  • If you have a WIFI 'radio' linked to the Reciva Portal you may have noticed it no longer works properly as the Reciva Portal has closed down.

Was going to put on my Grace Digital radio I bought in 2017 on a sleep station like I usually do and haven’t turned it on for awhile and got this lovely surprise. I loved that radio and now I gotta go buy a new one…

You are lucky Kevin.I reset my nice Grace Mondo and turned the thing into an expensive doorstop. It is completely dead! Grace told me to just buy another radio.

I had the same model as this, bought it around the same time as you and the hardware gave out after about 5 years. I replaced it with a Pure Evoke 1 which was great but also suffered from flaky hardware and gave up the ghost after a similar, possibly slightly longer, period of time. Since then I've used an old iPhone and a Bluetooth speaker. I miss the convenience of a radio-like front end but dodgy kit and being hostage to the Portal owner has dissuaded me, so far, from buying back into Internet Radio. This is likely a stupid question but ... is it not possible for someone to build an Internet Radio that doesn't rely on a specific portal? Cheers 👍🏼

This is the problem with the increasing number of 'cloud' based equipment. Some services go out of business, some change their business model, some change from being free to subscription.

Check your station favorites in the folder MY STUFF. The stations I selected as favorites on my RECIVA account are still there as well as the presets!!! I am hoping yours are still there as well. My station lists are also gone, the same as yours I don't know how long the favorites will still be kept but at least we have the presets until those stations die away! Thanks for your videos!

I used to have the Roberts WM-201. Now useless for internet streaming with the reciva portal gone. The Frontier Nuvola portal is now asking if users would be willing to pay a £4.99 annual subscription.

Yes I saw that request for subscription at the moment I think it only applies to use of the "favourites " feature but I am wondering if its a sign of the times. I suspect if Internet radios go to a subscription based business model then that will be the end of them.

@@KevinOReillyswl Yes, Kevin. It is the favourites feature as you say. I think I could manage without the favourites on my Stream 93i even though it makes the expanse of internet streams more manageable.

Got the same problem, as I have a Sangean radio. I wonder if I can bypass the favourites and search for streams directly?

My dad asked me to look at his Logik radio as it had stopped working. Now I know why! What a massive shame as it was really fun listening to all the different stations. That decision must have created tons and tons of e-waste and bricked radios.

it is a real shame. If your dad is looking for a budget replacement take a look at my videos on the Pure Elan internet radio. That one works well.

Another case of built in obsolescence. At least your presets still work.

the reciva site says it is no longer active, but my pre sets are still working a month later

Your presets are going to work until you decide to change them. Don't do the Factory Reset otherwise your radio became a useless piece of junk

One by one my presets on our Grace radios are becoming inactive. Kevin, it's OK to say forget it, you got your moneys worth out of it. But it's not OK. How would you feel if Apple went belly up? Or Microsoft? The list is endless. Apple last year stopped supporting my photo printer. In the trash it goes.

Frustrating I know but it seems to be a common story with modern tech.

Just goes to show there is no faith in these internet radios. Wonder how long before SkyTune on the newer ones become obsolete!
Should ask these manufacturers for a refund!

@@KevinOReillyswl Excellent news...Lets hope this one keeps going with no issues as I use it a lot...My other radio is an Intempo GX01 which uses the Reciva portal too ...I wondered what was up until I saw your post....Is there no kind of hack which we could implement on our radios which would enable them to connect to a different provider or something....?
