Nimr could've stay in the closet like Oliver, pretend like he's straight because Palestine is a homophobic country, and Roy could've leave Nimr, but he chose risking his own life for his dear love.

The movie has a "happy ending." You can believe what the rogue Israeli agent says, if you want, although I don't think even he believes it. After all, what's the point of showing Nimir safely on the yacht, if they're not going to be reunited? Notice that Roy is not under arrest. He has an Israeli passport and is free to fly off to France. Actually showing their reunion would be anticlimactic.

@@xadam2dudex I can't keep explaining the happy ending under every comment, but here it is one more time: We see Nimir safely on the yacht. The rogue agent says he'll bury them, but even he knows there's nothing he can do. They don't arrest Roy. He has a valid passport and is free to fly off to France to meet Nimir. That's the point of showing Nimir on the yacht. Showing their actual reunion in France would be redundant and anticlimactic.
@@alwaysuseless as I recall Roy is arrested and is in jail for a couple years .. I think somebody interviewed Mayer and he said that Roy joined Amir after he got out of prison but it wasn't in the script .. Roy was convicted of aiding Amir's escape

From watching just the film and responding to it as a self-contained story, the film ends differently from what happened in the real world. What we see is the rogue agent outsmarted and Roy never arrested, hence free to join Nimer in France. So the film has a happier ending than the actual events. Thanks for the reply! It's easy to see why the creators of the film, in effect, chose to fictionalize the ending and arrange it so that showing their reunion in France could be omitted, because that would have been simply anticlimactic. Relative to actual events, the film's ending is deliberately misleading, although the filmmakers might say it's simply open-ended.

Gorgeous, moving, excellent. What happens to Roy? "I'm gonna bury you" are they going to kill him? Arrest him?
I understand it as destroying his carreer as a lawyer and his life in Israel. As in "I'm going to ruin you"
a bit late, but the subtitle on my end said bury him in jail, so i guess they will find some bullshit high crimes to keep roy rotten in prison (most likely aid and abetting terrorist / treason stuff ?) - along with the threat that even his well connected father won't be able to do anything, because this has to do with "national security" issues. A bit projecting here, Nimr won't just sit still and will do something to help Roy at least get out of the country somehow (some human rights groups/political pressure maybe), I choose to believe this because otherwise I just cannot cope with this depressing end
The rogue Israeli security agent says they'll bury Roy, but they won't get the chance, because Roy will be waiting for Nimir in France. And even as he indulges in this bravado-because he's certainly not going to admit that his guys were outsmarted-he knows that Roy is right: they got their terrorist, and the case is or will be closed. Showing Roy and Nimir's reunion in France would be anticlimactic. So the film ends with Nimir safely on the yacht, and from there you just have to fill in the dots.

Next episode? Obviously, a lot of people commenting on the video want all the i's & t's dotted and crossed. I highly recommend watching the entire film.

the translation is professional but i winder who decided to translate "ani lo yachol le'abed otcha" ("I can't lose you/cannot bear the idea of losing you") to "I don't want to lose you". anyhow, whoever called the movie's end a good one is wrong. the film ends ambiguously and on a dark note. The note is, that such love cannot persist.

They will start a new life in France or somewhere in Western Europe. In terms of his business, he'll have to start over. His dad may not be able to help me much with that. We don't know how many connections he or his dad have outside of Israel.

The security agent was most likely going to do everything in his power to keep Roy under arrest as a "security threat" (what bullshit, God) and then have him tried for treason. There's no death penalty in Israel, but there's a good chance he was going to get a long prison sentence and have his life destroyed, unless he managed to flee the country somehow.
