Pride = expecting God to accept your good works as a bribe so He might overlook the fact of your sin, as opposed to:
Humility = trusting to be saved through Jesus Christ.

I'm trying to hold onto Biblical truths taught to me, of which I believed my whole adult life, while being surrounded by progressive Christians. I know very few Christians in my area that are not progressive. Podcasts like this are fresh air for me and helps me know I am not really alone on what was once just a given of universal Biblical truths.

How do you know it’s the Holy Spirit? I’m not being skeptical of you, I’m genuinely curious. My experience has been feeling really bad about something like right after or even AS you are doing it. Then you repent of it.
It did give me reassurance, but I nearly fell away. I was so arrogant I didn’t even realize how bad it was. I went back to old sins. I knew it was wrong. I’ve repented of them now, but I’m still very scared. I’ve been praying and reading and asking for forgiveness. I keep finding so much evil in my heart.

Lets remember to convict our brothers and sisters with grace. It’s too easy for us to get offended and passionate when we encounter believers who’s perception of the gospel isn’t sound. However, Jesus always led with love when he called for repentance. Instead of berating those who may be ill informed. Pray for them and offer biblical resources to help rebuild their faith.

Leave them alone, they’re unburdened by your fear and are wise enough to know a “rebuilding of faith” would mean imprisonment of their soul under the toxic and judgmental eye of self-serving leaders set on convincing you not to think for yourself and to follow them without question.

However the focus of Christianity isn’t about them it’s about having a relationship with God. When I refer to helping people rebuild their faith i’m specifically referencing to people within the community and who you have a relationship with. I do agree that it’s unrealistic to hold other people to the principles of your religion if they don’t believe in it.

You must not pray to God Yahweh and His Christ Yeshua(Jesus) because He has said that the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous avails much (James 5:16); it means that the prayers of the righteous are powerful, because the One they pray to is all-powerful and all the promises of God are in Him(Christ) yes and amen[2 Corinthians 1:20] and we know that if we pray according to His will then we have what we pray for [Mark 11:23-26; 1 John 5:14-15].

Correction: with pregnancy complications, it's not that you're killing one to save the other, it's that you are saving one and failing, due to inadequate medical technology, to save the other. The difference is that the latter isn't actively killing the one, which would be murder, which is a philosophically important distinction.
Note: I believe this is Mike's view and that he simply misstated it in the moment, which is something we all do. I only posted this to clarify for any one who runs across this so that they have a more accurate understanding of what was probably meant as there are many people who would simply point to what he said and say that Mike Winger said it's ok to kill babies when he isn't saying that at all.

The thing is if what these 'Christians' are teaching is unbiblical and they are doing it in the name of Christ and Christianity and they are bringing alot of people into their heresies then we need to speak out against it.
If there are people with a following that are teaching people things that are not of God, we need to address them because they are like Shepherds that are not feeding their flocks.
These videos are to keep people from falling into traps and teachings that are against God and to bring people to knowledge of the true God of the bible and of the gospel.
Nonetheless I agree that it is a focus, and we should NEVER lose sight of Christ, but it is a work that needs to be done. But we should always be striving to know the heart of God and to understand the gospel better and bring people closer.

@@edtachiri The word heresy is meaningless in 2020, it implies there is a true orthodox church that is in contact with God. The world has 1000's of variations of Christianity with their own version of orthodoxy and none of them seem to have access to any of the super powers granted in the Bible, or be significantly different from each other, certainly nothing like the church in Acts. According to most Jews the New Testament is a Heresy, they like most Europeans and rational people everywhere find it a conflicted mess, you actually need a strong imagination to pull together any kind of orthodoxy.

@@nikkialkema1032 Sorry, I don't know what logic you are using there, but it makes no sense. Fertilization creates a new human being, its science, its repeatable and testable, we have at least 7 Billion living examples. Not one was born of just sperm or just an egg. From the moment of conception you have a human with unique DNA that if allowed to develop will become a living baby under most circumstances. If the fertilization is unviable in most circumstances the pregnancy will terminate itself very early, even before the mother knows she's pregnant many times. So by the time a mother knows she's pregnant, most of those are viable human beings that will be born alive, if allowed. There is a big difference between preventing pregnancy and terminating pregnancy.

    • @nikkialkema1032

@@edcorps2876 The child is by conseption as alive as a plant it doesn't feel a thing from the abortion and what if the mother was raped nobody would like living knowing they only exist because of rape and what if the mother is only thirteen or somthing like that the chance the kid survives is small and the chance the mother survives is even smaller both of them can feel it it then and your killing two people. If you have a problem with abortions you should also be so hardcore vegan you don't even eat plants. I don't know you personaly but most "pro life" people only want more children so they can do they dirty work when they grow up. These conservatives only care about themselves. You said that we have 7 billion living examples but what about all the miscarriges. The reason there is less of these now is because of abortion. Why carry a child for nine months if they are gonna die anyway, that way they're just gonna suffer. And what if you live somewhere where people are starving? You can't breastfeed if you don't have enough food. Or will you just let them die once they're born? If someone can't take care of kids they shoudn't have them either, but I do agree that if you can take care of them, are in good health and you are old enough and are not raped you should just get your kid.

    • @edcorps2876
      @edcorps2876 3 роки тому +6

@@nikkialkema1032 Let me just point out a couple of things. You speak of rape, but yet you lower humans to the level of animals and plants. How is it that you can find rape immoral if I should be a "hardcore vegan" because killing animals is basically the same as killing humans? And how is it that rape is immoral if a baby at conception is 'nothing more than a plant'? I can't see from your own logic how you could find genocide, rape, starvation, or any of these things immoral. Do animals care for other animals that are starving? Does it even cross their mind? Do animals care if their mates are willing participants? It might make things easier, but they certainly don't care if they can accomplish their goal. If you don't see the sanctity of human life then I don't see how you could be outraged about any of these other things. There are plenty of mothers that have children born out of rape that would tell you they are glad they did not terminate, I think the majority that kept their babies would tell you that. Why? Because the human being that is born is not the human being that did them wrong. They see the innocent baby, they raise them, they see that those children love them and they find satisfaction even in the pain. Why because they value that human being, even under the circumstances to which they were brought into the world. Human life is precious and if you can't see that, then you are not going to see anything except through the lens of self fulfilment. The Bible tells us that all humans are made in the image of God and have intrinsic worth, if that's not true, then your morality and moral arguments have no basis.

    • @nikkialkema1032

@@edcorps2876 Do animals care for other animals that are starving? Yes, elefhants, dogs, cats, foxes, wolves and many other species care, cats even care about other species and have been known to adopt dogs. Does it even cross their mind? Yes. Do animals care if their mates are willing participants? Wolves, foxes (though not all foxes cuz animals are people) and swans do and there are other species who care.
Rape is immoral because you have sex with someone who doesn't want to not because of the child. I think it is great that people are willing to raise a child that came from rape but it is the mothers choice and no one elses telling people what to do is immoral. The bible tells us that humans are made in the immage of God you say, but the bible also says that those humans got kicked out of paradise for a reason. And my point with the plants was just that they don't feel and neither does the abborted "baby" because they're not a human jet, and killing one of them is as immoral as killing a plant. Besides you say that I level humans down to animals jet humans tigers and some kinds of snakes are the only species who kill eachother so how great are humans really, I am not bringing humans down I am telling the truth, there is no need for more humans on this planet. Mankind is the species that started sin. I don't think we should go extinct just don't say we're in Gods image as we were once.

I used to have a real road rage problem when I was younger and I worked on it to the point where my anger turned to concern and I was praying for safe travels for the folks I would have flipped off before. Then my son was born. Suddenly, I took such offense at dangerous driving habits around me, because they were endangering my son in the car with me, that I felt incensed, a violent wrath I haven't felt before. I'm still working on it, but your comment about how parental love can lead to wrath brought it to my mind.

The point regarding the 4 methods of interpretation is a practice called the quadriga. This was popular back in the Middle Ages and has come back to life in the progressive Christianity movement as an abandonment of literal interpretation. People either feel the Word of God is infallible or it’s fallible, I tend to think that actual believers understand God’s true nature of infallibility and inerrancy.

The translator doing live translation, translated it as "bullshit." It was so shocking to hear that in church - then so funny because it really captured the point well. The point is - language is arbitrary. It's silly to think certain words offend God. I think it's the tone and heart behind our words that God is concerned about.

I WISH SOMEONE COULD EXPLAIN THIS: I'll never understand how we're told we'll have to give an account for every careless thing we speak and yet the Bible also says God removes us from our sins "as far as the east is from the west." So how do those two things jibe? If we're all required to stand before God giving accounts for all our sins that are no longer separated from us but brought before us front and center, doesn't that basically tell us what we'll be *doing* for all eternity? (Either giving our account OR standing in line to give our account and I'm only half joking.) And lastly and most importantly, if we're summoned before God to "explain ourselves" -- which we can't possibly do anyway -- doesn't that entirely negate Jesus' sacrifice on the cross? What was it all FOR if our sins are something we have to try to explain in heaven before God?

“Every one, therefore, should be solicitudes about his temptations and watch in prayer, lest the devil find opportunity to catch him; who has never sleepeth, but goeth about, seeking whom he may devour.”
The Holy United Catholic Church does believe in the devil and he’ll. Our pope is not our God, he does not directly dictate what we believe, our dogma of theology and the Bible (the one without removed books) that we made dictates that. I hope as Christians we can come together and profess Jesus as our Savior and Lord

You acknowledge that not minding your own words under any circumstance is a form if profanity, and yet you bear false witness by creating straw man arguments in your very next breaths, committing the very same brand of profanity you just condemned. Accurate characterization of a position, even if it's still one you're going to critique or reject, is so important. Please be more careful.

@@HPC2004 Just to give one example, the characterization of arguments by progressive Christians on abortions was incorrect. No one in that circle believes that an abortion is anything but a tragic loss of life. The progressive arguments are that (1) sometimes living in a fallen world puts us in positions where we have to make ethical decisions where there are only wrong/sinful answers, and in those cases the freedom to make the best/least destructive decisions has to lie with the mother, family, and medical folks on the ground who know the situation. (2) Attacking the matter of abortion primarily through legislation is the wrong method, because it doesn't do enough to address the reasons women consent to them in the first place. By their own definition of profanity (i.e. failing to properly mind the words that come out of one's own mouth to the detriment of others), this is profanity, since it bears false witness.

As a conservative Christian, I find the response to Q7 about "picking Christianity" and the "sinners prayer", confusing. Our response to the claims of Jesus is crucial, for He is "the stumbling stone" that will make men fall. But "He who believes in Him will not be disappointed". Romans 9:33. And "if we confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we shall be saved". Romans 10:9-13. Does that not sound a little like "the sinners prayer?" I'm not a Calvinist. Elsewhere, we are told that there is a cost to being a disciple of Jesus (eg. Luke 14: 25-35) and that we must persevere in the faith. (eg. Romans 11:19-22) But if a "sinners prayer" included these elements (which it usually doesn't) I would expect that we would pass from death to life, "the moment we first believe'. Also, to knowingly reject the Gospel (Jesus) is more than "just another sin". (John 3:18)

11:35 "It's not a sin to NOT vote republican"
In the current US political party pool there really isn't many options for Christians to go on with a clear conscience.
If you go with the Democrats, you vote for anti-Biblical policies such as pro-choice, pro-LGBT (i.e. puberty blockers for kids!), etc. (not to mention many authoritarian stances that can cause churches to stay closed but strip clubs to remain open).
If you don't vote Republican or Democrats what are you left with? Green party? That's so left leaning that you might just as well put up the hammer and sickle and sing the USSR anthem.
The only "alternative" that a Christian could MAYBE go with is Libertarian and they are just very secular in nature. You do you and I do me, kind of vibe.
So yeah, Republican it is then, I guess.
But on a side note, in my country we have over 100 political parties to choose from (not nationally) but what it boils down to is that you have top 5 political parties that dominate and the rest fill the 1% gap so to speak (and yeah, pretty much all useless IMHO).

Voting Democrat doesn’t necessarily mean voting for those things. You’re voting for someone who supports them, but if you step back, you’ll see that voting Republican doesn’t magically make abortion go away. It will place restrictions on abortion, but the practice can still be done illegally. It happens anyway. Gotta change hearts before behaviors.

@@Window4503 let me try and understand, what would be a good reason to vote for a party that you do not agree with, especially when they have policies that contradict your value system? Are you not adding your approval to their beliefs, policies and values by voting for them and thus giving them more power to do so? No political party is perfect and no where can things be abolished by just a wave of a pen. I get that you can't change what people want through policy change but I don't think you can just avoid voting either.

I was raised by people who cussed like sailors. Unfortunately I have a brain wasting disease and the things that come out of my mouth are sometimes not even the words that were going through my head. For example, someone sneezes and rather than saying "bless you" I said "blast you"! Reprogramming myself isn't possible. Or I think "I need you to vacuum the floor" but say "Will you mow the floor for me?". No matter what, swear words are the thing that pop out of my mouth and people say it reflects the state of my heart... I think it reflects the damaged brain process that is controlling my language centers. I think God understands this.. do you think He does?

    • @vickiesdaughter
      @vickiesdaughter 3 роки тому

Yes, God understands more than anyone what is going on in your life. Jesus didn't come to condemn us but to save us. Don't worry. It has nothing to do with the state of your heart when your brain is having problems. .I have a personality disorder and when my anger comes out of no where I cuss like a sailor. I always felt bad because I knew God didn't like it, but I've come to realize that sometimes I have no control and I take comfort knowing God knows the whole story

Why would a Christian want to cuss out of the heart the mouth speaks

  • @Schmidlap

Bringing your own "jesus" along is the same as building your golden calf and putting it on a cart. "Here is our god, that brought us out of the wilderness!"
And he came with this convenient cart so I can pull him around wherever I want to. No more following that pillar of cloud and fire!

Hell is not just place where non believers reside after they pass but where they pay for their sins here on earth. I feel as Christians we don’t express this enough. When you are before God when you pass, you are faced with all the sins you’ve committed on Earth. Jesus is your attorney and without salvation you have no attorney so you face the full wrath of God as well as a separation from His love. Even non-believers who don’t know it experience God’s love and without His love alone it’s torturous.

I paused the segment where you said that Gods wrath is sometimes punitive. Could you please expand on that some more in regards to Believers? I know that it is for Unbelievers, but I thought Believers are not subject to the wrath of God and that for a Believer Gods anger would be corrective and to bring us back in to alignment with His will. Perhaps I am misunderstanding. Thank you 😊

One way to measure cussing is when you hear someone who cusses a lot and their are many other fruits that are not Christ like then the greatest likelihood is they are not a christian and should disgust and repel us from those examples as true christians.

Really sad to see Alisa and Pastor Mike get #3 so wrong. In Reagan’s First Epistle to the Americans, it clearly reads, “Thou shalt vote Republican.” (1 Am 17:76) The Nearly Inspired Version (NIV) does not show the big-R capitalisation, but it is present in the Hebrew text. Also, the writer* tells us, “Lo, thou shalt stray neither to the Left nor to the Libertarian, but thy ticket shall be straight.” (2 Am 5:56) Alisa and Pastor Mike need to repent in sackcloth and ashes for this heresy. What’s next?!? “Debts” instead of “Trespasses”, no doubt.

When I hear these arguments all I can think of is Galatians 1:8. These people believe in a different gospel. They are currently accursed from God. May they please repent of their beliefs and truly come to God on his terms. Doug Stoliker
