Im 19 and I’m a petite girl. People usually think I’m around 13 cause I look really young especially on my face. People always underestimate me and act like I’m weak so thank you very much for this video!
OMG, I found my tribe! No one takes me seriously! Yesterday someone said that I was "tooooooo young" to red lipstick 🙄, I"ll be 28 in 6 days. Also, 16 year old boys flirting with me is the worst!
omg i feel you! i'm soon 17 and have these 9-12 year old boys around me looking at me and falling in love.... i notice so many boys having a crush on me and it's so annoying because the boys my age think i'm 13 ughhh
Whenever I go to the mall the only people I notice check me out are high school kids 🙃 like noooo please don't look my way, I'm at least 8 years older than them.
Same. I am so short but i also have such a young looking face this makes it hard to be taken seriously or get a job. Im almost 20 but i look 14, most people say i look 13 or 14.
“Impress your 5 y o self and your 85 y o self. Those are the only people who count” - this is the quote I needed to be hearing throughout my whole life
Ok guys can you stop saying “I want to look younger “ in the comments? This is for girls that want to look older .... I have plenty of girl friends that are short and petite, and they try to look more mature and older, people don’t take them seriously.
This has been my experience in HS, guys my age probably didn't see me as a potential partner because I looked quite younger than my actual age and was also awkward/shy. The situation has changed now, but people still carry on making jokes about how my younger friends look more "adult" than I do. 🙄 I'm quite a late-bloomer in all areas of "adult life", I don't know if it's due to me looking younger than my age, but I definitely think it's correlated and has shaped my experience of the world in some ways
YES!!! It doesn't help that when I am feeling comfortable I have a naturally bubbly, playful personality. Right now I am in a situation where a young male co-worker started flirting with me...he is about 17 years my junior! At 37, I am now seriously beginning to wonder if my ability to marry is going to hinge on how comfortable I am with robbing the cradle. And, if I do meet someone my age, how comfortable are they going to be with the appearance of robbing the cradle themselves? It really makes potential relationships tricky.
Yess. I think about the same thing. I'm 28 and feel people will see me and think I'm too young. The only thing that can help that is the context in which you meet the person.
Yes I understand and my confidence is suffering because of that, I feel like I am not seen as a woman, I am not pretty enough, and that I will never get married...
In a sea of "how to look younger" videos on UA-cam, this video is a breath of fresh air. "Looking the part" is extremely important for a young woman's credibility and skill, and thank you for taking the time to acknowledge that. I wish it were easier for women to just receive basic respect in the workforce without having to change their appearance, but if this is the way it has to be, you did an excellent job of demonstrating some key points. Thank you!!!
I’m 21 and people still think that I’m in high school. Please, I just want to be taken seriously and seen as an adult and not a teenager. Thank you for these tips!
Thank you for this video. It feels good to know we’re not alone! I’m 34, looking like 18-20. It’s so annoying when people won’t take you seriously because they assume you’re way younger than you are. How many times did I hear : “You’re so cute”, “You’re too young for that”, “Can I see your ID please”, “You’ll see when you’ll be older”… I own my business as a figure skating coach and every time I say I’ve been skating for almost 30 years people are like “you mean 13 right?!?”… To all the people who wish they could younger, trust me, it’s not a blessing to, almost, never been taken seriously.
Here's the thing about the "you'll love it when you're older" comment. Sure, I'll think its a cute little compliment when I'm 50 and beyond but that doesn't make up for the lack dates when I was a teenager b/c I looked like a 5th grader, the lack of job offers, the promotions that passed me up the 10,000 times someone asked the less-knowledgeable colleague next me a question when I'm staring them in the face. This feature things can deeply affect self-esteem and definitely affects my lifetime earnings which means by the time I'm enjoying that 'compliment' from the cute 20-something waiter, it will be at the discount night at the local applebee's because that's all I will be able to afford in retirement. I'd gladly take the respect and admiration in my teens/20s/30s/40s and trade that for looking older at 60.
My thing is when people say, "you're so cute" I understand they mean well and that they don't mean to be condescending but it's the fact that when you're "cute" you are automatically simply lesser in a way. You aren't really taken seriously... I just politely smile and say thank you though...
That's the word: "lesser " exactly how I feel and it's exhausting, as a woman you already have to prove your worth so much more to the world. So to have a disadvantage to look "lesser" feels like a curse to be honest , just wanna stay home so I don't have to deal with it !
It’s hard when patients see me and they’re like “are you even old enough”. I’m always getting doubted. I have been stopped by airport staff saying I can’t travel alone. I feel like I’m getting judged in Victoria secret, like why is this 12 year old looking at lingerie. So can people stop telling me that I’m lucky I look young? It’s not fun to have people treat me like a child and talk down to me like “awh.. sweety... you are so cute” when we’re the same age.
I can totally understand you, I always go buy something at a near store and People there told me little girl or why did you come alone like dude.. Im almost 21 :(
Bri Bri EDM yas is so upsetting, that sometimes brings my confidence down🥺 sometimes I’d like to slap them/ or either run away because of embarrassment. People sometimes are very harsh with their words and they would not realize that what they’ve said might hurt somebody else... Stay safe sis💝
My mum has always looked young. She's almost 50 now and I'm 22. People younger than her treat her like she has no life experience. Then when we say she's my mum they look at her like I'm her mistake... Then when they find out her real age they're confused. It's hilarious now, but she didn't always enjoy it for sure
Wow, finally someone that understands my pain! I hate when people say "you look younger than your age" they have no idea how much it hurts and how disrespectful it sounds. It has me thinking "so how can I make myself look older or at least my age". Thank you for making this video Bethany!
Baby face disorder is REAL. Thank you for making this. I feel like it’s often easier for people to look younger, retinol is easy to get ahold of, but looking older is a challenge. Contouring can only do so much when you have round cheeks.
I find it incredibly rude when people tell me I 'should be happy to look X years younger than I am'. I don't go around telling people that they have aged badly and they should be happy about that! Thanks for making these kind of videos. Really helpful :) x
The shorter hair thing is SPOT ON! I’ve had long hair down to my mid back for years! It was healthy and I kept it styled. BUT simply getting it cut to chest/shoulder height yesterday completely changed the way I look! I look SO much more mature!
I’m 27 and this video is a gift!! 🎁 I’m petite and baby-faced and get confused for being in high school aaaaalll the time. 😭 I’m definitely going to be using these tips!
Brings back memories. I was teaching high school when I was 23. The school had casual Fridays, and on that day the teachers would wear jeans. I got stopped by a colleague in the hallway because she thought I was skipping class. 😭
Lol right! I remember in my early 20s I used to have anxiety about going to the grocery store during the day for fear of someone thinking I'm skipping a high school class 😂
I have an Asian friend who really struggles with this since she's a teacher. Her students sometimes show disrespect since she looks so young 😥 she tried to cut her hair, change her outfits and wear more makeup but that's such a big chunk of your time and energy everyday spent on appearance...
As a 5’0 petite Asian woman with a baby face, thank you for this video! I’m starting my job as a lawyer this January and in need of some work clothes! I’ll be sure to apply your pointers to anything I pick out.
I am 18, 5’1” with a low BMI and I have been told I look and sound 12. A previous boss of mine almost didn’t hire me and accused me of lying about my age. I want to be seen as an adult. Thank you for this video, I feel validated. 💖
Girl, I understand and relate to all of this. I'm 4'8" and 21. I get treated by others like a 15 year old, and it's so frustrating. Being called cute irritates the shit out of me, because I know it's not because of me, but because of my height.
Same here too Im 4 ft 10 and 36 years but still people act gobsmacked when they learn my age and say i look 15 an ask how come you look so young lol I dont make much effort to try looking glam or mature though lol but i used too an i didnt think it helped at all ,
Last year I got handed a bunch of pamphlets in a museum to "hand out to my classmates at school"... I graduated university five years ago 😒 I've also been legally allowed to buy alcohol for over 10 years but still get ID'd every single time. It's SO frustrating and one of the worst things is how nobody understands how frustrating it is. I don't care about looking young, I just want to be taken seriously! (Although I do have to say, I got the babyface gene from my mom and she does actually love it now that she's older 😜)
@Loepsie: First of all LOVE YOURSELF.It' your life, you have the right whatever you like. Unfortunately, we are living in a very judgmental society where we have to behave according to their 'IDEAL' vision. Don't pay any heed to others.
Me too: my mom is 51 years old but looks 38/40 and a man thought she was my bigger sister. I'm a young lady from Italy and when I visited London a waiter, a Policeman and an agent of a Museum all wanted to see my ID (the Waiter because I ordered a beer, I don't understand the agent of the Museum Who also said that looking younger I Will be very beautiful in my 40's. I run in the museum, no investigation about It but It was weird). PS: OMG I've just discovered that you have a wonderful Channel and the bangs of my Dreams (next week hairdresser I'm here).
Dearly Bethany I’m 5’2 100lbs and 47 yrs old. I got carded for a glass of wine. It felt pretty good! However...I do feel you when people who are younger than me call me “sweetie!” 😠
I’m turning 30 in few months and I’m super frustrated to hear all the time “ wow, I thought you were 18 or 20 yr old maximum ” It’s hard to look older but I’m definitely going to apply your tips. Thank you so much for helping!
Thank you for this! I'm 28 but people think I'm younger, and this problem is particularly frustrating in professional settings. I'm a journalist, so it's important to command respect when I'm interviewing someone in a position of power like a police chief - but usually people think I'm an college intern, so they rarely give me that respect. Looking older (or at least my age) is definitely a priority for me.
Totally understand this! As a senior designer for my day job, I work with clients on a daily basis and it is something I have dealt with for years now. All we can do is do our best to portray maturity through the way we dress and communicate. Much love Kasia! 🤗
I was a journalist right out of college, and so many municipal representatives treated me like garbage! I always tried to dress professionally, even though the other reporters mostly wore jeans, but I sometimes wonder if that made everyone think I thought I was better than them (small town where a lot of people my parents' age and older didn't go to college, and were the ones holding office). 🤷
Sarah Accordino Same here! At my last job at a small-town newspaper I always wore heels and a pencil skirt. I’m sure some of my coworkers thought I was vain, but I was just trying to get by without being asked “Are you old enough to work for the newspaper?” (Which, of course, occasionally happened.)
I’m 63 now. Used to have this problem all the time. From 17 to about 40. Was so frustrating not being taken as seriously. Had 14 year olds trying to befriend me or date me. It eventually ended. This has really caused a lot of memories to flood back.
Thank you for making this! I’m 24 and often get mistaken for being a teenager. I think it’s important for petite girls to realise the tips you mentioned, because people can take advantage of you if you give off ‘childlike’ vibes.
I'm in the same boat and sometimes teenage girls look me up and down as if im like competition to them cause i dress well ...they have no idea i could be their older sister or something lmao
@@sumerurose8586lol same teenage girls get so threatened by me like I'll steal their bf. Like girl I'm in my 20s 😂 even your bfs are like my younger bros.
I’m a medical student.... and it’s so awkward when I’m seeing patient (mid 20s) and they think I’m a teenage. 🙁 I’ve never heard someone talk about this before. 🙌🏻
It’s about time someone makes a video about this topic. Thank you very much for addressing this. I’m 33 yrs old and my height is 5”4. I’ve been told my entire adult life that i look like I’m in high school. It has always bothered me when people say that to me. I don’t see it as a gift in any way. My husband is 10 yrs older than me and he’s been told by random people that they thought I was his daughter. Before I had my 2 boys, I was often told to put on some weight because apparently I was too thin. I can go on and on about this. I too have also felt that people I have worked with never took me serious including family. I have always felt till this day that people in any room still view me as a kid and it stresses me out every time without fail. I have tried finding ways to present myself more maturely in public events, family get togethers, etc but don’t feel that I have mastered it yet. Thank you very much for providing great advice. I will most definitely be applying this to my day to day life. Thank you!!
I'm a teacher and I have the exact same problem! My middle school students think I look like a highschooler! (And also my peers think this too). I'm also petite and skinny, and have small boobs- which does not help at all!!
I’m 19 and when I went to a restaurant with my family and little cousins I was given the same kids snack plate as the 3 and 8 year old- pita bread with grapes cut in HALF.
This video comes at a perfect time. I'm turning 32 next month and I work in a daycare centre for kids with special needs - as a consultant and kind of "the one with the expert knowledge" (which is how my colleagues refer to me). Last week the mum of a new child came up to me and asked whether I was an intern. I'm confident in what I'm doing and everything, but I have to admit that that was a bit disheartening. So thank you for talking about this topic!
The voice thing is VERY important. When you are conscious of how high or low your voice sounds, you can get more control over it. Talk slow, breathe after every sentence instead of saying "uhh". Maybe even stop yourself from filling a silent moment so that you can think of what to say next. I lower my voice and I even talk more silently when I want people to really listen in on me. Obviously I'm not gonna whisper as if I'm insecure about what I'm saying, I just want to lower my voice so I know people will HAVE to listen more intently. Doing these things also works a bit on your mood, so you'll calm down automatically usually.
I'm not even petite but this is so relevant to me. I'm 22 and just started a doctorate program in clinical psychology. All of my clients will be considerably older than me so it will help me to look older.
I requested something like this a few months ago and literally squealed when i saw it in my subscriptions. No one else has tips on this! Sick of hearing "you'll appreciate it when you're 40" lol. Thank you!
I'm tired of young guys (minors!) Flirting with me. This could get me in serious trouble if I say the wrong thing. I also have doctors who really don't take me seriously and always equate my problems to stress/I'm making a big deal
I'm 28 and as a registered nurse I always get asked: "Are you even old enough to be my nurse?". It's extremely frustrating. But I will absolutely use these tips in my everyday life. Thank you so much for sharing them with us!
I’m 23, finished pharmacy school and started working as a pharmacist but everyone thinks I’m the pharmacist’s daughter or some random assistant and doesn’t trust me with their prescription lol, I feel your pain girl!
I'm 23 and about to graduate from nursing school. Nursing is my 2nd degree. I'm terrified of not being taken seriously when I get my first nursing job. I studied hard for years and something like looking young can ruin someone's confidence in you. So frustrating
I’m graduating college and people keep thinking I’m 14, it really makes me feel like I’m not taken seriously and that I don’t know what I’m talking about when I hear this every day. Thank you for the advice.
I just make a little list for myself and you: -hairstyles: nothing too cute (glitter, clips, long hair), Colour more natural -wardrobe: invest in good items in order to have them a long time, quality (earrings...), not too trendy -colours: basic colours (white, black, grey, brown) with pop of colour -Comfort: underlines you old/young look -Feel good in your clothes and in your body🥰
This is crazy! I have been searching for a video like this for the past week! I'm 23 y/o and 5ft tall and I am so tired of people assuming I'm a highschooler. Thank you for your tips!
Oh my gosh yes! I say this all the time and people are always like 'you'll be thankful when you're older'. But would anybody say 'wow you look 15' to a man in a professional situation, no because they would be offended. The same goes for women.
Preach! This is great. I have always struggled with people assuming I'm a teenager or younger, and as I'm looking for a job right now where I'll be working with high schoolers, I find it frustrating to be seen as or treated so young.
I very rarely rarely comment on videos but thank you so much for creating this. At 20 as someone who is barely 5 foot, petite EVERYWHERE and lives in heels, it is so hard to be taken seriously. Having men/women tower over me does nothing for my confidence and does more to devalue me and make me feel childlike as if nobody will take me seriously than anything else. Ill start a job in the new year with a huge corporate firm and people's perception of me is still something i worry about. But this video and the fact that I got the job AFTER having seen me, i feel much more reassured that my skills 'reach' far beyond my height.
Someone knocked on my door trying to sell something and asked if my mom was home lol. I am 29 and look like I am 17 which is why I've always tried dressing more mature for my age. It helped a lot! I used to hate looking so much younger but now that 30 is around the corner, I have learned to embrace that people still think I am in high school when I am working out in gym clothes and no make up on. Power to the petites!!!
You address this so well. A few people have told me to shake off the frustration of being perceived as younger, but it really does cut deep because it kind of erases everything you have fought for and achieved. Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience (and tips) so gracefully.
"Impress my 5 year old self and my 80 year old self" honestly one of the best things I've heard on UA-cam! Being genuine and mature in life. I loved this video! Thank you for picking this topic for us petites.
This is a great video because many of us struggle in the workplace. When I was in my late 20s, people would ask me where I was going to college. No one wanted to sell me a car and asked me to come back with my parents. My coworkers talked over me during meetings. Looking young is a blessing, but can also be very frustrating... so thank you for these tips. Great video!
Loved this video. I’m turning 28 this year. My twin sister and I deal with this all the time. People who we work with think we’re 16 or 18 and it’s getting to the point when we’re embarrassed to tell people how old we are lol. Im happy while reading the comments that I’m not alone lol. Great tips 💖
Gah! This is the worst! I’m not petite, but my boss called me “cute” in front of everyone at a business meeting recently when I shook someone’s hand confidently. It’s infuriating!
Literally every single point is something I’ve thought about and recently been trying to change. I have super long hair and although it’s really pretty and everyone tells me not to cut it, I think a long bob type style would make me look a little more mature. I’m 32 and people always think I’m not even 21. So annoying and people always try to say oh it’s a compliment 😑
Same! I used to have long natural wavy hair and although people love it, i decided to cut it off for a change. Now i have. Poxie hair and people say I look more mature but fresh.
I don't think length is the issue in a professional work environment, it's styling it that is key! Keep it long if you love it that length but learn to do chignons, French twist etc ie NOT a messy bun or top knot or pony tail or doing nothing and leaving it down -- all of these exude an immature less polished vibe unfortunately
I’m 24 years old but people still think I’m in high school when in reality I graduated college last year. It bothers me when they say it’s a good thing to look young but for me right now it’s not. It will be when I’m over 35 but not right now (for me)
Not gunna lie, upon reading the title my initial thought was that of everyone else's in the comment section- why would you want to look older ?? but I totally get what you're saying. Renting an apartment, buying a car, discussing business...so many instances where looking older/professional can come in handy. Also, I appreciate how you included pictures of people who don't just look like you. That's really cool. Great video!
This came out just in time! I’m also a very petite girl in my early 30 with 10 years in my professional field of work but people that don’t know this treat me like I’m fresh out of college even talking down at me. I remember it got so bad at my last project that I had to quit because they appointed a 21 year old girl to supervise me and she thought I was hired just to make coffee, copies and grab the mail.
I recently got asked what grade I was in 😳 it's frustrating to be a mature and responsible woman who doesn't get taken seriously. This is a breath of fresh air! Thank you.
Thank you so much for this! I’m so small and short haha and I get this all the time. I get told I look like I’m 13-14 and I’m 22. It bothers me to no end. I have a masters degree and people think I’m in 7th grade! Thanks for making this video
Thank you so much for this video!! The way you described how you feel when someone tells you that you look younger is exactly how I feel. It is nice to know that you are not alone.
I love this video!! I’m petite and people consistently think I’m much younger. I don’t think anyone understands this frustration and they always say “it’ll be good when you’re older”. I appreciate the sentiment but I need to be taken seriously and respected now.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm 22 and have been told multiple times in professional situations that I look 12...thanks for making me feel less alone on this! I think styling your hair can totally help too. I've dressed in neutrals, but if my hair is natural I'm still treated as immature; whereas if I style my hair I get more respect. It's kinda bullshit that we have to do all this but glad we can help each other out! Thanks again girlie!
About a year ago I was texting my friend and sent her a picture of my boyfriend and I cause we had just started dating at that point. She had the NERVE to say “Oh my god! Girl you look exactly the same as you did in junior year! Like you have not aged.” She wouldn’t let it go and kept laughing about it and it honestly really hurt my feelings. I felt like if I saw her in the future she’d say the same thing again. I get it that I look young but you don’t need to keep telling me over and over again to make me feel even more insecure about it.
I’m 21, and I’m cursed with good genes that make me look young. Even when I dress older, I’m mistaken for a 16/17 year old. But my mom is 40 and still gets carded for alcohol so I just embrace my baby face, because these good genes will be a blessing in my future.
thank you for this. Ageism is real and it's quite frustrating. I'm always told , you're lucky, but there have been many times that it has been a disadvantage in the work place. I'm 26 and I get mistaken for a highschooler all the time
I love your videos. Your words resonate with me and what stage of life I’m in right now. Whenever I feel down about how influencers encourage buying trendy pieces or low quality garments from fast fashion stores, I watch your videos and think, “this is what style is.”
It would be awesome to see examples of interview outfits for petites if you are trying to look more mature and professional! Maybe another video idea. Love your videos so much 💜
I get this all of the time. I have a son who is 9 about to be 10, and people think It can’t be possible that I am his mom. Thank you for doing topics like this that no one talks about. People think this is a compliment, and not realizing they are offending me.
I’m starting a job as an Area Manager where I’ll be responsible for 200 employees. I’m 25 years old and I keep hearing comments about how my employees won’t take me seriously because I look 16. Thank you so much for this video!
I've struggled with this for YEARS. It is so frustrating, especially working in the mental health field with kids and parents. I need to be taken seriously and respected. I am petite and have often been told I look young. I've worked hard at this for 2 years but finally feel like I feel satisfied. I get teens at work guessing that I'm in my 30s rather than barely 18 when I'm 26. I started buying more classic pieces in petite sizes. I got away from leggings and sweats and instead started choosing clothes more mindfully for the environment. I traded sneakers for a pair of pointed low heel boots or thicker strap sandals. I started paying attention to the details of clothes that make it look juvenile, or how people younger and older than me dress. A teen at work recently said I "dress like an old lady" and "seem like I've been in this work for a while" which, although he doesn't know it, is the biggest complement from a teenage boy 😆 Besides that, I worked on emotional maturity and speaking more fluidly. I found people to look up to and model after, who I meet and think "wow they are so well spoken!" It has made a huge difference.
I have a nearly pathological fear of looking old even though I’m 26, but these are still very sensible tips if you need to be taken seriously in a given context. It’s my first day as a teacher today and I’m definitely scared of being mistaken for a student so I’ll take all the tips you can give me! X 😊
Omg thank you for bringing this up!! I have struggled with this for a long time and although I’m still young, it’s one of my biggest pet peeves when people underestimate me for my age. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️
Loved it especially because it's something no one ever talks about and most people consider not a big problem, but it is really frustrating. Thanks, great tips!
I am so glad that someone made this video! Being deemed as younger has been something I’ve dealt with all of my life. Now that I’m in professional career, I want to be taken seriously. So thank you!
A very thoughtful topic, thank you. I am a mature (64 yrs old) petite stature, subscriber, but enjoy your sense of style for any age. The commentary is well curated and assembled. I am glad you have touched upon this topic, as it is not often addressed. P.s. -love the quality of your videos and audio is deep and rich. Keep up the great work.
From my experience, I do make up everyday. Sometimes bolder. Mostly natural colors. Doesn't help much. Not even once when I wore whatever makeup people guessed my exact age. I'm 24 and get 18 at most.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 "I want to impress my five year old self & I want to impress my eighty-five year old self & those are the only people that really matter" Awesome video 🙌🏽💞🇬🇧
Being a doctor some people ask me how old I am with a mean tone... so I quickly answer them old enough to be your doctor and prove them wrong by being skilled and firm. But most people are impressed because they think I am a young 16 year old genius 😂
Ugh the struggle of being perceived as child-like rather than womanly sucks 😭 It feels like sneakers, oversized t-shirts & cute hairstyles, etc are things I have to miss out on because as soon as I try em, I personally feel less like a mature woman. The insecurity that it can come with, especially if you happen to be petite & slim 😔 It's easy to stop feeling as feminine or womanly as others seem to look.
I'm the same and when I meet a patient for the first time I just say "Hi Mrs. X! I'm Y, and I'm your doctor". I try and keep it lighthearted so I don't sound pretentious, but then they know from the get go why I'm there. I also look young but have a deeper voice, so the combo of the words and voice usually sets the tone well from the start
I'm petite and im 27, ive always struggled with people respecting my and my decisions at work, particularly. So, I've been trying to dress older and appear my actual age, as many comment on how young I look. It's held me back a lot career-wise. Thanks for the video!!
I'm 22 and everyone thinks I'm 16. I agree it will be nice when I'm older, but it is kind of annoying that no one take me seriously because of how young I look. At the liquor store they always look at my id like it's fake
It's not about that, guys. This tip is good for people who are ACTUALLY young and want to look more respectable, such as myself. I'm 23 but I pass as 16 and many times people peg me as stupid or childish because of how I look when, in fact, I'm a serious grown up who knows a lot.
As a voice coach I can definitely attest to that. I've trained several people specifically about their speaking voice, and the awareness of what conveys a message. If you're interested, look up how the founder of Theranos lowered her voice completely to be taken seriously as a leader, fascinating. :)

Im 19 and I’m a petite girl. People usually think I’m around 13 cause I look really young especially on my face. People always underestimate me and act like I’m weak so thank you very much for this video!
Same but I'm 21. They think I'm 13 🤦
23 and I can pass as a 15 yr old
Same I’m 17 and I look like 12 yrs old 😭
Same 🤧 due to my small face 😂
OMG, I found my tribe! No one takes me seriously! Yesterday someone said that I was "tooooooo young" to red lipstick 🙄, I"ll be 28 in 6 days. Also, 16 year old boys flirting with me is the worst!
omg i feel you! i'm soon 17 and have these 9-12 year old boys around me looking at me and falling in love.... i notice so many boys having a crush on me and it's so annoying because the boys my age think i'm 13 ughhh
omg feel you!!
Whenever I go to the mall the only people I notice check me out are high school kids 🙃 like noooo please don't look my way, I'm at least 8 years older than them.
This is my life... So sad :(
Hahaha same I m 27🤣🤣🤣 and these kids come and flirt with me!!
This is my favourite comment section ever. This makes me feel I am not alone.
Me too! I'm just scrolling and scrolling and so happy to find I'm not the only one with this problem!
So true!
Same. I am so short but i also have such a young looking face this makes it hard to be taken seriously or get a job. Im almost 20 but i look 14, most people say i look 13 or 14.
Sis me also only 5 ft.🙂❤️

“Impress your 5 y o self and your 85 y o self. Those are the only people who count” - this is the quote I needed to be hearing throughout my whole life
Exactly.
woww
Ok guys can you stop saying “I want to look younger “ in the comments? This is for girls that want to look older .... I have plenty of girl friends that are short and petite, and they try to look more mature and older, people don’t take them seriously.
kadacho that’s exactly why I’m here haha
Those comments are so annoying! Not every video is made for you, ok; we don’t care if you like looking young
Drizzy Roses same
@@laurenlestrange7417 exactly people think every video should be for them
Drizzy Roses literally me people at work never take me serious
For me, it's not only my career. I find it hard meeting a potential partner, as at first sight they automatically categorize me as 'too young'
Thank u!!!! Sameee
This has been my experience in HS, guys my age probably didn't see me as a potential partner because I looked quite younger than my actual age and was also awkward/shy. The situation has changed now, but people still carry on making jokes about how my younger friends look more "adult" than I do. 🙄
I'm quite a late-bloomer in all areas of "adult life", I don't know if it's due to me looking younger than my age, but I definitely think it's correlated and has shaped my experience of the world in some ways
Looking young is a curse when you are dating someone older..people stare at us like he has kidnapped me and I am looking for my mum
Oh no...
so Lucky I am my boyfriend is not that tall so that People dont believe he kidnapped me 😅
i feel you
Same!!
Once i went to a date with guy my age, and were mistaken for a divorced daddy and his teenage daughter. 🙈🤣
That guy’s face was priceless.
EXACTLY!!
YES! I wish I could like this 1K times on my own. You said it perfectly.
This!!!!
My thing is when people say, "you're so cute" I understand they mean well and that they don't mean to be condescending but it's the fact that when you're "cute" you are automatically simply lesser in a way. You aren't really taken seriously... I just politely smile and say thank you though...
One time a dude told me, “you’re not a pretty girl, you’re a cute girl”. And I’m still trying to figure out what it means (‘:
Jenna Leanne It just means that he is rude and it has nothing to do with you. You are gorgeous!
trueeeeeeee
That’s the way I feel! I’m so relieved to have found someone who understands me because I thought I was going through this alone.
Alice Oh totally agree with you, very often people ask me my age at work I’m 20 but many think that I’m 13/15 which upsets me a lot...
Thank you!! You literally took the words out of my mouth.
I just had a discussion with a friend about this! "I want to look youthful not young" is what I told her!

For me its not the fact that I am petite, its that I still got that babyface even with makeup on :(

@Loepsie I love your channel and all your vintage inspired looks!
Sara Richiedei that must suck
... and they follow up with "You'll love it when you're older". That never makes it better. :)

It’s hard to look older but I’m definitely going to apply your tips.
At least they don’t think you’re a high schooler, like me 😔
Same!

Omg, we are cursed.
I’m 19 and when I went to a restaurant with my family and little cousins I was given the same kids snack plate as the 3 and 8 year old- pita bread with grapes cut in HALF.
so you’re still young... get used to it.

Honestly, I was curious what kind of people (especially women) would want to look older. Now I understand :)
Sabrina well I hope you got your answer
2manynegativewaves that’s honestly just rude. Don’t be proud of yourself for commenting that.

Same situation. 😢 hope we overcome this.
Same! I used to have long natural wavy hair and although people love it, i decided to cut it off for a change. Now i have. Poxie hair and people say I look more mature but fresh.
I had waist length hair and cut it to my shoulders hoping I'd look more mature then someone said "I think she looks younger with short hair" 😩.
Noooo don't do it! Long hair is gorgeous on us!
It will be when I’m over 35 but not right now (for me)
me = petite + babyface.
90% of the time, I kind of like this combo.
But today I am turned down for a job as I look way too young...
You don't want to be in a company who don't hire based on merit so consider it a good thing!
I've experienced this twice 🙃
But if they hired you hadn't they seen your cv and experience etc? Why would they then hire a young college aged girl to supervise

Me too! I’m 22 and 4’11 people always think I’m a child 😭
@@NA-dn2yk I studied really hard haha! :)
@@cynthiaa6537 me 2😭😭
Thank you so much for this video!! The way you described how you feel when someone tells you that you look younger is exactly how I feel. It is nice to know that you are not alone.
When people say, "You'll be happy when you're older!" I just think, no, that's not how it works. I'll just look like a 12 year old with wrinkles.
EXACTLY
You've just given the perfect answer for the next time someone tells me that! 😄
I’m 31 and people always think I’m no older than 22, but I don’t hate that. these tips are perfect for when I want to look “classy”, thank you!
Same boat as you!!!!
thank you for this.
Thanks so much, Ally ❤️
It would be awesome to see examples of interview outfits for petites if you are trying to look more mature and professional! Maybe another video idea. Love your videos so much 💜
Yes second that
I'm waiting for thisss! 😘
Check out corporette they usually have great articles and clothing suggestions
I’m 19 and everyone tells me I look 12. No matter where I go I get the same response or people asking for my age😩
Same :(
Same here and am tired😪😪
Am 27 now but look like 17 + baby faced😪😪
I’m 20 and this happens. It’s very frustrating.😣
@@Lilly03664 21 & told I look 15-18. Plus I’m short and thin too 4’11, 99lbs
A teen at work recently said I "dress like an old lady" and "seem like I've been in this work for a while" which, although he doesn't know it, is the biggest complement from a teenage boy 😆
Besides that, I worked on emotional maturity and speaking more fluidly. I found people to look up to and model after, who I meet and think "wow they are so well spoken!" It has made a huge difference.
Finally, a video I needed. No one takes me seriously because not only am I petite, I have a baby face.
I'm 25 but I look like 17 😭
Whenever I ride a bus, sometimes I am given a student discount 😂
That's great! You don't have to cry on that. Take advantage of it
yeah there are pros to looking younger ive gotten so much free stuff hahahah
Ahaha that's a win
Well if they insist 😂
I have a nearly pathological fear of looking old even though I’m 26, but these are still very sensible tips if you need to be taken seriously in a given context. It’s my first day as a teacher today and I’m definitely scared of being mistaken for a student so I’ll take all the tips you can give me! X 😊
Omg thank you for bringing this up!! I have struggled with this for a long time and although I’m still young, it’s one of my biggest pet peeves when people underestimate me for my age. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️
Yup, you nailed it! I have an office job interview in 2 days and I’m worried they’ll think I’m too young because I’m CONSTANTLY told I look 12
I love that you didn't involve anything that has to do with make up. I find this really inspiring and encouraging, thank you so much!
I’ve been waiting like 5 years for this type of content 😭. Thank you so much! 💖
Much love, Gaby! 💛
Ugh the struggle of being perceived as child-like rather than womanly sucks 😭
It feels like sneakers, oversized t-shirts & cute hairstyles, etc are things I have to miss out on because as soon as I try em, I personally feel less like a mature woman. The insecurity that it can come with, especially if you happen to be petite & slim 😔 It's easy to stop feeling as feminine or womanly as others seem to look.
Thank you, I work in healthcare and everyone assumes I'm a high school volunteer even though I turn 30 in a couple months !
Same! It gets so annoying!
Im 36 and people think i'm 23, i don't want to look older. This is a gift.
I agree with you, I’m 29 and everyone thinks I’m 19-20! I feel blessed!
I agree wholeheartedly!
Idk anyone who wants to look older when they're 30+ tbh 😂
Sometimes I'm so unmotivated to go out because I feel like I'm just gonna get roasted...
I never thought about my high pitch voice making me sound less confident! But it makes complete sense!
As a voice coach I can definitely attest to that. I've trained several people specifically about their speaking voice, and the awareness of what conveys a message. If you're interested, look up how the founder of Theranos lowered her voice completely to be taken seriously as a leader, fascinating. :)
Vilija Leitanaite thank you, I look forward to reading about that. :)
