I have to give praise to Thuemmler! Although she faultered on her first pass - that second pass was incredible! That was the highest front tuck I had ever seen in a tumble pass - she is excellent!!!
Silivas deserved gold just on that compulsory floor exercise alone-that was a thing of beauty-her masterpiece at those Games-it put in a league of her own, well ahead of the field going into Finals. Deservedly so.
@WSggs I agree Silivas deserved the gold OVERALL but the Bulgarians deserved the 2 highest scores just in this event final phase itself. I would have given Vodenicharova a 10 for her event finals routine probably even with the cheesy choreography just since the tumbling was several years ahead of its time and so faultless. And Boginskaya winning the silver was a joke, then again her scores and results usually are.
Daniela was definitely overscored here, she made some mistakes. But all the girls look kinda tired here, not surprisingly coz it was the 16th routine of this meet for some of them (Silivas, Shushu, Bogui). Only Vodenicharova looked in perfect form and should have medaled.
Also, as amazing as the 2 Bulgarian girls were in this final, neither (particularly the yonger Bulgarian) quite had the same level of dance/choreography/linking moves of Silivas. But no doubt the Bulgarians were the BEST tumblers.
Silivas won it mostly due to a 9.950 carry over mark, her name had little to do with it. Her difficulty was still out of top draw. But I wanted to see Vodenicharova take silver or bronze.
No way Daniela deserved the gold! The judging by the end of this competition was off!!! a step foward like that was .10 deduction during this code and it was pretty noticeable
Silivas mathmetically would have still outscored Vodenitcharova due to her higher prelimary scores-not to mention a compulsory floor routine which no one else could touch. Compulsories counted towards the finals scores in those days and Diana's were not comparable to Silivas's Team Comps.
I think people are so wrapped up on how gymnastics' code is today that they have hard time understanding what the judging system was like back in 1988. Obviously all the changes that happened since 1988 were a result of fixing things to better score the gymnasts. That said, it's clear the Bulgarians didn't get the Soviet-Romanian bonus points that they received for being Soviets and Romanians. I remember watching a homemade video of the 2001 Worlds FX EF and the person making the video joked about the + 0.3 Romanian bonus.
The final score consisted of 3 marks and that is the reason why Silivas’ win is controversial - she had a superb compulsory routine but she had serious problems in both her optionals and finals (very bad landings on the first pass in both cases) and this was ignored by the judges who stole the gold either from Vodenicharova (if difficulty is preferred) or from Boguinskaya (if you concentrate more on perfection and artistry).
Boguinskaya perfection? Art of Silivas, have you not seen the general women's competition of the same year? Maybe Silivas did not land correctly so she did not get 10 but made 4 diagonals and she had charisma, which united the sport with her art and dance
Vodenitcharova, FLAT OUT ROBBED. PERIOD. If I ever meet this woman, I'd tell her she has not been forgotten by the gymnastics fans. Ahead of her time. Seriously, the difficulty in her passes and dance does not even compare to the "artistry" of today or the difficulty (other than Biles's tumbling).
withlove312 WOW! The Bulgarian girl did THREE E skills under today's code of point.Silivas was WAY WAY WAY OVERSCORED. She used to whip into the first full in and ended with another full in. She stepped forward and still got a 9.987? Ridiculous!
Her compulsory score wasn't the problem it was the score for this particular exercise. It was far too high. Some other comment talks about the judges willing to give Shush a 13 if she hit, and it is absolutely no different with Silivas here. That score was absurd.
I think a 9.950 maybe would have suited better. But she did do the equivalent of 4 passes whereas everyone else did 3. Her carry over mark and high difficulty won her gold.
Thuemmler receiving a 9.6 should have had the judges removed from the Olympics. She went out of bounds and hands down which should have been at least .5 deduction, and was not clean on the other passes either, she deserved nothing higher than 9.4 and the judges knew it. Bulgaria deserved gold and silver on this, (and 10s on both routines) and Silivas deserved 9.90 and the bronze. Boginskaya had no business being on the podium.
Excuse me? The only girl in elite competition at the time to DO a DOUBLE-DOUBLE? Her difficulty was most certainly NOT out of top draw when she did her complete routine!
I wish Dorte Thummler didn’t botch her first pass. She probably would have taken the silver. The second girl from Bulgaria was robbed of a medal. The triple twist was completed way before she landed whereas a lot of girls have to cheat. And a full twisting double to finish. How did Boginskaya take silver with two double twists?
she maybe did the best floor in the final. but there were 3 floor routines for that medal. and she had a carry over score of 9.875. that was the problem. and silivas had 4 passes instead of three. and the first one was a double twisting double back. even today are only 3 girls in the world who are competing that pass. anyway, silivas won mostly because of the carry over score. even with 9.9 she would have been over vodenitcharova.
I must agree, however, Vodenicharova had the hardest routine by far. However it is BOGEY who did not deserve her medal, NOT Silivas. Bogey's nothing tumbling (and did you know in her younger days she worked on both a DLO and a double-double, and it is said also a double front?) should never have been rewarded with high medals. set the stage for such NON-tumbler atrocities later as Ponor and Izbasa!!!
That's a ridiculous comment. She scored 9.987, which was an over score by at least .087 with the mistake on the first tumble. A 9.9 would have tied her with the bronze medallist here, even with the 9.95 carry over.
The Bulgarian in pink was a real kickass! 😍😍
The Bulgarian was amazing. We didnt see her routine on American network. I wouldve remembered that routine! She was fabulous!!!
They were both pretty awesome! I would have let them have gold and silver to be honest.
The Bulgarian in pink! Wow
The entire Bulgariun team was amazing!! Very underrated gymnasts!
I have to give praise to Thuemmler! Although she faultered on her first pass - that second pass was incredible! That was the highest front tuck I had ever seen in a tumble pass - she is excellent!!!

NEVER, she was given that gold without deserving it
@WSggs I agree Silivas deserved the gold OVERALL but the Bulgarians deserved the 2 highest scores just in this event final phase itself. Concordo. Lixo o solo da Boginskaya

i agree but silivas would have won anyway sorry i’m 14 years late lmao😭😭😭
@@randomedits7325 And I agree 14 years later. :-) Oh yes, the time, it flies...
Also, as amazing as the 2 Bulgarian girls were in this final, neither (particularly the yonger Bulgarian) quite had the same level of dance/choreography/linking moves of Silivas. But no doubt the Bulgarians were the BEST tumblers.
The Bulgarian girl in pink deserves min silver medal. Bias scoring 😡
Vodenitcharova - Wow. I'd never seen her before. Gorgeous work, but someone get that girl some sweat guards.
wow vodenicherova had some pretty good tumbling runs there. her lift into the last one was great!
I really love the performance of the girl from GDR... so much of power and creativity ..
My scores in the final:
Vodencharova 9.988
Dudeva 9.95
Boginskaya 9.938
Silivas 9.925
Medals:
1. Silivas 19.875
2. Vodench. 19.863
3. Dudeva/ Boginskaya 19.850
Silivas won it mostly due to a 9.950 carry over mark, her name had little to do with it.
Her difficulty was still out of top draw.
But I wanted to see Vodenicharova take silver or bronze.
Best Olympics ever! Silivas and Elena’s battle was the best ever! RIP Elena S
Gorgeous , gorgeous floor work!!! I wish she medalled!! Oh, It was flawless!
No way Daniela deserved the gold! The judging by the end of this competition was off!!! a step foward like that was .10 deduction during this code and it was pretty noticeable

What were most of the judges thinking giving Silivas a 10 and Vodencharova a 9.95?
They were probably instructed to keep the bronze for Thummler
The final score consisted of 3 marks and that is the reason why Silivas’ win is controversial - she had a superb compulsory routine but she had serious problems in both her optionals and finals (very bad landings on the first pass in both cases) and this was ignored by the judges who stole the gold either from Vodenicharova (if difficulty is preferred) or from Boguinskaya (if you concentrate more on perfection and artistry).

The Bulgarian pink. Was amazing🎉🎉🎉
So, basically some gymnasts won and others didn't. That's life. Let's all move on. This was a great batch of gymnasts to watch.

Vette gaddia it was an overall system from the compulsory until finals. Sílivas got 10 from compulsory.
Her compulsory score wasn't the problem it was the score for this particular exercise. It was far too high. Some other comment talks about the judges willing to give Shush a 13 if she hit, and it is absolutely no different with Silivas here. That score was absurd.

Fabulosas las 3

+metsedudenj To be fair, that may have been a .3 deduction in the code. It wasn't weight bearing.
It was only .30 deduction for both hands down... so the judges gave her a 9.70 then the head judge taking off the mandatory .10
Exactly my point... it should've been that way.
I never saw the first 2 girls and I saw every gymnast on network tv there was. The fix was in. Too bad.
Excuse me? The only girl in elite competition at the time to DO a DOUBLE-DOUBLE? Her difficulty was most certainly NOT out of top draw when she did her complete routine!
Indeed.
1. Silivas
🎉
its jazz carnival by azymuth
the choreo was very 80s!
I meant Deliana Vodenitcharova!!

What does it matter?

Vodenitcharova should've won the Gold. what bullshit favoritism. Bull
