenty of mothers that have children born out of rape that would tell you they are glad they did not terminate, I think the majority that kept their babies would tell you that. Why? Because the human being that is born is not the human being that did them wrong. They see the innocent baby, they raise them, they see that those children love them and they find satisfaction even in the pain. Why because they value that human being, even under the circumstances to which they were brought into the world. Human life is precious and if you can't see that, then you are not going to see anything except through the lens of self fulfilment. The Bible tells us that all humans are made in the image of God and have intrinsic worth, if that's not true, then your morality and moral arguments have no basis.
@@edcorps2876 Do animals care for other animals that are starving? Yes, elefhants, dogs, cats, foxes, wolves and many other species care, cats even care about other species and have been known to adopt dogs. Does it even cross their mind? Yes. Do animals care if their mates are willing participants? Wolves, foxes (though not all foxes cuz animals are people) and swans do and there are other species who care. Rape is immoral because you have sex with someone who doesn't want to not because of the child. I think it is great that people are willing to raise a child that came from rape but it is the mothers choice and no one elses telling people what to do is immoral. The bible tells us that humans are made in the immage of God you say, but the bible also says that those humans got kicked out of paradise for a reason. And my point with the plants was just that they don't feel and neither does the abborted "baby" because they're not a human jet, and killing one of them is as immoral as killing a plant. Besides you say that I level humans down to animals jet humans tigers and some kinds of snakes are the only species who kill eachother so how great are humans really, I am not bringing humans down I am telling the truth, there is no need for more humans on this planet. Mankind is the species that started sin. I don't think we should go extinct just don't say we're in Gods image as we were once.
As a poetry writer and grammar/English fanatic, the subject of cussing as a Christian has always mystified and perplexed me. The Bible speaks clearly that we should use our tongues to edify and build people up, not demean or tear them down. We should not let unwholesome talk, perverse/crude jokes, or corrupt speech come from our mouths. Before I get into this, I want to express some context. I've thought long and hard about this issue from a Christian perspective and I've even called Greg Koukl and Amy Hall on their #STRask podcast about it and Greg and I agreed that using such language has a cultural and subjective element to it. Let me clarify further below: The question is, WHAT is classified as unwholesome talk, perverse/crude jokes, and corrupt speech? God does not give us a definitive list of words that we cannot or should not say, write, or type. Language is a very contextual and cultural phenomenon. Some words in one culture may mean something completely different in another culture or location. You also have to consider who you're speaking to, where you are speaking to them, how you are speaking to them, and why you are speaking to them in order to really gauge if the word choice you're using is appropriate or necessary. For example, the word "bloody" in the UK is equivalent to the f-word in America, but Americans, like myself, don't view the word "bloody" in that way. Even if we use it in that way, we don't grant that same level of power towards that word. I think there is a distinct difference between cursing, swearing, and cussing. I know most people use those three words interchangeably, but I think they are slightly different. Cursing, in my view, would be to wish ill upon someone. Now, I don't think or believe that anyone who curses someone else actually inflicts any negative energy or convinces some dark supernatural forces (i.e., demons) to attack them. I just think that they are holding a strong grudge and should probably do some self-reflection and forgive that person over wishing ill upon them. Cursing, in this sense, is not something we should ever do because it disrespects an image bearer of God. I think swearing is when someone actively uses the word "swear" by saying something like "I swear to God" or "I swear by my grandmother", etc. I think this type of language and phrasing is just not something we should do because God tells us to not swear by anything, but to let our answer just be "yes" or "no". I think cussing is simply using an "expletive" in your speech, writing, or typing. Here's something to consider. Words, in and of themselves, are neutral and completely passive agents. They are a combination of letters and sounds that we make with our vocal cords and tongues to produce ways to communicate with one another. Words do not choose to be good or bad. Words are not moral or immoral. They are just words. Cultures and the contexts therein make them "bad", but by and large, words that are deemed as "bad" are completely arbitrary. If words are meant to edify people, then what is the philosophical or moral difference between me saying "You're a freaking awesome person!" versus "You're an effing awesome person!"? They both mean the exact same thing and both of them are edifying. Conversely, you can demean people without using any form of expletive. In fact, people could just make up a word on the spot and it be demeaning because of the power put behind it. If I called someone a cabbagehead, it may sound funny and make me look silly, but it's still demeaning if I'm intending it to be hurtful. It may lack the power that some other demeaning insult may have (like if I called someone a sh*thead instead), but it is the intent behind the word that makes it bad, not the word itself. Anyone can make up any word or take any already well known word and consider it "bad" or use it in a demeaning way. This is why it's completely arbitrary. I think it's very crucial to speak clearly and with proper enunciation, but the way one speaks is also largely dependent upon the present company, the situation, location, and what is being spoken about. If I'm in a public or professional setting, I don't try to use harsh language because it seems unnecessary in that context, but that doesn't mean using it in that situation is evil or immoral. It's entirely up to the person. Now, I will admit that if using said language around someone else causes them to stumble or they do not like it, you're better off not doing it out of respect and to make sure that you don't cause a brother or sister in Christ to stumble. That being said, if I stub my toe and no one else is around, yelling out a simple "oh sh*t!" is not causing any harm to anyone. Furthermore, it is scientifically proven that using strong language when you are afflicted with physical pain actually relieves the pain faster. It's cathartic and stress-relieving, which has been studied and proven through tests. Using "ouch" or "dagnabbit" just doesn't pack the same punch. I do think that some words or word combinations are always wrong, not because of the word or words themselves, but because of their intent and meaning. Using God's name in vain is obviously never okay. When people use the GD combination or take Jesus' name as an expletive, that's clearly not right. Racial slurs are also never okay to use because of the meaning behind them. For the record, and to put it bluntly, I'm a middle-aged white male and I don't particularly find the word "cracker" offensive. I'm not easily offended, but someone calling me that because of their racism would not bother me - their racism itself would bother me, if that makes sense. This will obviously differ between individuals. I came up with an easy mnemonic to remember how to assess what kind of language to use. I call it the Three Cs. - Context (who are you speaking to, how are you speaking to them, and why are you using those words?) - Company (where are you at, who else is around or near that can hear you, and what is the tone of your voice?) - Culture (what country do you live in, what are the cultural implications of the word or words used, and how do outsiders view them?) At the end of the day, I'm not the language police. I'm not going to sit and say that people cannot speak or say certain things around me or in general. I'm a big proponent of freedom of speech. I don't think we should limit anyone's ability to speak. Sure, there are restrictions for good reasons, but that doesn't mean you CANNOT say those things. For example, yelling "fire!" in a crowded theater when there is no fire is a call to action, but you're making a scene for no reason because there is no fire. That's an abuse of language and you should be held accountable for it, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be ALLOWED to say it. No one can tape your mouth shut is my point. If someone wants to yell racials slurs in the streets all day, they have that right, but they may get some strange looks and cause an uproar. That's on them though. I don't think it's right to do that, but I'm not going to tell them they CANNOT do that. Their free will to choose that behavior shouldn't be removed from them. Taking away the enterprise of learning from people doesn't solve anything. I think the best thing a Christian can do is to error on the side of caution. Try not to speak in such a way that is worldly because you never know who is listening. We want to be a salt and light to the world and if we are cussing left and right, the worldly folk will not take us seriously and it may ruin our witness. I think that, in and of itself, is the bigger picture here, not the words themselves. That being said, if I'm around a group of friends who know me very well or with family and none of us care about that kind of language, then I also don't see the harm. If you're witnessing to someone or you don't know that person or group of people very well, don't do it. Error on the side of caution. Just remember that words in and of themselves, are never bad. People, cultures, contexts, and intentions make them bad. The tongue can pour honey or sting with venom. How you choose to use it is up to you.

Having to stay home and home school my children. Also I have been a server most my life. Now only able to work night’s with restrictions of closing at 9o’clock. I even applied to amazon. Smdh Losing hope. But I know God will break the devils, plans to destroy me, if anyone may help my info is on my page. Thank you God bless.❤️❤️
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. John 5:39-40 NIV Sure. Jesus affirms Bible but he says he's greater than Bible.
I am a Christian here. Regarding the topic of cussing, I was wondering what you would say about those instances when Christ called people, "Brood of Vipers," and, "Sons of your father, the Devil." Thanks! I look forward to do a second collab video, if you would be willing to do a follow-up to this. :)
Nice bookshelf there young man. Nice to see a happy face. Scholars can be so seriously minded. Truth makes you happy n smile. And also truth is so simple.
I think middle ground would be too scared to put mature well spoken bible based Christians on there. I listened to a little bit but it was too hard to get though the whole UA-cam video. I saw angel was pretty good I think, but you could tell that one of the conservative christians was for sure progressive and the other two were extremely careful, almost intimidated to stand on biblical truth if it went against the grain too much...
The following statement has impacted me greatly, though you may not see it initially. Here it is and I pray that it resounds with you as it has with me. "How we live matters" say that with meaning then as you read your Bible and look around at everything that is around you, that statement may just make you really think about everything you do and say. God bless all of you.
The thoughts of Richard Rohr amaze me. How can he say Hell is "theologically impossible" when millions (perhaps billions) of people including well-trained Biblical scholars and pastors have had no theological problem with it for thousands of years.
Amen, love is the evidence of the fruit Christ has produced in us by yielding to the Holy Spirit and maturing in the word. Submit to Christ for strength to obey in faith and trust for deliverance from any stronghold. If you’re in habitual sin confess to Christ to restore your relationship with God and for power to overcome. If you know someone struggling with sin talk to them.💞 1 John 1:8-10 1 John 4:19💞 1 John 2:15-17 Romans 12:2 2 Corinthians 4:3-4
Now that this video has been out for a while. It would be awesome to have timestamps on each of the 23 points to jump to. So this video can be used as a resource in the future. Thanks for the great content.

And in 1 John 3:9 it says those who are the Children of God cannot practice sin
Romans 6 says not to let sin reign.
"And expound on what you mean by " sin counts once and does not stack"

@@edtachiri John 3:9 is clearly talking about one specific person from context, if you read the verse before it.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and it's absolutely crucial to recognize that. He died for our sins, and was raised to life by the Father. Only by repenting of our sins, and acknowledging Jesus as our savior, can we be reconciled unto The Father.
I say this out of love, and a desire that you will be able to forge a relationship with The Father, through Jesus Christ. I highly, highly recommend that you read any of the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John). Those are great places to start (or continue) your Bible journey. Here's a verse from John to get you started.

@@semperreformanda6100 Mark 10:17-22
As Jesus was going along the road, a man came running to him and threw himself at his feet and asked him, ‘Good teacher, what am I to do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good?
(1) We must note how the man came and how
Jesus met him.
You must look at God.’ Preaching and teaching always mean the conveying of truth through personality, and
thereby lies the greatest danger of the greatest teachers.

All these seem to say, in a relatively disingenuous way, is that "all the things the Bible calls sin (especially sexual immorality) are fine and God would never actually punish you for them. The only real sin is calling things the Bible says are sin 'sin'."
It brings to mind that CS Lewis quote from The Problem of Pain that what we really want is a "grandfather in heaven" a "senile benevolent" who just wants us all to be happy and to have fun instead of holding us accountable to a standard of maturity and holiness.
"Bastards are spoiled, true heirs are disciplined... It is not more love we are asking for, but less."
It means I understand why God hates it so much.

cussing is one of my struggles i know its sinful because the holy spirit beats on my heart when i do it.
You can overcome! If you remove media that uses curse words from your life it’s a lot easier for those things to no longer come out of your mouth...cause it’s not going in.
When you show to be trustworthy and faithful to God in these little things he will set you over large things more significant things more and more into eternity!
That's called a heartbeat my dude

How do you know it’s the Holy Spirit? I’m not being skeptical of you, I’m genuinely curious. My experience has been feeling really bad about something like right after or even AS you are doing it. Then you repent of it.
It did give me reassurance, but I nearly fell away. I was so arrogant I didn’t even realize how bad it was. I went back to old sins. I knew it was wrong. I’ve repented of them now, but I’m still very scared. I’ve been praying and reading and asking for forgiveness. I keep finding so much evil in my heart.

@Beastbombshell awwwww this is so sweet of you. Thank you so much.

@@bjornegan6421 good point, I also am not disagreeing, I was just using that as an example. There is obviously more to it, I just thought the simplest point to make would be the quickest to type out and the most effective. Thank you for your view and clarification.

@@mitchellc4 I knew you would respond with a bunch of Bible verses, just felt like that would happen, but anyway, I'm not going to address every single verse specifically here. I'm not interested in having a long debate about whether Jesus is God. I've had way too many similar debates and I don't wanna spend too much commenting on a specific UA-cam debate. Regardless, I'll just briefly debunk your argument:
Jesus came to earth in a human body as a servant of God. He "had a God" through his human body and his role as a servant of God. It's very simple. It doesn't mean He isn't God.
Also, since I've seen you using another argument in other threads, I'm going to debunk that other argument:
How did Jesus die if He's God? Simple.
And how is same sex attraction physically harmful?

I like the Mike can have fun and be informative with his answers. Great guest to have.
An ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion.
@@maryannl7701 I'm aware of that. I was explaining what set of circumstances could result in a pregnancy killing mother and child.
@Pippi Bernstein No, the surgery for an abortion literally cuts limbs off the baby, sucks the brains out of the baby, and crushes the head to remove the baby. that's different than ectopic pregnancy surgery.
@Pippi Bernstein an ectopic pregnancy is not a viable pregnancy period. Abortion is tearing a child from the womb.

Lololol!
😂🤦🏼♀️😂
Yes!
I'm so happy Doreen "introduced" me to Melissa, then Melissa intro'd me to Alisa...now I'll be checking out Mike's Content. Yay!!

They have plenty of videos where they share their experiences. But we often get caught up in our personal experiences/our testimonies and other people's testimonies...which can make individual experiences the main focus, rather than the truth and light of the Gospel.
If the police put everyone who "did bad stuff" in prison, everyone would be in prison. Cool analogy
Finally someone not justifying sin so that we feel better.

This was one of those episodes that was effortless to listen to and learn from.

@@Eric-dd8bk I'm sure the scriptures don't say that. So, if I cuss that makes me a paedophile, murderer, adulterer, homosexual et al. Somehow, I don't think so. You had better find the scripture and quote it in context.
01. Cussing, is that culturally or scriptural? How many of us tell our kids we are proud of them?
02. If Gay means overly expressive joy then correct but if you mean homosexual acts, well Jesus condemns "porneia"

So, we're using Mike's channel, but my wife and I have made these videos into a weekly study time, and even the questions themselves have been great to chew on. Good on y'all.
Great show guys! Heading right over to part two.
"It's never safe, a human life is killed in every successful abortion", maybe the best quote of the entire video.
With every time you don't have sex your killing your sperm and taking the chance of a child to live away by thay logic.
Is it just me or do progressive Christians not actually believe in God or Jesus?
Let me clarify further below:
The question is, WHAT is classified as unwholesome talk, perverse/crude jokes, and corrupt speech?
- Context (who are you speaking to, how are you speaking to them, and why are you using those words?)
- Company (where are you at, who else is around or near that can hear you, and what is the tone of your voice?)
- Culture (what country do you live in, what are the cultural implications of the word or words used, and how do outsiders view them?)
At the end of the day, I'm not the language police.
So glad I discovered your Podcasts. Thank you.
Mike and my other faves, Dale and Veronica Partridge, brought me to Christ and biblical marriage. Now I am binging. I was muslim, and many other beliefs before that..pagan, witch, Mormon, etc. I am finally home. Thanks to people like you guys!!!
During this time me and my children are
going threw hell and that is not a metaphor because of the pandemic like many others, first my job, soon my home. It’s only because of the kindness of strangers I still have a roof over our my head. Now we are under another lockdown! So I’m having a hard time finding a job.
Very courageous. I pray God carries you through this time. 💕
Pray for you
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
John 5:39-40 NIV
Sure. Jesus affirms Bible but he says he's greater than Bible.
John 17:3 amen
Don’t minimize the value of the Scriptures though. Psalm 19 and 119. It’s Gods own Word, love it.
Love Mike's channel...have listened for years. He's one solid brother! "They used a metaphor for a metaphor!"
Good catch, brilliant! ✌️🙏
Great point: "God's wrath is appropriate and right."
Should’ve of brought you two on the “Conservative Christians vs Progressive Christians” on middle ground to represent real Christians
Progressive Christianity, is like a vegan who still eats meat and tries to justify it. They are the definition of lukewarm
Thankful for both of you. Have been following both of you. True warriors for the faith. Praying God blesses your outreach.
"I bought my first gun when I was baptized." It's a joke slowly back away from the keyboard please. 😆
😂
Amen, love is the evidence of the fruit Christ has produced in us by yielding to the Holy Spirit and maturing in the word. Submit to Christ for strength to obey in faith and trust for deliverance from any stronghold. If you’re in habitual sin confess to Christ to restore your relationship with God and for power to overcome. If you know someone struggling with sin talk to them.💞

Now that this video has been out for a while. It would be awesome to have timestamps on each of the 23 points to jump to. So this video can be used as a resource in the future. Thanks for the great content.
So appreciate the ministry’s of Mike & Alicia.
May the Lord continue to equip & strengthen you for “this good work.”
