@@fastpony8127 Let me make it more frustrating! In 1988 Miami took Eric Kumerow in the 1st round who played in a reserve role for 3 seasons before retiring. They could have taken Thurman Thomas instead, who would have simultaneously fit in perfectly with Miami's big play offense and removed Buffalo's biggest weapon. Want another? In '87, Miami could have taken Bo Jackson (who reentered the draft after refusing to play for the Bucs in '86). They didn't have to use a first rounder to get him (which they wasted). They didn't even have to use a 6th rounder to get him. Bo went in the 7th round one pick after Miami chose another RB, Tom Brown, who played a few games at FB in '89.
Man, Duper 85, Clayton 83, and Moore 89 All deserve a lot of credit too. Those guys were quick, fast, and had great hands. Amazing combination with Marino's quick release.
Sorry Brady fans, Brees fans, Montana fans, Elway fans, Manning fans, Unitas fans, Favre fans...Marino is the greatest QB of all time. The things he was doing throwing the ball were far ahead of all his peers. Not even a comparison between him and his peers. He changed the game of football. And, thanks to him, the NFL figured out that people like the passing game, so they began changing the rules to favor the passing game. There's a reason why Dolphin Monday night games are some of the highest rated. Keep in mind. He did it in a time where the rules didn't favor the passing game. It was at the end of his career, and after his career, that those rules started to drastically change. Yes, no superbowls, but teams win superbowls. Ask, Mark Rypien, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Flacco, Plunkett... These are just some of the average QBs that have Super Bowl wins. These qbs had great teams. None of Marino's teams were Superbowl caliber teams. Bottom line.
This notion that Dan’s teams were in anyway inferior or not good enough to win is complete delusion. He was drafted to the best situation out of any of the 3 HOFers that yr. His team had literally won the AFC only to lose in the SB the yr before. The franchise hadn’t had a losing season in some 10yrs leading up to drafting Marino. They also had a HOF coach who many consider the greatest coach of all time winning 2SBs w/o Marino and being the coach of the only perfect season in NFL history. Gettin drafted to that franchise contributed to his greatness. Marino was great no doubt. Putting up modern QB numbers in the 80s, but the league didn’t adapt to his play bc he never showed that his style could win it all. He just couldn’t get that final win. It’s ok. Kelley lost 4 of em never to win one. Elway got 2 late once he became a game manager relying on the run game. Defense and the run game still dominated the league for yrs to come. So going back and rewriting history to say Dans teams weren’t good enough when he was drafted to the best franchise under the best coach w/ a roster that made the SB the yr before really makes no sense. Ppl act like Marino didn’t lead the league in picks and threw more than 20 like 4x when throwing even 20 one time was practically unheard of. That gets you benched in today’s NFL and usually got you benched in his eras NFL.
@@jorgegaytan3012 I'm sure Dan Marino would have loved to have a complete team as well. Like jeez it's not a shot on the precious 85 Bears it's just saying how good Marino was.

Marino with quick passes and that lightning quick release beat the Bears blitzing 46 d that night. It was actually the beginning of the end for the 46 as teams learned how to take it on. Not everyone had a Marino though!
Nobody had even heard of them until he arrived in 83. When the mid-game highlights would come in from Dolphin games, and you knew it was probably Marino throwing a TD, the question was always, "Was it Clayton or Duper?"
Its the equivalent of Michael Jordan putting up 37 Ppg and shooting 51% from the field in 1987 what Marino did in 1984 putting up 48 touchdowns and 5,000+ yards....
@JaneFonda1942 agreed. Those guys had defenses. Pro bowlers and all pros on the other side of the football at that. And those guys were only successful with one head coach. And they're not going into the Hall of Fame. The guys in this comment section really don't have a clue do they?

And yes, Tom Brady's best SB performance ever was against the Eagles which was a loss. 500 yards, 3 TDs and a QBR of about 90. In comparison Brady had 200 yards and a QBR of 82 against the Chiefs. @@XBC3-4GOTY Dan is the goat of passing, if he played with a team that had a great defense and a thousand yard rusher, he would have had the rings too, super bowels are won by great teams, not by a team with one great player, Dick Butkus, Barry Sanders, and Dan Marino don't stop being the best ever at what they do, just because the teams they were on sucked. When Dan lost a game 45-47, that's not because he wasn't great, he just never had a defense to go with his ability to put up points and with no running game, couldn't run out the clock with a lead, he would often score in 5 plays and then that crappy tired defense was back out there giving up the game. If Dan played with the rules they have had the last 20 years, he would still hold all the records, it's a different game now. Fans wanted to see more of the wide open passing, so they changed several rules to make it a pass happy league in a game that used to be won mostly with strong running and defense and some passing but nothing like what dan did and had to do to win. Greatest QB of all time. Some might think otherwise because obviously he didn’t win the big one but I don’t count rings in football like I do basketball because a lot has to go right for the QB & team to win a super bowl. NBA one player can take over an entire game & win it for you. Marino changed the game with his quick release & how defenders attacked QBs. Go back & watch the show he put on against the 85 bears he was just one of a kind.
Not really the coaching and scheme have been the best Brady on another team would not have nearly so any rings. He'd still have a few he's that good but not Marino. Put Marino on the pats he'd have ten Rings
@Legend__ 21 I get that, and I'm not downplaying Brady being amazing he's a legend period. I'm just saying Marino was handicapped by so many things that Brady wasn't.. Brady has had much much more talent and a scheme head coach combo to boot, let alone the rules that protect the QB.etc. I Mean I like Brady, but if I had a new franchise team to start, my first pick would be QB, and I'd rather have Marino to build around
His down field vision is unmatched. His ability to deliver the ball into coverage is unmatched. When he threw to a receiver, he’d already looked off at least once.
I would think these so called abilities then would have been more than enough to have an overall passer rating better than 77 in the 18 games that mattered the most in his career. 10 postseasons, and only 1 with a passer rating over 100 and only 3 with a passer rating over 80. Where did all these magical skills go during those 18 games when it mattered most?
So many people today dis this guy because they are so wrapped up in stats and superbowls and don't really understand the game. What they don't realize is that when Marino retired he owned practically every record in the book. He didn't just have the quickest release, He was ungodly the way he tossed the ball into places very very few can even dream of.. Also a Master come back player, tough as nails. His vision I don't think anyone has matched till this day.
Bear fan here. IMHO, Marino is the best quarterback I've seen. Loved watching him play and he played in an era when it was harder to accrue stats than today.
Marino is like a madden create a player qb. Almost perfect. Can't believe that people decide who the best individual player on the basis of number of championships or super bowls 🙄
There is a not inconsiderable number of people out there who still consider Dan Marino to be the best QB of all time. Over Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Terry Bradshaw and John Elway. There is something legendary about his life, his ability and his style that has led to his deification. He has something grander than almost anyone in modern NFL history. And I am one of them: He is the GOAT.
Back when people recognized a QBs greatness for what they brought to the field and not based off championships. This must be the last time in history when people recognized the sport as a team sport rather than it being all QB. Marino is the most talented passer of the ball the NFL has ever seen (and potentially ever will). If he played today he'd have 50+ TDs and 5500+ yards multiple times in his career. His 84 season would be 60+ TDs and 6000+ yards if he played today in that same run first offense or 70+ TDs and 7000+ yards if he played in todays offenses.
Marino set the TD record at 48 in a era when the previous record was 37. Even though the nfl has DRASTICALLY changed in favor of the offense and passing offense in general. 35 years later and his record has only been beaten 4 times and only once by more then 2.
Danny, it was a privilege to watch you play my friend. I was 7 years old when I first saw you play and I’ve been a Dolphin’s fan ever since. In my opinion, Marino is the greatest passing QB in the history of the NFL.

@J Dolo Well that Irony as the videos that measured Release mathmeticly showed Marino as the winner. It's all good though you keep Warner I'll back Marino.
Marino was FANTASTIC. I don't care what Bradydickriders say...I'd pick Marino to be my QB 100% of the time over Brady. I'd pick Montana and Elway over Brady too! Why Shula never drafted a half way decent running back for this guy is BEYOND HEAD SHAKING! MY GOD HIS SPIRALS WERE PRETTY.. ZING!
Brees> Marino. He never won and part of greatness is overcoming all to win it, at least 1 time. Don't care about the excuses. Oh bad defenses, no help, this, that, the other thing. Get it done, period. He had so many fewer great seasons than other guys it's silly. His stats weren't that good. WHAT?! You heard me. Outside of those couple insane seasons he was mediocre. Go look, it's not that impressive, not in Brees league or Favre. He played so many years it padded his stats. Favre erased Marino from the books, Peyton as well and even Brees has/will. Great talent, pure raw greatness as a talent. But a large part of a GOAT legacy is the intangible clutch, will to win and guts. Get it done, don't make excuses. To me Marino is strictly behind Brees and probably behind even Big Ben on any list. Well outside the top 10, around top 12ish.
@@dametime128 When Marino left the game, not only did he have all the passing records.... but he had the most wins, most 4th qtr comebacks and damn near all the postseason records, as well. His career is the one anomaly where the lack of a Super Bowl means absolutely nothing. Mount Olympus!
@@dametime128 You have to care about a defense or else there is not point to discuss. A QB does not motivate a defense. He does however motivate his O line. Dan ran a very productive offensive line. Peyton and Brees? Try doing it then when the receiver had no rule protections and knew they were going to get killed if they caught deep balls. Of course they should beat those records. Do it in Dan's time. Oh right, no one had before Dan.
Imagine what his stats would be if he played when you couldn't even lightly brush against a QB like now. If Belichick had had him in his prime, New England would be 9-0 in Super Bowls.
@panchiro f Rodgers is great but Marino could throw the ball exactly where he wanted to as perfect as possible I mean Ball just go right in the hands of whoever he was trying to get the ball to...
panchiro f Marino changed the game, he did something at a time when it wasn’t getting done. The term “it’s a passing league” was made possible because of Marino. Rodgers sat 3 years behind Farve, Rodgers first full season, (4th) season 16 games started 28td, 13int. RODGERS ONLY HAD 1td TOTAL IN 3 SEASONS DESPITE THROWING THE BALL 59 TIMES!!! Marino sat 7 games, then started last 9 games as a rookie, (1st) season 20td, 6int. Then shattered the record books in his FIRST FULL season with 48td, 5k yards, a record that lasted around 25 years. That’s something Rodgers never did or will never do, Hell Rodgers never even had a 48td season or never even thrown for 5k🤦🏽♂️GTFOH. Marino did this his 2nd year, FIRST FULL SEASON IN THE NFL🤔. Then nowadays the QB is protected, and the corners get flagged for touching the WR. Marino didn’t have such luxuries, Marino did much more in a tougher era Marino was a beast as an individual player, never had a great defense or a good running game, teams knew he was throwing and still couldn’t stop him. J Dolo Not heartbreaking or exciting. Heartbreaking AND exciting.
@@fastpony8127 Yeah its a shame that as he was retiring and in his final year/two we finally got a great Defense. All those years he played with trash on the other side of the ball. If the zach thomas/JT/madison/surtain D came a few years earlier he'd easily have a superbowl or 3.

No.... Top 10. For sure.

@J Dolo Greatest show on turf... and yet still didn't break Marinos passing yards/completions/or TDs LMAO. Foh
@J Dolo "He didn't have that long career as him" Which doesn't matter because I'm talking about single season LMAO. Rodgers???
@J Dolo I'm not saying he wasn't awesome but videos timing Release show clearly Marino taking top spot by a mile, Bret farve I believe was number two that's all saying
@J Dolo Well that Irony as the videos that measured Release mathmeticly showed Marino as the winner. It's all good though you keep Warner I'll back Marino.
His footwork was ballet.
He probably has more air yards than any QB ever
Brees and Marino would have way more rings then Brady if they played for bill belichick
@@dametime128 When Marino left the game, not only did he have all the passing records.... but he had the most wins, most 4th qtr comebacks and damn near all the postseason records, as well. He was considered one of the most-clutch QB's ever, if not the most. What can you do when the offense was dropping 30-45 pts at a whim without a defense to match? His career is the one anomaly where the lack of a Super Bowl means absolutely nothing. Mount Olympus!
@@dametime128 You have to care about a defense or else there is not point to discuss. A QB does not motivate a defense. He does however motivate his O line. Dan ran a very productive offensive line.
Peyton and Brees? Try doing it then when the receiver had no rule protections and knew they were going to get killed if they caught deep balls. Of course they should beat those records. Do it in Dan's time. Oh right, no one had before Dan.
@@maddog980 Or if Brady played for the Bengals.
10:54 the original no look pass.
@Maher Justice Mahomes is on a different spectrum
Imagine what his stats would be if he played when you couldn't even lightly brush against a QB like now. If Belichick had had him in his prime, New England would be 9-0 in Super Bowls.
The greatest QB of all time and its not close
dan "imma throw this down the field real quick" marino
Man I can't believe my Steelers pasted on him, Steelers would've been a dynasty in the 90s with that defence + Marino.
@Hector Rodriguez Wait, who was the head coach of the only Perfect Season again?
@Hector Rodriguez Your answer doesn't fit his comment.🤔🤔🤣😂
He went to Pitt, prob would've loved to play for his hometown team.
Steelers Nation here. Probably would have changed the narrative in the 96 Superbowl against the Cowboys.
Blame Terry. Terry talks about it. Said he still had juice when he didn’t and the Steelers passed on him. The rest is history
That's my QB Dan The Man Phins up🐬🌴
I knew I would see you here. Do you think we have our new Dan Marino?
@panchiro f Marino is far better than Rodgers
@@chrisdown4637 I really hope so Chris let wait till preseason and then we can have a better idea of what if we do or we don't🙂
Marino didn’t have such luxuries, Marino did much more in a tougher era
Marino was a beast as an individual player, never had a great defense or a good running game, teams knew he was throwing and still couldn’t stop him. That’s great fool!!
Marino= Trendsetter, Game changer
Rodgers= HOLD THIS L
8 minutes in: Still haven't seen ONE hall of fame receiver name on a Jersey yet
Marino was too special. He might be given an exception for not winning a SB
No QB could throw a football like Dan Marino!
Except Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, and now Mahomes.
Watching marino hit those crossing routes was football art
Pound for pound The Greatest QB of all time. If I had two wishes, I’d wish for World Peace and for Marino to win a Super Bowl
William Longworth IV
Love it..
The greatest QB to never win a SB. He was amazing to see play.
Ron Artest? He won a championship.
