currently in Suriname... I am a nurse here... having difficulty in understanding Dutch... ur videos are of great help for beginners like me :) Dankjewel!
I am weldehiwot from Eritrea. I have been in Netherlands since 2016.Now I am so glad to participate your videos lesson.I like it the way of interaction in this videos lesson.I love it your lesson.Thank you so much I hope I will master the language of dutch withen short period of time.
Thanks a lot (Danke je wel) very helpful. Very enjoyable, you have a good sense of humour and your English is impeccable. Topics for future videos could be: 1) directions (north, south etc, left, right, straight, to, from, across etc.) and pretending to book a train from one Dutch city to another; 2) ordering things in a restaurant, simple phrases like "I would like/want this", "I don't want that" etc.
@KaterinaScorps the reversed e is a symbol in the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) which is used to express a sound. It doesn't exist in the Dutch alphabet, I just showed it for people who know IPA from studying language at uni or something :) The ë is used to indicate a syllable border. So, in words like "patiënt" we use it to show it's pronounced "pa-ti-ent" and not "pa-tient". :).
Having a best friend from Netherlands & always been curious with Dutch, I try to learn it now. Hopefully I'll make progress after dozens of time playing the videos. Thank you so much for making it easy, Miss!
Ik spreek perfect nederlands , ik ben namelijks Vlaams. Maar ik vind het toch zeer amusant om ze te bekijken. Je legt alles zeer goed uit , zelfs je Engelse uitspraak is zeer mooi. Ik heb al veel Nederlandse mensen gehoord die Engels praten , en dat klonk nogal vreemd... Goed werk , houden zo !
Thanl ypu for your lessons, you make me understand so easy! I would like to know about: the animals, the months, the colors or some basic topics like that.. :) Doei :)
I just love your videos! I'm new to your channel, but I absolutely love it! You are so clear and have a great method of teaching. It reminds me of when I first started learning English at school when I was little. Greetings from Portugal :)
I am Norwegian, and my family are living in The Netherlands. Exept from my parents, they can Norwegian. But I really wanted to talk Netherlands with my family, and tou help me alot! Zeer bedankt! :D
I'm German and the pronouncing is very easy. Because it sounds like the "koelscher" dialect and I can repeat the words without issues. Your videos are great. I have more fun to learn Dutch now. 👍🏼 dank je wel 🙂
I Love the way you speak Dutch, I´m chilean and My native language is spanish, but I always wanted to learn English. that´s why I studied more than 3 years English and lately I´ve felt like learning Dutch. Hope you keep uploading Videos about how to learn Dutch.. take care and also let me tell you that I love staring at you while smile.. Bye
your videos are great and soo helpful! i'm South African and speak Afrikaans , its alot like dutch so learning it is pretty easy, although i am struggling to understand when to use het or de before words but ill get there , thankyou lidewij, keep it up!
thank u so much for this video! i was in amsterdam during the world cup finally and fell in love with the place and i'm trying to learn dutch on my own. i speak fluent armenian so the pronunciations aren't too difficult for me
U are really a very good online presenter and i have loved to speak dutch language in my life but have not yet learnt it . guess i would love to have u as a teacher . I love your video and i guess i like u too
Thanks for your wonderful videos! I'm trying to learn Dutch by myself... it's hard but I like it... An idea for your next videos? Countries of the world and relevant nationalities, together with useful sentences such as (Where are you from or What nationality are you?)... Ciao from Italy!!!
veery good work. I only live 30 kilometres away from the border to the netherlands and i never learned much. so pity. thanks for this awesome videos! :D
I'm always amazed listening to Dutch that there are some occasional vowels and consonants that are just like English -- the word "over" for example. I'm so used to no other language besides US English rounding its RRRRrs the way we do (even other versions of English like in the UK) that it still shocks me to hear it so prevalent in Dutch! :)
@SPNDW79 "morgen" means both tomorrow and morning :D Another way of saying 'morning' is 'ochtend' :) I'm glad the G isn't too hard :D What is your native language? :)
@KaterinaScorps hey :D Not 100% sure, but as far as I know these are the rules: The American R is never used in the onset of a syllable - the 'onset' being the letters BEFORE the vowel. This means only Rs that occur after the vowel in a syllabe can sound American :) For other Rs I use a back-of-the-mouth R. This doesn't mean everyone does that - there are also people that use tongue-tip Rs in ALL cases - while I never do. It's a matter of where you come from, I guess :) Hope that helps!
A very nice video lesson in Dutch. My compliments! For those that see similarities between the Dutch language and German and Danish: These languages share some roots. Untill the Middle Ages, in parts of North-Western Europe (Germany, the Netherlands incl. Belgium and northern France and parts of Scandinavia) the language 'Diets' was spoken, from which different languages developped. Also, there was intense trade going on between "Hanse" cities in our countries that led to common words.
@dutchforn00bs Well it's because our accent in the south is the accent wich is closest to for example German and dutch. We have some accents in the west that are distant relatives with norwegian accents, accent's in the east wich sound like some baltic accent or something.
@dutchforn00bs Wow... what a pleasure, an answer from you!!! Well, I like learning foreign languages and I already speak Italian (which is my mother tongue), French, Spanish, Portuguese and English and I decided to learn a new foreign languages, I choose Dutch because 5 years ago I visited both Vlandeeren and the Netherlands and it was an amazing experience!!!! and I enjoy this new challange!!!
@dutchforn00bs hey do you think you could make a vid on the dutch colours ive looked for it but i cant find a good one your the only vids that are clear! :)
hello , you are the best one who make me talk a little dutch , i really appreciate what you did . bty im Arabian and i talk english well , also i like to talk other languages life Frech and i do begin with it . but dutch is a great language to learn , because its really weird , with weird accents . so thanks again merci dank jou شكرا in arabic
@fIugasche Actually, in Dutch 'middag' means not only lunchtime, but all hours between 12 AM and 6 PM (12.00 - 18.00). We don't know the difference that the German language knows between 'Vormittag' and 'Nachmittag'. ('namiddag' is used seldomly nowadays: it is a rather old fashioned word in Dutch. To indicate 'late in the afternoon' we say : 'laat in de middag' of 'tegen de avond')
Thanks for your videos they are very helpful, I was wondering if maybe you could make a video sounding out long and short vowels and maybe explain an easy way to sound out the dutch letter g cause i have problems with that :P lol.
You're a great teacher! Your lesson on pronouncing the letter "g" helped so much although I can't imagine (yet) ever feeling at ease with it! :) All the best!
@ashkillsben6 I've already made a video about the long and the short A, and I'll make videos about the other vowels in the future. The G is hard to explain, but I'll try ;D
hi, love your videos, very helpful ! really appreciate it ! can u please make a video telling how to pronounce the "G" in dutch, like gaat and goed. becoming very difficult for me. Thank you !
i'm celebrating christmas this year in holland because my bf has family down there.. this is helpful :) dankjewel :D omg i think I spelled that correctly? must celebrate with a glass of water!
@fku89 hey, the w does always sound like it sounds in week, but it's not the same as a v! I made a video about the pronunciation of the W. It's on my channel in the playlist "Dutch Pronunciation" :)
Why did you just abandoned this channel, you are as sweet teacher and your way of teaching is very nice. If you would be regular then your subscriber base would be in millions today.
Yes, if you look on wiktionary, it shows you overmorrow and ereyesterday as archaic synonyms of the day after tomorrow and the day before yesterday, respectively. It is good to hear Afrikaanse again.
@dutchforn00bs is het niet gewoon dagen van de week? volgens mij bestaat het woord weekdagen niet :P maar ik weet het ook niet zeker, ik weet eigenlijk ook niet waarom ik dit kijk aangezien ik nederlands ben XD
where i was born we had gutteral slag words like gaan which is also a dutch word and words like that its just i dont live there anymore so its been a while since ive used em but im ok with the g
It sounded like a mix of the english and scandinavian alphabet. When you said "Vrijdag" you sounded almost exactley like if someone from south Sweden would say "fredag"
@miezziej Ok, so basically, it's like the pronunciation of the "the" in english. I mean, there's no difference wether you say "I go to de videoclub" or "I go to die videoclub". Unless there's some rule about the germanic root of "the" (die/der)? Mmm?
Never heard of "ereyesterday" (is that two days ago) and "overmorrow" (after two days). But Afrikaans has "naaseergister" (3 days ago) and "naasoormôre" (after 3 days).
I definitely prefer dutch to german now xD Purely because morning and tomorrow are different words, rather than just being "morgen" only one having a capital letter at the start and the other not. It ALWAYS confuses me.
currently in Suriname... I am a nurse here... having difficulty in understanding Dutch... ur videos are of great help for beginners like me :) Dankjewel!
Yes I'm learning because of my heritage is surinamese

Thanks for the suggestion :) It's onnn the list of videos to come now :D
Is there any particular reason you're learning Dutch? :) Or just for fun?

@christizeee Thank you! Why are they interested in learning Dutch? :)
I am Norwegian, and my family are living in The Netherlands. Exept from my parents, they can Norwegian. But I really wanted to talk Netherlands with my family, and tou help me alot! Zeer bedankt! :D
I love it to listen to your videos. It remainds me allways of informal german, but also swedish does. :)
The RR of the Dutch language scratch up the sky! But it is a very Beautiful language! Thank you very much for the lessons!
I'm German and the pronouncing is very easy. Because it sounds like the "koelscher" dialect and I can repeat the words without issues. Your videos are great. I have more fun to learn Dutch now. 👍🏼 dank je wel 🙂

@ahmcity why thank you! :)
Your lesson is good. I am writing after 10 years. You can continue to share...

Thank you !
@fIugasche That.. is not true. "Middag", like afternoon, refers to the time between lunch and dinner (or noon-6pm), not lunch time.
i'm celebrating christmas this year in holland because my bf has family down there.. this is helpful :) dankjewel :D omg i think I spelled that correctly? must celebrate with a glass of water!
I just am enjoying this mooi !!! Is there a order we should be watching these videos?
@fku89 hey, the w does always sound like it sounds in week, but it's not the same as a v! I made a video about the pronunciation of the W. It's on my channel in the playlist "Dutch Pronunciation" :)

dutchforn00bs - you're very sweet and also your excellent english is one of the reason for saying it :) Greetings from Rome,Italy(by one Bulgarian) ;p
@mtjlarkin Hey! It's "vandaag", not "vaandag". The double aa is indeed pronounced differently :)
you have a birthday? I do too, but not morgen, it's in the summer, when it's warm and cosy on the rocks by the water...
mmm rocks..
Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. Bedankt 😁
